We arrived during the coldest weekend of 2007 but warmed up considerably when we were welcomed at The Inn on College Hill at 3233 Sixth Avenue in Beaver Falls, Pa.
My sister and I were welcomed by innkeepers Betty and Howard Mattsson-Bozé into the gracious foyer of this c. 1910 home, with its beautiful built-in cabinets, fireplaces, oak trim and paneling, and a great collection of interesting antiques and decorative objects.
We were shown to our rooms, the Amish room with its beautiful quilt on the bed, and the birdhouse room, decorated with, well, birdhouses! Both rooms were spotless and well-appointed.
The bath we shared was equally clean and delightfully old-fashioned. There's a clawfoot bathtub equipped with a shower. The only problem for me was the lighting, which made it hard for me to see while shaving. It may be that someone of more average height would not have had a problem with the pendant light over the pedestal sink.
In the morning we were welcomed through massive pocket doors into the large living room, filled with comfortable furniture and antiques and sporting leaded glass window transoms. There's a beautiful fireplace and grand piano. We were offered two different local newspapers, which we read as breakfast was being prepared.
When called to the table, we found a very nice choice of items. There was delicious coffee, freshly cut fruit, juice, cereal, quiche, freshly baked bread, and Betty's special muffins, so moist and tasty!
Another treat was conversation with the innkeepers. This is what I like most about a good B&B. You sit with the hosts and talk, learning about them, sharing information about yourself, as if you were family or friends over for a visit. These are two very well-spoken and intelligent people -- you'll enjoy chatting with them!
The Inn on College Hill offers good rates, a lovely atmosphere, and congenial hosts. Forget the Holiday Inn and head for this little treasure in Beaver Falls.

We enjoyed staying here in the past - just called the second phone number given, and they have unfortunately are no longer in business. Lovely proprietors and very close to Geneva College, so it was convenient to stay there. Plus, the proprietors had had connections with the College in the past, so it was always informative to speak with them.

Let's get one thing out of the way, first. The innkeepers, Howard and Betty Mattson-Boze are people I know. Dr. Matt taught me at Geneva College many yesrs ago. And, if you're visiting Geneva, this is a great thing. The Inn is barely two blocks from the College. It stis on a street with many other fine, older homes, and is gorgeous inside. I had the Rose Room, which was worth every penny. It was beautifully decorated with rose-pink walls, a lovely quilt on the bed, a Persian rug on the floor, and interesting knick-knacks scattered around. Also, there were several lamps, so there was plenty of light for reading. The crowning touch was the gas fireplace. I simply reached into it, turned a knob, and the warmth and beauty of the flames were mine to enjoy!
The bed was comfy and warm, and there were extra throws and afghans in the room. There was also a closet w/ hangers, and a luggage rack.
The en-suite bath was decorated in rose too. A lovely tub, plenty of hot water, a sink w/ a shelf above, and good lighting.
Mrs. Matt had a wonderful breakfast with ham and onion quiche, two kinds of muffins (apple and zucchini - great!), fruit and yogurt, juice, and coffee or tea.
Only things I didn't like: 1. there were trains running nearby, which you had to get used to. They tooted their horns at the worst times! 2. There were very light-colored blinds on the windows, no shades, so I did feel exposed at night, although I was on the second floor. I'd recommend pulldown shades for privacy's sake.
Next time I visit Beaver Falls, I'm absolutely staying here!
