Pros – Good rooms with plenty of living area, comfortable bed and facilities. Staff friendly and helpful, e.g. resolved a Wifi issue quickly. Good for a few nights stay, but that is it. Location was great (a short walk to town), parking available and there was a pool and spa. Generally the staff responded to our requests with little difficulty. We had asked for a ground floor room near the back (quieter) and we did get that room.
Cons – Really not suitable for extended stays. We were booked for a week and found little effort to make it suitable for that length of time. The fridge was a small ‘bar’ fridge, held little more than daily supplies. Limited supply of linen, basic essentials only, and we were meant to wash it if it needed replacing. Notices detailing charges if we needed more soap, detergent, coffee etc or anything really, beyond a few days supply. Even pool towels were an extra charge. There didn’t seem to be a discounted rate for longer stays - if we stayed shorter stays we would have had enough each time to get by ok?
Issues – There were several issues the management may need to look at. The wall at the bed head was the same wall where the back gate slammed closed. There was a sign there saying, ‘be considerate and close the gate gently’, however very few inebriated residents bothered to read the sign at 2am – the slamming gate was a real awakening device!! Surely the management could install a something to ensure a gentle gate closure? We were also disappointed at the small size of the pool and it looked like it had not been cleaned properly during our time there – we were not keen to use it.
We also noted: There were limited reception hours, especially over the weekend.
There was no DVD player as advertised.
The sliding door from the lounge, facing the street, could not be locked or secured -an issue for potential access to the unit from the street.
We also took out the spare blanket to use on one occasion but it smelled so bad (vomit?) we immediately put it back. Not sure how often they are aired.
In conclusion – a great place to stay for a few days. However, think twice for a longer time. Can I suggest the staff look at the issues raised above.

Response from Joshua Raines, General Manager at Eco Beach Resort Byron Bay

Thank you for your thoughtful review, our response to issues raised are as follows; Eco Beach Resort are self service holiday apartments on a strictly short term letting basis. Formerly owned by Mantra the business continues to run as a self service model in accordance with the property licence. The pool and spa and all common areas are cleaned daily. Our reception hours are 9 - 4 weekdays and 10 -3 w/ends. These opening times are in response to our market with air bnb styled self check ins driving the current face of travel. Our site managers number is available for queries outside of those hours. Smart televisions have replaced dvds. Each guest is provided with a complimentary starter pack of amenities. We work very hard to maintain the property and are very proud of the effort and upgrades in progress. From time to time things happen on a property as they do in any home. As with the back gate the sign was a temporary measure whilst a custom made closure was commissioned. Along with regular deep cleans, detailed room checks are undertaken prior to each check in. If we have missed something and the issue is raised at the time we can do something about it. A new blanket is an easy fix; as is repairing a door lock but ideally we need to know about it during the guests stay and not following departure. We recommend when booking accommodation that a measure of research is taken beforehand to ensure that we are the right fit. There are some 40 images available online via our website, and many more through various booking channels and so forth that accurately demonstrate the size of the pool and overall complex. There is also detailed information on all booking channels that reflect who we are and what we offer; including room size, furnishings, amenities and hire items. We are delighted your overall stay was great and thank you again, we appreciate that you took the time to review.

We just completed our stay there day and we didn’t want to leave! This place is perfect for a small family. We requested a room on the upper level away from the street and it was allocated as requested. Room was clean and we enjoyed the fact that you’re responsible for its cleanliness etc - machines and dryers can be used at any time so you can pack light. We were able to get a slightly late checkout and nothing was too much for the staff. Pool area is relaxing and everything is within a 10 minute walk (lighthouse is about a 4km walk). We will be back for sure!

Stayed two nights in March 2020. Location good for easy walk in to Byron township. Poor location for beach access - no direct access to beach unlike many accommodation places close by. Pool and barbecue areas very small in relation to number of rooms. Room size was good. Property was clean and tidy. Bed uncomfortable. Have never been required to empty my own rubbish bins and to clean all my own dishes before checking out before. There is a fee if you do not take your own rubbish out at checkout. Servicing only every 8 days for a property at this price level is not good enough.

Thank you ever so much for your thoughtful review. Beach access is available along a side street at the back of the property. We encourage potential guests to view our photos prior to booking to make sure our intimate resort is for them. We are a small family business that recently took over from the well known hotel chain Mantra and we follow the same service model. Rates are relative to the high demand of the area and in line with similar operatives.

Stayed two nights as part of our multi location tour of Australia’s east coast. The property is well located, on the main route in from the Pacific Highway, and close to beach & main shopping/restaurant streets - only a 5-10 minutes walk depending on your pace.

The king sized bed was comfortable & the kitchenette had a kettle, toaster & microwave with crockery & cutlery for two. All was very clean; both the apartment and public areas.

Secure underground parking is available and there’s also a laundry room with two each commercial washing machines and dryers. At the time of our stay, each cost $5 per load but as commercial machines have good capacity.

Would definitely book again if we’re ever back in this part of the country.

We stayed here overnight on a road trip to Brisbane. Check-in was just after the office closed, but we received instructions via text message, allowing us to collect our key from the security safe with a code. There was plenty of undercover parking, with internal stair and lift access to our ground floor unit, which opened out on to the pool area at the rear.
The day was hot and humid, but the air conditioning was running when we arrived, giving a welcome respite as we brought our luggage in.
The unit was sparkling clean, and well equipped for an overnight stay, or for a week or more.
The location was excellent, with a short walk to the beach, and the town centre. In the evening, we walked to the ex Services Club for dinner.
The next morning, we took the opportunity to walk up to the lighthouse in the cool of the morning. It was a great 2 1/2 hour round trip, walking up through bushland and along the headland ridge top with great views to the north and south, and back by the shorter route along the beach.
After the walk, we had a late breakfast in our kitchenette equipped unit before hitting the road again.
Overall, a great location for a stopover.

I know this is a common Schoolies rort - daughter stayed here for Schoolies. Left the place spotless but money was deducted from bond for steam cleaning of a sofa and carpet that were left spotless. Complete rort and should be reported to NSW Office of Fair Trading. Do not stay here - you will get charged for cleaning that was not required.

Friendly check in, room easy to find. Undercover security parking a plus. As is lift access. Room itself (studio) was large enough. Big bed and lounge, working air con. Would have liked the lounge facing the TV though, lol. Great balcony with table and chairs overlooking small pool and spa. Was a bit too cold for me to venture in, although did see some people in. Could hear easily but no noise when sleeping. Kichenette was great, with microwave, big fridge, crockery etc. Was aware that the room was un-serviced for my 3 nights so was careful to take out garbage, clean and put away dishes. Not a big issue but a consideration if you cannot be bothered on holidays.
5 minute walk to main street. Horrendous traffic in Byron so recommend walking into town! Would recommend coming out of school holidays and on weekdays only. Many pubs/restaurants booked out and 'at capacity' due to covid regulations.
Will be back when things settle down! Recommended place.

Check in was a little odd. They were supposed to have sent us an email with the safe code from which we could get our keys and instructions but we didn't receive one!
Other than that, our apartment was excellent. It was clean and very well equipped (with a double hob as well as a microwave). It contained a comfortable bed and a good shower. In a busy/noisy town, our apartment was an an oasis of peace and quiet. It had a very nice balcony with a table and chairs which was ideal for breakfast or an evening meal. There were 2 communal washers and 2 dryers ($5 a pop each). There was secure underground parking. It was located only a few minutes stroll from the beach, shops and restaurants.

Immaculate accommodation. Spacious modern apartment, fully equipped kitchen. Large comfy bed. Access to a little gem of a pool (had the weather been better). Underground secure parking with a lift to all floors thereby avoiding humping suitcases up and down stairs.
And all within an easy reach of the town (5-10 minutes).
Can't recommend it too highly.

On arriving and obtaining the key from the safe holder (worked fine) we were met with a two page letter with a list actions we had to do on leaving the property else we would get a $35 fine! This didn't start us feeling very welcome on what we had to do.....i thought we had paid for someone to empty the bins on us leaving the property (can't remember the other items).
i think they may have had issues with other guests in the past?

The best think about the property was their guide to the local area re restaurants/bars and things to do....probably the best we have ever come across really informative - we found a great one (called light years).

Good location to town or the beach, plenty of parking and staff were friendly when available during their working hours. plenty of leaflets available in reception.

This didn't seem much of a welcoming place from the list of actions so we wouldn't stay here again....
