Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a great stay in Thredbo! My booking got postponed due to Covid, but hotel management was able to push it to a later date and accommodate us right before peak season.

Location is awesome, walking distance to the village for small kids (very handy for dinner), and bus stop in front of hotel that takes to ski stations. There is also (paid) parking available on premises, very convinient to get car in and out for skiing, as we preferred to drive in and out for skiing everyday (more convinient with small kids I would say).

Room and bed were comfortable. Breakfast and the living room with kids games were the best part of the hotel.

Would highly recommend the hotel and would love to visit Thredbo again (maybe wait till restaurants sort their staff shortage issues…). Thanks Greg, Patricia and Tim for your hospitality and kindness!

We spent a week at Winterhaus Lodge and really enjoyed our stay. Matt and Jackie were great hosts, and very welcoming and lovely to chat with.
The common area at the lodge is comfortable, with bbq facilities that have the most amazing view of the mountain and village. We had a family room which was spacious and very clean with our own bathroom.
Don’t worry about the stairs to get up to the lodge - it is all part of the charm!

Julie and Greg were wonderful, genuine and warm hearted hosts, they were extremely accommodating - above and beyond! The lodge was very comfortable, tidy, cosy and clean. Showers were hot, bathrooms have been updated in recent years. The complimentary breakfast options were well catered for: yoghurt, fruit, toast, cereal options and croissants! The cosy fire and lounge area was particularly special with fantastic views. Would highly recommend.

Greg and the friendly team at Winterhaus come highly recommended!

Clean and tidy rooms, awesome daily hot breakfast to help fuel us for the day and wonderful views from the accommodation.

The local free bus helps get to and from the snow in under 5 mins and you never wait longer than 10 mins to get picked up.

Walking distance to everything you need too!

Wouldn't hesitate to come back and stay here again!

Stayed at the Winterhaus Lodge for a two nights during the "Antarctic Blob" snowstorm. Fantastic place with an European charm. Best value private accommodation on moutain. Rooms were as advertised, good heating and comfortable bed. The owner Greg was friendly and was also the chef each morning preparing breakfast, which was delicious. Floor heating in the bathrooms was real bonus. Nice common area wth a fireplace, providing a great view of the slopes to watch the Saturday night neon skiing and fireworks. Highly recommened, I would not hesitate to stay here agin.

I don't understand the bad reviews... this place is fantastic value for money, is friendly, comfortable and is in a decent location. People obviously haven't stayed elsewhere and compared it with anything else. I've stayed at the Winterhaus now for 2 years in a row (and planning this year too) during snow season and yes its not a luxury hotel BUT the price tag isn't either!

I usually head there for the better part of a week with a mate and we use the place to sleep and other than that either spend the time on the mountain or at one of the bars/restaurants around.

If you want something economical that does the job then I recommend this place. The staff are all friendly (especially the caretaker) and breakfast is pretty good. It beats staying in nearby Jindy as at least its within Thredbo village - although the walk back to the hotel can be tiring after a day out. BUT all you need to do is wait for one of the free shuttle buses - easy.

In terms of what you pay for, this place delivers. If you expect luxury then this is not the place for you.

The only unfortunate thing is that it is owned by a west coast eagle fan... that's why it loses one star..

Rooms are very small, dirty (had to clean toilet myself on arrival, had urine marks all over seat, bathroom smelt of urine). Every time we dropped anything on the floor and picked it up (we have little kids) it had hairs on it not ours!!! Bedding was terrible, sheets may have once been white, but now they are brown, had that uneasy feeling that they probably hadn't been changed from previous guests! Place was generally rundown and no pride in the place. Breakfast included was a joke, cornflakes, muesli, oranges or toast!! Terrible would never go back! could have stayed in a luxury apt in thredbo for a $100 more, that's where we'll b staying next yr

Arrived and booked into Winterhaus. Small rooms but everything that is needed.

Warm and cosy. Heated slate floors. Great comfortable bedding and breakfast thrown in.

Thredbo is hilly but easy to get to restaurants, pubs and all amenities.

A well run place, lots of fun with great views. We had a little balcony, and the common room with the open fire is magic!!

We booked this accomodation last minute and were really happy with our choice. Greg was more than helpful when it came to checking in early, cooking us bacon and poached eggs for brekky (included) not to mention cereals, pastries, fruit and yougurt etc. amongst other things. There was tea and coffee making facilities in the common area which was a really nice spot to sit and meet new people.
Yes the rooms are small but the views are amazing and include a balcony (room 6).
There are a few stairs to get up to the hotel but they really arent too bad and you get to the centre before you know it on the way down.
Ill be staying here again soon for some more mountain biking!
