Detailed Reviews
Very welcoming, friendly place. Immediately, they assisted us with the bicycle transport for our non-circuit, multi-day bike tour. The house may be relatively old, but very well maintained; the rooms generously large; we enjoyed the balcony with the panoramic view, and overlooking their terrace, the afternoon live band music added to the holiday feeling; ahh, and don't miss out on the, by far and between, largest selection of German beers.

The staff were so helpful to us. All COVID precautions adhered to which gave us confidence staying there. The room was comfortable, older decor, but it was keeping with old world charm of the lodge being the first in Thredbo.
The room was comfortable and warm and the view was absolutely amazing. The room was quiet so you dont hear your neighbours or snow groomers at night and block out curtains kept it dark.
The bathroom was small, hot water took a while to come through, but that is what old world style lodge.

First time staying at Candlelight lodge and it won't be the last! The staff were attentive, friendly and did everything to ensure our stay was perfect. The rooms had stunning views, were warm and we even had a bath in our bathroom which was an added bonus! The restaurant food was outstanding, we tried most things on the menu over the week and nothing let us down. The small bar downstairs has a warm feel to it and the perfect place to wind down at the end of the day. There aren't many places on the mountain where you can sit down to a perfectly cooked (especially the poached eggs) breakfast and look at the mountain your about to Ski all day and map out your first runs! The staff always took the time to have a chat with us and really made the stay special. If I could give 6 stars i would! Cheers

Upon arriving, there was nobody in the reception area and for the week we stayed here, we never saw anyone in reception. Our bed was very lumpy and uncomfortable, our shower curtains smelt bad and our balcony door didn't lock properly. On top of this, we requested our room to be cleaned on 3 occasions during the week by placing the hotels sign on our door, and it never was. By the end of the week we had an overflowing bin and wet towels because nobody would service our room. Also, the 'free parking' is merely 3 spots outside the hotel which were always full, requiring us to walk a fair distance to the overnight car park in the village.

My girlfriends and I stayed at Candlelight recently on a quick girls ski trip. We really couldn’t have had a better experience. Annie and her staff are amazing. Four of us shared a lovely family room, which was clean and cosy.
The daily breakfast was amazing... get the porridge, it’s fab. We dined in house on our first night and had a delicious dinner and nothing was too much trouble.
Annie looked after us when we skied after check out, taking care of our stuff and letting us use their facilities to shower and change. Generous common areas in the bar and dining room as well as a sauna are an added bonus in this sweet little hotel.
We will definitely be back. Thanks Annie and all the lovely Candlelight staff!

We found Candlelight lodge to be perfect for our needs. We are a family of 4, with two boys aged 11 and 14. It is very centrally located only a short walk to the village, restaurants, and shops. The shuttle bus to the slopes stopped right outside the hotel, making the potentially painful task of lugging all the ski gear very manageable. The manager was friendly and accomodating, even providing a bottle of red to us when the bar had already closed. I really liked the quirky aspects and the history of the place (being one of the oldest hotels at Thredbo according to information provided via some signs outside). We didn't get the change to go to the restaurant, but it looked cosy and interesting. My only criticisms are the outdated and tired look of the place in general, however that wasn't a priority for us, so we didn't mind.

I have just rated the accommodation 5 stars so it might seem incongruous rating the restaurant as terrible. But that's what it was. A late meal became really late after waiting an hour for our meals. The duck was dry and tasteless like it had been reheated. The pie looked great but had a strange flavour. The Schnitzel was pan fried veal with home made noodles - and the noodles looked like scrambled eggs, were gluggy, luke warm and again had little flavour.
This night multiple people were complaining so something was wrong. But in the end we had a VERY EXPENSIVE meal which was DISSAPOINTING.

We have enjoyed our 2 night stay at the lodge. Cybele was lovely and very helpful, great location in the village and we didn't use the car for 2 days.
The room was nosy as we were above the bar and the room seems to be near the water system...
Breakfast is ok bit pricey for a coffee and a croissant.
Overall though we had a good weekend and we will be back if we can get a quiet room!

Lovely staff were friendly especially the manager Annie.
The food was excellent as was the entertainment on Thursday Saturday night.
Entire hotel needs update beds are hard beyond any form of comfort. The top verandah is rotting needs replacement. No daily service to the rooms at the price you should not have to make your own bed.
No onsite parking. We won't stay again.

Stayed here on a Monday and Tuesday, we were woken up late at night multiple times by (almost certainly) the staff drinking / smoking / talking on the main balcony below the room after the bar and restaurant were closed both nights.
Apart from the very nice lady serving breakfast, all staff just not interested looking after guests / seemed like a chore to speak with us. Acknowledge it’s the end of season but more like a social club for them than a hotel for us.
Rooms are dated but comfy, location is great.

There is central town parking in Thredbo with a free shuttle bus that transports visitors between ski fields, town, accommodation. The bus stop is right out the front of the lodge and super convenient.
Yes . A large deck / balcony shared with all the rooms in the same row.
