Pinetrees was fabulous!!
Too much food!! Great helpful friendly staff, delicious food and given the restrictions eating on our deck was hardly a chore. We loved the bbq lunch at various beach spots dotted around the island. They were healthy and so so yummy and attention to detail was so welcomed. Special mention for the homemade hummus, olives and delish cold cuts and breads then veggies and salad with meat and fish for the bbq. Dinners were really yum. Cheese platters were so coveted too.
Pinetrees is understated and simple in a fab location and staffed by friendly people. We will definitely be back!
5 stars all the way.......

We had 5 nights at Pinetrees in March 2021. This was our first visit to Lord Howe Island. The resort is located opposite the beach, a 5 minute bike ride or 15-20 minute flat walk into town. The service is amazing, the staff are so friendly and very proud to be working at Pinetrees. They go out of their way to make sure you enjoy yourselves, allowing time to chat with their guests about their daily adventures.
The food is AMAZING. The selection is varied, its defiantly fine dining at its best in a casual atmosphere. They offered an excellent selection of wine at very reasonable prices as are their cocktails.
The other thing that impressed us was our Pinetress were taking steps to be carbon neutral, it is a very eco friendly resort.
Breakfast is served to your room which is great as you can sit in your robe (which is provided) on you verandah and eat at your leisure.
We loved the packed lunches which they include and the best part is they will drop off a picnic hamper wherever you choose to eat your lunch, Nothing is missed, tablecloths, utensils, condiments, fresh fruit and sweet treats to finish off with.
The rooms are quite small (but there is too much to see and do outside) so that wasn't an issues and we actually spent most of the time on our verandah watching the birds and wildlife go by.
We were initially concerned there was no WIFI but in actual fact for a few days it was nice to escape.
We would highly recommend a stay at Pinetress and we hope to visit again soon.

Lord Howe is like a secret undiscovered paradise. I almost hesitate to review it so the secret doesn't get out. Amazing beaches, fantastic snorkeling, and some tough hiking for those who want to earn the amazing food at Pinetrees. My husband and I did the "seven peaks walk" which meant hiking every day Monday-Friday. We always made it back for tea at 4 and afterwards we enjoyed sitting out at the boat house pavilion having a cocktail as we waited for dinner. The food here is first class with a lot of variety and always fresh. The rooms are kept immaculately clean. The lodge is very sustainable with virtually no plastic to be seen, small compost bins in the room for tea bags and coffee. I enjoyed eating with all the other 7 peaks walkers so that by the end of the week we were like family. Everyone eats at the same time each day so you do get to know many people, at least by sight, and everyone is so friendly and relaxed. The wait staff is also wonderful. We did not miss our phones or wifi at all! Can't say enough about this place! I just wish we did not live on the other side of the world (USA) or we would be back every year like many of the other guests.

We love going to Lord Howe Island as it is so beautiful with such varied scenery and so many things to see and do. The highlight however, of Lord Howe is staying at Pine Trees Lodge. Our room “Under the Pines” was clean simple but so comfortable and cool. The meals are absolutely delicious and so varied and the menu is all decided, the food bought and afterwards, all cleaned up for you. A real treat!!
The extra wonderful thing about Pine Trees is the staff who will do anything for you and always have time to stop and have a chat.

Fifty years ago, my wife and I had our honeymoon at Pinetrees Lodge on Lord Howe Island. It was a very special holiday destination then so it was an easy decision for us to celebrate our 50th anniversary at the same Lodge on the same Island.

We were overjoyed that the Island is still the unspoilt paradise that we experienced on our first visit (yes, they now use planes which land on the island as opposed to the Sandringham seaplanes which landed on the lagoon).

What we didn't anticipate were the significant improvements, innovations and services offered by the 6th generation owners of Pinetrees Lodge (including the Lodge being the first place in Australia to be carbon neutral).

We stayed in a Sallywood suite which was extremely comfortable and roomy for the two of us.

All meals were delicious with an excellent choice catering for all tastes and dietary requirements. The gourmet picnic or BBQ lunches were delicious and provided tremendous flexibility to fit in with the planned daily activities (bush walking, snorkelling, kayaking, island exploring etc). The drop- off and pick-up of the BBQ Esky from the specified location is a fantastic service.

Of course we also appreciated being able to have a hot, healthy lunch (as well as a delicious afternoon tea) at the Lodge when desired. We also enjoyed the boat house and its facilities belonging to the Lodge which is a great place to view the sunset.

The friendliness and service of the staff was second to none, and contributed to the holiday experience being very enjoyable and very unique.

Pinetrees Lodge on LHI is a 5 Stars + + holiday.

This was our second time to Pine Trees and we were disappointed this trip as compared to the last time in 2018. The meals were no where as varied or at the previous standards. For example, there was only one entree and dessert on the evening menu and no tea / coffee or after dinner slices offered. The lunches were the same everyday and only fruit offered each day were green apples (ones I would cook with). We requested different fruit options but told there wasn’t any. We ended up buying red apples, bananas and oranges at the shops which seemed ridiculous when you consider the cost of Pine Trees. We were told we had to eat breakfast at our rooms and preorder the day before (like in a hospital). I don’t understand why we could eat at the main area for dinner but not for breakfast. It made planning our day difficult not being with our friends at breakfast time (remembering we had to preorder all breakfast / lunches for the next day each morning). Last comment...the afternoon teas weren’t offered and these were fabulous last time. Many guests were very disappointed by this.

The staff are lovely and did their best during our stay to make it a nice visit. Dennis is amazing and absolutely brilliant at helping you plan your day and just generally making your stay memorable.

I understand the allure of no wifi but I would recommend Pine Trees have the option for wifi at the library / bar area at least as I found it difficult trying to work which I had to each day and all the tour operators wanted us to registered online.

Lord Howe Island is absolutely glorious and I enjoyed the stay at Pine Trees, I was just disappointed with the comparison to our last visit.

Hello Ange, we're really sorry your recent visit had fewer meal options and a lower level of service than your first visit. Our operations were guided by NSW Health Orders and we were absolutely determined to keep our guests and staff safe from COVID-19. Yes, there were weird inconsistencies in what the NSW Health Orders allowed us to do, but thankfully, the vast majority of guests appreciated our focus on safety and had a lovely Lord Howe holiday. The good news is, for our new season starting November 2021, fully vaccinated guests will enjoy the 'normal' (i.e. amazing) Pinetrees experience that you had on your first visit.

After hearing recommendations from many friends over many years, we finally made it to Lord Howe Island and Pinetrees Lodge. We were the first guests at Pinetrees after the extended lockdown of the island and we certainly felt welcome.
We have travelled extensively over the past 15 years, sometimes being able to stay in some of the world’s best hotels (Explora, Patagonia)and lodges (The Rustler, Alta, Utah and Pacuare Lodge and Bosque Del Cabo in Costa Rica) and Pinetrees is definitely up there with the very best the world has to offer in terms of location, accommodation, quality of food and hospitality. We had a wonderful stay and intend returning, hopefully with our whole family.
The food is exceptional. Covid has made life very difficult for those in the hospitality business and staff at Pinetrees have gone out of their way to ensure safety of guests and follow guidelines. The quality of food and service was not compromised even though the dining room/verandah was not used. This was disappointing but we were still able to enjoy drinks at the bar and the boathouse and the barbecue lunches were an absolute highlight!
We really appreciated the daily newsletter where activities were suggested according to weather and wind direction including the best location for a barbecue. We followed the suggestions and were never disappointed.
I loved the gardens surrounding our accommodation and loved the yoga on the oval each morning at 7am. I didn’t want to waste a minute!
Thank you Pinetrees for an awesome holiday! Can’t wait to come back!

Covid has been terrible except for our holiday at pine trees lord howe island. We did not mind that the airfares could have competed with a flight to rome as we could not go to rome. And then the magnificence of a holiday less than three hours from hone was revealed.
Truly worth every cent. Pinetrees food and accomodation was amazing but the dinners were so gourmet i begged for recipes and they gave me a cookbook
The lunches were delivered to a world heritage beautiful location of our choice in an esky woth tablecloth thermos fire starters and wood bbq there to cook up a feast ( or other options)
Its a spectacular location and pinetrees is a wondrous experience
Definitely going back
Miriam

My wife and I stayed 5 nights for our honeymoon in Feb 2020. It truly exceeded the already high expectations we had.

Firstly, the staff at Pinetrees are all familiar with who you are and why you’re there - it’s not intrusive at all, it’s extremely welcoming and friendly. We were even shouted a drink by one of the staff for being on our honeymoon (not to mention the champagne bottle greeting us upon arrival).

The palm room was comfortable and had all you need. We slept extremely well, even with only a fan in Feb, we were always comfortable. They had tea and coffee amenities which were great.

Now, the food! We had fine dining every evening and often didn’t have room for the delicious cheese platter finisher :). You MUST have a BBQ whilst on the island, they drop off the food/drinks to where you’re hanging out on the day. It’s a great way to relax.

Speaking of relaxing, Pinetrees have a boatshed (with an honestly policy bar fridge) overlooking the lagoon. We saw one of the best sunsets we’ve ever experienced whilst sitting there one evening. Guests tend to mingle here which is a nice way to say hello to familiar faces, everyone was lovely.

Pinetrees had lots of activities and recommendations for visitors. Really enjoyed the real-life Masterchef experience, learning from their head chef for an hour. Staff are full of knowledge on walks, beaches etc.. we are so keen to come back and do some of what we didn’t get to!

Lord Howe is paradise and I’m not sure how any other holiday destination can match it. I’m so glad Pinetrees provided the perfect accomodation for such an idyllic location. Thanks team.

Let me start by saying that Lord Howe Island is an amazing and fantastic place. Pinetrees rooms were cozy and the whole place was clean and well kept. The staff are all friendly and do an amazing job. It's a pity the owners do not have the same attitude to customer service.

We were originally booked to go when the first Covid lockdown hit in 2020. At first the owners were not going to give other dates or refund money. It was only talk of legal action that got any result. And even that outcome (not wanting to bore everyone here with the details) was disappointing.

I understand that Covid has meant that changes have been had to be made, but when you pay for something that includes Buffet lunches, afternoon teas, canapes with drinks and one cooking class and all of that is cancelled yet the owners do not refund any money but pocket it. That is wrong. They offer "gourmet"sandwiches for your room for lunch now. Since when has a BLT sandwich and a muesli bar been gourmet? Every business in Australia has taken a hit with Covid, yet these owners are actively taking advantage of it to increase their bottom line. Ask any of the locals what they think of the owners and you will get a clear picture.

Such a shame, with a different attitude it could have been a five star review.

Hello Hot_Dots, your comments are incorrect, unfair and a bit of a cheap shot. We offered all of our guests (including you) 100% credit from the very start of COVID-19, and the vast majority have appreciated the arrangement. Yes, it's far from ideal, but last-minute COVID-19 cancellations are crappy for everyone. As we explained to you in detail on arrival, our operations during your stay were tightly controlled by NSW Health Orders specifically for Lord Howe Island, but irrespective of that, we were determined to prevent transmission of COVID-19 on Lord Howe. We're in a very remote place with limited health care facilities, and we have a responsibility - as the largest hotel on Lord Howe (and the largest ‘importer’ of people) - to keep our local community, staff and guests as safe as possible. And as for our bottom line, we can confidently assure you that our losses from COVID-19 have been dramatic. Next time, maybe you could call us on 02 6563 2177 and have a chat? It's easy and you'll be surprised by how much better you feel when we have the chance help you. We understand that COVID-19 has made some people frustrated and cranky, so hopefully once we return to normal, you'll come back to Lord Howe and have a great time. Luke & Dani, Owners

There were no mosquitoes when we were there in October. I did get flea bites from the van transfer ( with dog) from the end of Mt Gower walk back to Pinetrees.

I suggest you send them an email. They are very responsive and helpful. We did not do the Mt Gower or Lidgbird walks. You have to be extremely fit for those and they are guided walks by a local that only happen 2 days a week. As far as I recall you cna book these separately. We did other walks unguided and although some were strenuous, very enjoyable. I noticed theat the 7 peaks walk package is sold out for 2022.

Hi there, Depends on whether you book accommodation package with meals or not. We went dive week so it included 3 meals a day and sunset cocktail. There are restaurants and cafe you can also eat at. The food st pinetrees is first class. You have to have breakfast 7am- 8:30am, lunch 12:30pm-1:30pm or they pack a picnic bag for you to take with you on your activities or they drop off bbq to one of the many picnic spots on the island for you. Dinner is at sunset 7pm
