I have to preface this by saying I work in the hospitality industry and am a really tough critic. The team at this hotel is outstanding. I had a really long, difficult day of travel. When I was greeted at check-in by Drew and Ren, they were so incredibly pleasant and helpful. BTW, it was the end of their shifts and it probably would have been easier to just check me in and send me off. Instead, they took the time to chat a few minutes and really helped to put me in a better frame of mind. I saw Drew a few times during my stay and his personality and helpfulness was consistent EVERY SINGLE TIME! Shoutout to Iya as well. The worst job (Night Audit) and he was as lovely at 11 PM as he was at 6 AM. In this time of the great resignation where getting people to even show up, Drew, Iya and Ren were a true bright spot in my travel. The hotel was clean (yes, CLEAN) and comfortable. The 5 rating is all because of the employees I encountered, though. GM - do what you need to do to keep these employees engaged and retained!…
First I want to say, while Pearl district is not downtown, this hotel is several blocks away from the downtown area. It doesn’t have the boarded up windows that’s afflicting downtown area (from last year’s riots) but has its share of homelessness. For the most part it doesn’t seem to be a safety concern for the hotel but you can go couple blocks, especially east and it feels a bit different. So for street parking, stick to the west and south and while we were there for Memorial Day weekend, we strangely had great luck and always found parking on the street of the hotel (I know this was a pain point for many previous reviews). For the hotel itself, it doesn’t have a grand lobby but it’s a nice 4 star hotel with a very nice restaurant and common gathering area. The mask policy and social distancing with elevators was practiced along with contactless check-in and check-out. There was even the seal of “cleanliness” for each room upon check-in, which was a nice assurance. The room was spacious with plenty of area for storing your luggage and clothes. The safe in the room was large enough to fit 2 full laptops plus more, along with fridge and a coffee/tea station. The rooms were clean and beds very comfortable, along with a nicely lit bathroom and walk-in shower. The sole window in the room only covered half the wall but enough to get good natural light with automated blinds. The hotel also provides a water dispenser which was a nice convenience to fill up all our water bottles on the way out every day. And of course, this is on top of the great customer service, answering our questions about nearby sights and helping with extra sheets, etc.…
Great stay at Canopy. Hotel was clean and comfortable. We found the area to be walkable. We walked to shops and restaurants. The restaurant in the hotel had great breakfast offerings. Loved the water bottle refill station. As many reviewers pointed out, only parking available is expensive valet. We utilized the valet and while it is very expensive, it was super convenient. We would text the valet about 15 min before we wanted to leave and it was always waiting for us when we got out front.
From the beginning it was not a good start. We had booked a king bed room and when coming to check in the front desk had said they only had doubles available. Customer service was terrible with front desk, did not care. After the first night we found bed bugs in our bed! Attached is a picture of one. We called the front desk and it turns out they have many king bed rooms to place us in now. Beds are uncomfortable, rooms are noisy and you can hear people around you. Would never come back.
Maybe Hilton is short on staff or budget, but they really need to replace their mattresses. The hotel is already very "basic" and bare bones, but I'd prefer it to be even more minimalist if they just had a supportive bed and carpet in the rooms. My back was spasming my entire trip, on the trip back, and for days after. Waste of my "restful" vacation days. I dont need any "cutesy" cheap hipster details. The expense of our stay didn't really match the very low quality basic ammendities. I'd be happy to pay the same amount if they had just had bare bones quality instead of cheaping out on the agreed basics. This hotel reminds me of the cheap budget hotels in Europe, like Travelodge or ibis... except with those, you know what you're are and are not paying for.
