Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Dinner used to be great here with a splendid choice of food. It meant you could dine out for weeks on end without ever repeating anything on the menu or specials board, fresh local trout, pies, steak etc Then COVID. Restricted very limited menu still in operation without good reason. I don't dine here anymore.

Stayed in one of their B&B rooms whilst passing through on a cycling holiday. Had a meal & beer in the evening which was all very good. Staff were very pleasant & helpful. Room was basic but given the price I couldn't complain. There was a shared kitchen area which could be used to make tea / coffee etc

I'd like to thank The Royal Oak for being very helpful of our needs for this stay. Secure storage for the bikes. Refills in the morning.
Lovely place, Relaxing atmosphere, friendly staff who like a bit of banter. Food was great. Thanks again from me, Paul, Joe and Tim.

The Royal Oak is a beautiful 16th Century thatched roof pub which is located in the picturesque village of Wootton Rivers, Wiltshire.

Whether you are fortunate enough to live or planning to stay for a break in the village, or just passing through on the Kennet & Avon Canal, we strongly recommend a visit to the pub.

The Publicans and the staff are extremely friendly and we enjoyed several conversations with them during our stay in the village.

There are a couple of real ales and the Elf Sufficient was served in a beer jug pint glass, which made it taste even better.

We sat in the restaurant on Monday evening 23rd December and had a lovely meal. There was a wide choice of food on the main menu as well as on the ‘Specials’ board, which is above the cosy log fire.

We felt extremely welcome whenever we visited the pub, but especially at lunchtime on Christmas Day.

The pub also benefits from a small games area where you can play pool or darts. My wife and youngest grandson made great use of the pool table during our stay in the village.

Had really nice lunch today at Royal Oak. Simple lunch - ham (off the bone), eggs and chips £10, Huge portions, excellent value for money. The rose wine was decent and not the wine usually served up in some pubs. Polite and friendly service, all COVID procedures being followed. Will definitely go back there. Thankyou

Luckily we arrived early and were given a table, as by the end of lunch the place was really busy. The welcome was excellent and I couldn't fault my lovely roast beef with all the trimmings. We ordered cauliflower cheese as an extra and it was delicious. Crispy yorkshire, lovely gravy, good stuffing...excellent veg, I was very pleased with it. Chris had beef stroganoff and I think he wished he'd had the same as me, though he did like his meal. We had trifle and sticky ginger pudding and ice cream, to follow, 2 rounds of drinks and a cup of tea and the whole thing was £70 and worth every penny. Excellent service and a pleasant interlude to our day. The pub is gorgeous and ancient and it's a pleasure to spend time in such a convivial place.

The pub is in a beautiful village just a short walk from the Kennet and Avon canal. The pub itself is staffed by very friendly team and the food was very nice.
Sadly the bed and breakfast accommodation was not very nice despite the lovely setting. It could be amazing but it is shabby and grimy.
I'm not even sure our ensuite had been cleaned at all. there were the remains of the previous occupants shave all over the sink, the back of the loo seat was filthy and had pee splatters on it and the floor and window sill had bits all over it. hairs, cobwebs fluff. there was a thing of hand gel in the shower cubicle but no soap at the sink.
the bedroom floor was covered in white hairs and the skirtings were very grubby. there were grubby stains on the duvet (i always look inside the cover) and the bedding didnt smell like fresh bedding does.. again, window sill had lots of dirt on it and we found lots of hairs in the room.
i knew the room was small when i booked it but i didn't expect it to be shabby and dirty.

Hubby and I were on the way to Brokenhurst for camping when we saw this sign which simply said Good Food Pub. We followed the directions and found this pub. Gorgeous little village and gorgeous pub, so idyllic. The food was fantastic and the service was efficient and pleasant. We paid 43 which was for 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 alcoholic drinks so great value for money.

It beats the usual pub food and appeared to have a lot of thought going into the food, service and deliverance. Only wished we lived closer to this pub!

Dropped in last Sunday - 5 of us had the rump steak £19.99 - each cooked to our different requests and the chips (double cooked?) were fantastic.

Quaint hotel in the middle of Savernake Forrest.

Not cheap but worth the cost.

Positives: A good price. You get what you pay for. Clean room / Shared bathroom / kitchen clean.
A nice pub. Good food (evening meal roast, fab choice on menu, extensive fish choices). Very busy in the pub restaurant. Nice friendly staff.
Accommodation cheap. Good wifi. Good shower. Most rooms had their own bathroom for extra cost (not mine).
Full English breakfast in the restaurant (not bad).
Also a lounge to chill in. Large garden. Kitchen with bread, milk tea, coffee, fridge etc.

Negatives: Uncomfortable hard mattress (other guests stated very happy) in my room (5) thick duvet (was a hot night). Small room (but it's just to sleep). Funny strong disinfectant smell. You can hear everything in the next room.
My laptop worked perfectly.

A beautiful village. Canal nearby.
Could not find nothing cheaper.......
So.... Pay 40 quid here.... or 70-100 quid elsewhere.

Owner pleasant and cleaner lovely and friendly in B and B.
