Detailed Reviews
Site #29 was amazing. A short (uphill) walk-in site and secluded (only one site visible). Bath house was small, but very nice (only 1 shower, 2 toilets). Lyman Run Trail starts across the road from lower campground. The trail is lovely! A long walk or a short drive gets you to the lake and beach. Definitely recommend Lower Campground, we drove to Daggett Run, the other camping area within the park and the sites were very close.

For those who enjoy a QUIET state park- this is the place for you!
Lyman Run offers the best of "nature"- the campground has a relatively small number of sites(divided among 2 loops) that keeps it from being over crowded. There is minimal traffic and virtually no noise except the sounds of nature. The park is surrounded by mountains and the lake/beach area are very nice. The restrooms are updated & clean. The park was easily accessible- all paved roads(kind of narrow & winding in a few places, but manageable even for a novice).
We recommend sites 22,32,30 in the Lower Campground- for those with trailers.
If you are looking for a park with lots of nearby attractions/shopping/dining-you won't find it in this park or Potter County where the park is located. But for those who want a peaceful weekend enjoying the natural beauty of rural PA- this is the place for you!
Note-a main attribute of this park is the ATV trails that are accessible directly from the park-if you have ATV's- be sure to bring them.
Also recommend bringing your kayaks & fishing gear-although there are boat rentals available also.
Also nearby (5 miles up the road)is Cherry Springs State Park, which has an astronomy observation field (check out their website for more details).

I grew up in the area, but the lake needed a lot of work and the State just recently got around to cleaning up the water for swimming. Well, 15 years later, I can tell you that it is a GREAT place to get away and have affordable fun! Chip Harrison hosts a kayaking tour (free) for kayaking beginners (register on the state park's website), and you can rent boats/canoes/kayaks by the hour for affordable rates. The snack-house is REALLY affordable if you have a family and the lake is very clean and warm! I recently did the kayaking tour by myself and had so much fun that I dragged my friends from downstate to come up this past weekend and join! We had such a great time in the boats, went swimming, and all had lunch. I highly recommend families, couples, and friends to get away for a few hours and just enjoy the beauty of this location. The state park system has done a fantastic job!

I always hope to find out about the sites when reading reviews and never do so I will put my two cents here. We stayed at Lyman run in lower campground site #27. We camp with two tents and dogs. Site 27 is the largest IMO and best suited for two tents although it is pretty sloped. The lower camping area is two levels and 27 is on the lower side.
I elected to put my tent on the parking pad as seen in pic 1. In 2nd you can see the slope down to the backside of site 27 coming from the bathroom. Pic3 you can see there is a small stream? Of water that runs to the right of the site if your looking from the backside again. There’s plenty of slightly sloped ground to the left of my tent for another tent in the grass. It also says 27 is a walk in site but clearly you can tell from my picture it isn’t. It has a long driveway (my state park standards).
The other interesting options would be site 29; it is sort of up a hill but definitely more wooded. I don’t know if two tents could fit there though. I also thought 11/12 in daggett looked cool too, it’s across a little bridge.
This park seems to me to be more of a ATV hotspot than hiking. There was a lot of atvs running around and not too many hikers that I saw, and we were there on a holiday weekend.
Remaining pics are of the Lyman run vista and dam.
We did two trails; both walked to the trail from the lower campground. Lyman run on the left and rock run on the right.
Rock run is a major uphill hike but worth the view at the vista. You can drive up to the vista but if your a hiker that’s cheating haha
Lyman run trail is more level and easy but you do have to take off your boots to wade across the river. It isn’t too well marked so we missed the crossing the first time and ended up back on the road to the dam but found it on the way back (after missing it again).

When planning your arrival, take note of which side you drive in on... the western entrance has several miles of graded but unpaved road.
We arrived late in the morning for an afternoon of hiking and birdwatching. There were a few locals scattered about, reading in the sun or fishing along the shore. We walked across the dam to the western portion of the Lyman Run trail, but after a hundred feet of 10-inch-wide trail and nearly ending up in the lake a couple times we went back to try the east side. There were throngs of swallows and waxwings about keeping the bug population in check, so we left with a negligible number of bites despite our mid-summer timing.
We ended up hiking the Lyman Run/Rock Run/Wildcat loop, which is a very nice walk on well-maintained trails on a typical PA Wilds hillside. As an added bonus there's a nice overlook at about the half-way point (about 400' above the valley), and two of the three Geocaches in the park are along this loop. Just be aware that the eastern side of the Lyman Run Trail, while much wider and more well-kept than the western leg, crosses the stream at a point where it's too deep to wade without removing footwear first.
When we came back down, we saw that the park had filled up quite a bit during our hike in the woods... the swimming area was packed, there were lines at the concession, and there were several people out in boats. Apparently this is a big destination for the locals in the summer. I got more than a few funny looks walking past the "beach" while carrying a camera with a bird lens on it. :-)
Overall, Lyman Run State Park offers a nice combination of a "civilized" area with facilities and a nice system of trails that will give a nice feeling of solitude.

You should know: I did not have an opportunity to look at the other camping loop, but most of the Daggett Camping loop sites were not suited to tent camping. Sites 11 and 12, which are off the loop across a small wooden bridge, and 16, which we were lucky enough to choose, are the exceptions. The rest - pictured below - conferred next to no privacy.
Firewood is available for sale until 7pm at the snack stand by the beach.
The signs about paying on the honor system in the bathroom are not for you - as a camper, your showers are free.
Actual Review: My boyfriend and I stayed here Labor Day weekend 2018 so that we could visit Cherry Springs to see the stars. We were fortunate to get site 16, which meant that we had more privacy and woke to the sound of the small stream running past the site. The campground is well-maintained, with warm, VERY clean bathrooms. Camp staff were helpful and knowledgeable. Apparently I’m a bear, because I needed their help to open the bear-proof dumpster.
The lake and woods here are staggeringly beautiful. Truly gorgeous with a variety of hiking trails, including one with a wet crossing. We rented kayaks and had a great time with that, too.
As a bonus, the other campers were really nice. There were a lot of families there with their RVs and they’d clearly been there for quite a while.

Beautiful, very clean, spotless bath house, nice, hot showers, very quiet. Great star gazing at the dam on the lake. Nice, flat places to pitch a tent. Each space has a lantern hanger, water spigots are plentiful and electric hookup is available.Attended a class to learn how to cook over coals using an iron kettle and then ate the dinner...lot of fun. Great alternative to Cherry Springs park, which is mostly primitive. Park rangers at the main office were very helpful.

Yes! Cherry Springs is only a couple miles away on black topped road. Very easy!
I believe they close after Labor Day!
