What an incredible stay we had at Blackbird this week. The amazing location looking over the beautiful valley to Byron Bay and Brunswick Heads is just the start. While the weather was mostly warm and clear we also experienced a spectacular thunderstorm. The rooms are beautifully appointed with lots of little touches - least of which are the soap, shampoo and moisturiser hand made on site by Erin. The dinners prepared by visiting chefs from fresh, local produce were perfect. I felt like I’d rested for a week after only three days due to the very chilled and relaxed vibe created by all the staff whether you were relaxing by the magnesium pool, in the infrared sauna or enjoying breakfast. We’ll definitely go back.

Blackbird is an experience! If you are looking for a place to be present, switch off your phone and enjoy quality time and the beautiful hinterland then book Blackbird ASAP. We had the pleasure of staying two nights, to be honest we didn't really know what to expect as we booked it on a whim just to escape our home town of Melbourne. Both of us work in the corporate world and don't have much of an appreciation for nature and slowing down, upon arriving at Blackbird it literally took our breath away. We spent hours by the pool, using the sauna and switching off from the busy world... On our first night we drove into Byron for dinner and on our second night we opted for the private chef at Blackbird (highly recommend) - I will say book your dinners in before you arrive, as the main town is limited and if you are staying over a weekend it's best to have dinner reservations locked in. Speak to the team at Blackbird and they are happy to provide recommendations. Would I stay again, YES in a heartbeat for two or three days at a time. Regardless of the time of year or weather, this space is just magical. Also what we didn't realise was the breakfast provided is a sit down meal at a communal table for all guests, again what an experience, to have six people sitting around sharing a meal, no phones and everyone connecting is remarkable in this day and age. Stella time, fabulous and knowledgeable staff, book a trip as soon as you can. If you have time also check out the Mulla Farmers' Market.

My girlfriend and I, along with our husbands celebrated our 50th Birthday at the amazing location Blackbird in the Byron Hinterland. Our celebratory trip to Tasmania had been cancelled due to the Corona Virus and we stumbled on Blackbird's website. It was our lucky day! We couldn't have asked for better accommodation to stay for two nights away, relishing a bit of escapism and were so grateful for the wonderful hospitality of James and the Blackbird team. A drink on arrival, followed by a swim in the Magnesium pool was the perfect remedy to unwind from the craziness and enjoy the breathtaking scenery before us. The Pavilions were beautifully designed and appointed with everything we needed. Not forgetting a beautiful bottle of wine and a cheese board waiting for us to devour. The beds were very comfortable and breakfast was delicious. We gratefully decided to eat in both nights for dinner and the meals cooked by Alex and Emily surpassed our expectations. Food to die for!! We will be a back!!

Recently spent nine days at the stunning Blackbird. What an experience and what a beautiful place this is. Away from the hustle and bustle of Byron but close enough to still drop down the hill and drive there. Although Blackbird is so wonderful that you really do not want to leave. The design of the pavilions is very special all with an amazing vista and it is great to see how it blends and compliments the environment - just what great design should do! The hospitality from James, Victoria and the team was first class and they were very knowledgeable about what to do and visit during our stay. If Alex and Emily (ex MKR) are cooking whilst you are there make sure to avail yourself - great food and great hosts. We will definitely be returning.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at Blackbird. The location up in the Byron Shire hinterland is phenomenal. And while we were struck by a lot of rain during our visit, the views and location remained breathtaking - you can see right out to the Byron lighthouse and beyond. The architecture of the place is amazing and there are only 5 individual standalone rooms or Pavilions. So it is a quiet intimate retreat.
The staff were great and super friendly and welcoming. The chefs and food also excellent.
Beautiful spot anytime of the year, highly recommend.

My husband and I stayed 2 nights at Blackbird on the way home to the South Coast from our wedding on Fraser Island. It the last 2 nights of our 3weeks away and it was definitely a perfect magical way to end our trip.
Victoria met us upon arrival and was such a lovely welcoming hostess. We went to the main pavilion where we were offered a complimentary glass of champagne and got a feel for the property… the view over the Byron Hinterland was to die for 💙
Our pavilion was very spacious and luxurious. It was light and open with again the most amazing views. There was a platter for us there when we arrived. It felt like we were tucked away in a little piece of paradise!
The included breakfast cooked by the on-site chef was delicious and one of the best breakfasts of our time away.
We we’re somehow lucky enough to be the only ones staying at the property the first night so we got the main pavilion, with the outdoor fire place all ourselves to enjoy the most amazing sunset. We also made the most of using the magnesium pool and Sauna (at no extra charge), we left feeling incredibly relaxing and refreshed. This was the most amazing stay we were definitely left in awe of this incredible property!

From the moment you arrive until the moment you leave, the staff/owners at Blackbird make you feel at home. Whether it’s the easy casual check in or delicious dinner options, to the finishing touches in your room like scented candles, binoculars & rainforest shower, you will feel so looked after. The views are ridiculous. Just RIDICULOUS! Ridiculously beautiful. It was cloudy for most of our stay but still so magical.
Short drive to gorgeous Mullumbimby but otherwise perfectly secluded, it’s a great place to stay & reflect on life.

We spent 2 nights here in July and it was truly gorgeous - we should have stayed a week! Everything has been well thought out and James was delightful and accommodating. We had clear nights so we could watch the evening sky trying to identify constellations.... in the morning we could watch from our beds as the dawn breaks and the sun slowly rises. It was majestic. We spent the morning in the hustle and bustle of Bryon Bay and the afternoon watching the world from our pavilion on the hilltop. Mullumbimby is such a wonderful town and popping down for a coffee etc was very easy. The surrounding area is beautiful however Byron Bay was busy so we loved being able to return to our majestic cosy refuge on the hill. Thank you James - we absolutely loved our stay!

It was the perfect place for my girlfriend and I just to unwind and spend time whilst enjoying the stunning views of Bryon Bay and it’s surroundings. The rustic recycled look of the pavilions and the artful decor added to the charm and luxurious feel of the place. Vicki was warm and welcoming and we enjoyed the fresh, nutritious and delicious meals by her and her team. The tranquil ambiance of Blackbird and the beauty of nature around it made our stay so blissfully relaxing and we felt so refreshed although we were only there for 2 days.

From the moment we drove up the dirt road and through the tall bamboo we had already started to shed the worries on our shoulders and relaxation had started to set in. We were warmly greeted by Victoria who walked us through the property while we enjoyed some bubbles. We were gobsmacked by the beauty of the property and the vision James had to create such a stunning retreat. The eye to detail in the pavilion is on point. Everything I could have needed was waiting for me. Some things I didn't realise I would need but they were there and I used them We were fortunate to meet two other couples staying the same nights as us. We had a few drinks with them by the fire at sunset and enjoyed dinner along with them in the communal area. Joining of everyone at the big table was lovely, just with friends we hadn't met until we arrived. We were at this point HOME. We woke for the magnificent sunrise, a quick dip into the magnesium pool and followed by a yummy breakfast made by James. Once again all the couples came together to enjoy a meal. The Mullumbimby region is wonderful to explore, we spent the days sourcing good fresh food and enjoying the fresh country air. James organised an amazing massage for us in our pavilion just to help us unwind even more. We didn't want to leave, but reality was calling. We will be back and will be back soon to enjoy our new favourite place within driving distance from home.
