Detailed Reviews
Stayed here for a few nights with two friends and it was fine, average. Mentioned in the title nothing glamorous, but did the job. Check in was simple and easy, however we had to pay for onsite parking. At the price for accommodation, we were expecting it to be included. No wonder no cars were parked downthere. Room was ok, two bunks and a double bed upstairs. Beds not very comfortable to be honest, and had a dip in the middle. The mattress could do to be replaced or turned over. The room smelled awful and could have done with a good airing and deepclean. The shared bathrooms were average and served their purpose. Had to end up renting bath towels (yes renting), we weren't notified on booking that we needed to bring them. $2 per towel with a $20 deposit, seriously. All in all, the place was fine. I actually would stay here again, onsite amenities good especially the pool. Great for bonding and making new friends.
Thank you

Nice hostel with a good vibe and friendly staff. Close to the centre of town and beach.
Great kitchen area - well provisioned and plenty of space.
Double room was clean and modern with a kettle and hanging space and tv.
Parking is available at extra cost or you can park on surrounding streets depending on which street's time restrictions suit your needs. Staff were helpful with ideas.

The hostel is in a great location, with everything in walking distance. Hostel staff were friendly and helpful. The dorms had enough room for all of us and our luggage, with generous sized lockers available for use. The mirror in the ensuite was quite small and it would’ve been handy to have a bench to sit your belongings on in the ensuite but apart from that everything was great. Will be staying here again.

I stayed with a friend and on second night was asked to leave as they don't allow drinking or socialising of any kind after 9pm anywhere in the hostel, no talking, no tv...nothing, not in common areas or your room whether it's private or shared...phone and ask! The staff are arrogant, ignorant and plain rude. The establishment thinks they're a resort and the staff arrogantly think they run a 5 star hotel. The place is full of long time homeless hippies wandering around like they own the place, pool is grungy, no fridge space, no freezer, no clean linen offered had to ask, no parking due to people living in campers, no cutlery, no plates, no cooking pots, no cups, expensive surfboard hire, stank from floods, beds are over due for replacement and expensive laundry costs. The site pictures are very misleading . All in all a real flop of a stay, this is a shared view by many other backpackers Ive had the pleasure of meeting elsewhere outside of Byron YHA. Shame on you Byron bay staff and YHA

Dear Peter N, I was disappointed to read that you did not enjoy your stay at our beautiful property. The Team at Byron Bay YHA pride themselves on our friendly, home away from home, culture. Our House Policy outlines that alcohol consumption is not permitted around the Hostel (co-living spaces) after 9pm. The TV Room is open daily from 6:00am to midnight. We do offer parking spaces, however it is subject to availability and booking is required. This information is on your booking confirmation /Hostel website. Peter, we have restocked our modern shared Kitchen facility with new pots, cups, cutlery, mugs, plates and cooking pots in May. I have passed your comments to our Housekeeping Manager to ensure it is clean and available at all times. Unfortunately Byron Bay areas have been severely affected by floods in the past few months and the Byron Bay YHA Team have been working hard to make sure it does not affect our guests experience. Thank you again for your review and please give us a call If you wish to discuss anything further. The Team at Byron Bay YHA.

The hostel is close to the Greyhound bus station and a supermarket (I think Wollies).
Our room was basic and bare. It was clean. No hooks and only 1 shelf in the bathroom. Because the bathroom was spacious, the room space is limited.
Our room soundproofing was poor. We could hear the sound of doors being closed in the morning.

We stayed here for two nights, it suited our purpose as just a place to sleep really. Unfortunately the lifts were out of order which wasn't great with our suitcases. The hostel is in a pretty good location, not far from the main street which then leads to the beach. Our room was basic but at least felt clean (we were in a private en suite room). We didn't use the cooking facilities but the rules seemed to be quite well enforced which is encouraging. The pool looked ok but we didn't use it and the sunbeds smelled really bad.

Literally the worst experience I've ever had in a hotel or hostel, staff incredibly arrogant and entitled, told in middle of day we were being "too loud" at pool by staff member "who didn't want to be bothered", literally just a group of random guests having fun around the pool
Then communal area says beers OK until 10pm and same staff member told us to clear off at 8.45 o'clock because "she said so" and threatened to have us kicked out of hostel if we didn't leave
Staff horrible and adress you like a child

Such a nice hostel! In a really good location (2 min walk to Woolies, less than 10 mins to main beach) and very modern. Kitchen is very spacious and cleaned regularly. Rooms are a good size and also very clean. People are generally very friendly and its easy to make friends. Not a party hostel so good if you’re looking for a proper nights sleep as its very quiet after 9pm! There is some free parking but only 8 spaces so you have to be lucky. Otherwise they do offer paid parking underneath the hostel. Overall would definitely recommend if you’re visiting Byron!

A huge thanks to staff member SB who was incredibly kind when the wifi went out during my stay and he let me use his data for a work call I had to do. The staff there are super friendly and lovely the place has a chilled out vibe about it. I met great people and was lucky enough to have very fun roommates. They real care about there guests and it’s certainly not a party place which I personally loved. I will be back to stay there when I come through Byron Bay again on my travels. Thanks for a great stay!

Hi Emma. Cape Byron YHA is the hostel closest to the beach and is a real backpackers hostel - mainly share rooms and friendly atmosphere. Byron Bay YHA is currently being extended - this work will be finished any day so disruption now minimal. There will then be a range of dorm and private ensuite rooms available. Already there is a large new kitchen and communal area open.
Hi. Is the renovations work finished now? I'm planning a stay in Oct and hope to have a quiet sleep.
Hi Mango - the work is still ongoing but we do have a shiny new kitchen now open. The new extension should open around the end of the year.
If you are concerned, why not stay at the other YHA in town? Cape Byron YHA is about 200 metres down the road and might suit you better for this visit.
Enjoy!
Hi
There are a couple of private twin/double rooms at this hostel but they are really popular so make sure you book ahead. You can see them on our website!
Hi berng180
This is not a schoolies venue! A very small amount of bookings are taken and there is staff on duty that manages the communal areas. These close by 11pm and guests go out to the various venues in town.
