we were fortunate enough to stay at this charming B & B while visiting the Brandywine Valley. Longwood B & B is centrally located, a very easy drive to all of the attractions we were interested in visiting - the Gardens, Winterthur & the Brandywine River Museum. Our host, John, is very personable & very knowledgeable about the area.
We stayed in the Brandywine Suite - spacious & well appointed - even a vanity for makeup application. One caution - the bed is REALLY high - they do have cute steps to get up on the bed, but I worried about stumbling over them in the middle of the night.
One complaint about the room - the hair dryer is ANCIENT!!! Mounted on the wall, like a vacuum cleaner type sound. With only 3 rooms on the property, a plug in hair dryer is easy enough to have in each room
The reason I didn't give this inn 5 stars is the kitchen was woefully empty - didn't seem to have any snacks available, other than at the lovely breakfast time. Their ad says the cookie jar is never empty, well, except, it was. And no beverages of any kind, other than hot tea or decaf coffee via a Keurig machine. Bottled water or soft drinks would have been very welcome. Wine would be even more welcome!! Again, with only 3 rooms in the Inn, this would not have broken the bank!
Breakfast was delicious & nicely presented - baked goods, fresh fruit & a hot course - all quite ample!
With just a few tweaks, our stay would be perfect!

My grandmother and I stayed at the Longwood Bed and Breakfast over the weekend and we had a great stay! It is less than 1 mile from Longwood Gardens (a MUST see! Just beautiful). We stayed in a 3 room suite, it was very clean and nice and big! We had a large bedroom, sitting area, and bathroom. The view looked over the peaceful backyard filled with many trees and a koi pond. John (owner) prepared breakfast each morning (one morning- pineapple and coconut bread along with a quiche and roasted asparagus, the next was an egg and veggie souffle with ham) all served alongside fresh fruit (blackberries, kiwi, cantalope, honeydew, peaches) and fresh coffee, OJ and tea. The other guests were also very pleasant and fun to talk to at breakfast. John (owner) was very knowledgeable about the area's history and suggested things to do. The price is very reasonable for this bed and breakfast and it felt as if we were staying at a friend's house!

This was the most delightful B & B, full of the charm you would expect in a good B & B. The hosts were charming and so helpful: nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were clean, beautifully equipped, furnished and decorated. Lots of 'friendly' details. We had the Winterthur suite which was perfect for two single adults sharing. There is a suite of rooms. A twin room and a king, which lead into a comfortable sitting area with TV. The bathroom is off this area, so if someone is up in the night, they don't disturb the other sleeper. (This arrangement is not too clear from the description given). Breakfast was fruit, cooked eggs, sausage, peppers, cheese, portobello mushrooms and cake to finish, fruit juice and coffee etc. I think there were other things on offer.
The location is quiet with a lovely garden, forgot to say there is a small kitchen area with kettle, fridge and microwave, also a balcony with seating.
Perfect location for touring the local sights. Winterthur, Longwood Gardens and Nemours. All within a few miles. Nemours seems to get overlooked in favor of the the other two 'giants', but it is a 'not to be missed' visit. Book ahead as tours are limited. All in all a great place for a weekend break. Pity we couldn't stay longer and do the wine trail. Get your tickets for this and Winterthur at Longwood Inn.
I highly recommend this beautiful Inn.

The owner John is very calm, professional, and easy to talk to. He gladly escorted my fiancé and I around the carriage house and answered any questions we had. I went home and reserved online. In the form, there is a spot for special requests, in which I requested I be permitted to check in early on the day of my wedding, so I wouldn't have to wait until very late in the evening. I also wanted my mom and two sisters to come with me, help me put on my dress, and do our make up together. John had said this likely wouldn't be a problem, as we were getting a room mid week. A few days later I received a phone call in which a woman kept suggesting other B&B's, expressed her distaste for my failure to be up front about the check in time and the bridal party, stated it would be a liability concern to have other people in the room, and then insulted me when I asked what the check in time was anyway, in case I would like to stay but rearrange our plans, because "well, it's all over our website and I am certain my husband told you when you were here," as if I was not permitted to forget. I tried to explain that we are not having a traditional ceremony with lots of guests and I am quite flexible. But, she finally admitted she did not want me to stay there. She rudely assumed the details of my wedding and without even trying to accommodate me, she made me feel like I was out of line for making any special requests. I guess they should not have a "requests" box on the reservations!!

Longwood Bed & Breakfast advertises itself as a place “Where we pamper our guests”. I did not find this to be the case. As a matter of fact, after 3 nights I wanted to be home with my own fluffy towels, high thread count sheets and nice shampoo.

The host has indicated he would be willing to provide more if we just asked. That’s right, it was our fault for not asking. If you want to stay there here is what I would ask:

*I would appreciate a greater selection of food for breakfast. Do you have any vegetarian options? Could I have toast instead of grocery store cranberry bread?
* Will you please take the rowing machine out of the “gathering room”? You explained you had it here because you were selling it. How about it stays in your house next door, and not in the suite I am paying for.
*Will you please take your daughters boxes out of the “gathering room”? This was noted on a review from a year ago.
*Please leave some waters and sodas. We had to buy our own, as we didn’t realize these might appear if we just asked.
*Where the heck are the snacks? I never saw a cookie jar.
*Hey John, how about you spring for some individual shampoos, conditioners, and body wash. It makes me feel creepy to have open bottles of dove products (picture included) to use in the shower. How many other people have used these?
*Why are you leaving me notes to do my own dishes? Where is the drying rack? Why am I expected to do dishes when I am a paying guest?
*Please provide me with 2 towels for each person staying in the suite. I would appreciate having fluffy towels, not towels that look like they came from the “Y”.
*Do you have some time to panel and paint the plumbing in the dry bar area of the Longwood suite?

Remember, if you plan to stay at the Longwood B&B be sure to ask for what is advertised on the website.

Recently stayed for 2 nights on a girls weekend retreat. The location was close main attractions such as the Dupont Estates, Longwood gardens, and several wineries. Our suite was a great size with a king bedroom, sitting area and 2 twins in another attached bedroom. It was clean and tidy. We arrived late, were met in driveway by a gentleman and escorted to our room. Upon entry, a musty odor was apparent. Noticeable were unpainted door casings, stair trim and even a box of some outdoor funiture stored unopened right in the living room. The Winterthur Suite's air was stale and no lights had been turned on prior to our arrival as to warm our welcome. The Gentleman showed us around the suite quietly and politely, then left us. Upon entry were some nicely done information binders but with handwritten notes on them stating we were not to take them. Also posted at eye level in the wet bar area outside the room was another handwritten note indicating we had to wash, dry and put away any dishes we used. Instant Coffee and tea were available in the wet bar area. The minifridge was empty, no bottled water, soft drinks, juice or anything? Had to just fill a glass with some tap water and take it to the room. The Cookie jar was a plastic store bin located downstairs in the dining room. Bath tolietries included large size multi use Dove liquid soap, body moisture lotion, Sea Breeze facial cleanser along with a few other things. Sheets felt like 250-300 thread count. The twins did not have down comforters and noise from the traffic was distracting while sleeping in the sun room. The suite had 1 king and 2 twin beds. Only 1 twin bed was made up with a complete sheet set along with the king. Would have been nice to have had the option of picking a bed, since that was the reason for booking the suite in the first place. Our host was nice and polite. He served us breakfast both mornings. Never saw the other host the entire weekend. Breakfast was good but not over the top in any way. Overall I'd say the place should be advertised as a country bed and breakfast. It is a standard if not sub par bed and breakfast, but definately not a full service B&B.

We stayed two nights over Mothers' Day weekend, and had a wonderful time visiting nearby Longwood Gardens and the town of Tennet Square. The three guest rooms are in building separate from the main house, but they share a common sitting room, dining room, and kitchen. Our "Longwood Suite" was on the ground floor and had French doors opening out on our own private patio. It was very large and had a large, comfortable king bed, and a separate sitting room with a microwave and small refrigerator. It was spotlessly clean and, best of all (because I'm a light sleeper) it was incredibly quiet. Breakfast was excellent, and John and Barbara gave us wonderful advice about restaurants in the area. It was a perfect weekend, and we highly recommend this place.

My wife and I just completed our second stay at Longwood B&B. As previously we were very happy with our accommodations, cleanliness, location, amenities and breakfast. For the area, the price is very reasonable. John and Barbara have thought of everything. We would highly recommend the Longwood B&B if you visit the area.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Longwood Bed & Breakfast, mostly due the accommodating , helpful & friendly manner of the host/mgr, John. It's quiet, clean & classy. The renovations, done since our 1st visit in 2009, made the inn even more attractive. The location made it accessible, for walking to local stores, & a bank. This place makes our Boston visit, a lovely retreat.

In our plans to visits Longwood Gardens we found Longwood Bed & Breakfast Inn. My husband and I would highly recommend these accommodates for those in this area. Our Suite was very tastefully appointed and very comfortable. Great detail was given to provide the guest with detailed information on attractions and restaurants in the area. John the host served a delicious breakfast the next morning. Johns went out of his way to make sure that all our needs were met while allowing you to enjoy our personal privacy. My husband and I wish that we had planned to stay more than one night at the Inn. We will defintely stay here again,
