I've stayed here in years past for work related events but this place has gone down hill. Where to start? 1. The heat in the room didn't work. When I first entered the room I thought the AC had been left on full blast, as cold air was pumping out and it was 63 degrees. No, that was the heat setting. I had to turn the heat/AC system totally off and rely on sunlight through the window the next two days to heat the room nicely, which it did. But it won't be pleasant for a person staying here on a cold day. 2. The internet was unreliable, which is an understatement. At a conservative estimate it probably went down about 50 times. Trying to do any kind of work in the room was extremely difficult (see photo). 3. I appreciate that there is no service for extended stays during Covid. I was happy to use the towels left in the bathroom. However the second towel was in threads and falling apart (ok, you really have to see this photo!). 4. The sink in the entry way didn't want to drain (and didn't have hot water) but thankfully the one in the bathroom was working (see photo). 5. There were odd stains - one on my bed spread, one on my co-worker's shower curtain (see photos), and a hole in the closet ceiling (see photo). 6. Normally when I get a room with two beds and it's only me I'm very careful to not mess up the unused bed. However, my extra bed was all wrinkled upon arrival and looked like somebody had been napping on it. 7. My co-worker's hair dryer seemed to be broken, melted, and a probable fire hazard (see photos) 8. Coming back from dinner another guest informed my party that someone's car had been stolen out of the parking lot and advised parking near the entrance, the only place that had cameras. I'm not commenting on the rooms overlooking the freeway, a construction zone, outhouses, and the homeless encampment immediately outside the hotel fence. These are not things that Red Lion can control. But if you put up with those things, you shouldn't have to put up with no heat, stains, torn towels, etc. etc. Totally unacceptable for a Red Lion.

This is what I wrote and all they did was say ..."Oh well" Never will I hold anything here!!! I am writing you with great disappointment in your staff regarding this reservation, it has our entire family upset. I have held conferences at your company for years even when the other hotel was still standing. I've had my daughter's 40 birthday there and my other daughter and my graduation celebration when we graduated with our MBA. I've been a long-standing fan of the Red Lion, until Saturday. My granddaughter, Kiyara had a big day Saturday, it was her wedding and I got her and her new hubby this overnight as a wedding gift, it was all paid for. They were chauffeured to the hotel and as they went to check-in, the girl at the reservation desk, I didn't get her name I was so angry. Anyway, the girl at the registration desk asked her for her identification, well in their rush off as the family blew bubbles to wish them well, she left her wallet at her mom's house. But she had her identification on her cell phone. The girl would not accept it, so my granddaughter Kiyara called and her mom was on her way to bring it. The girl told her they could not accept that as my granddaughter has to go get it herself, then said had canceled the reservation. How extremely embarrassing for the couple and that girl who should be hospitable was so far from it, she ruined what was a beautiful day. My granddaughter, Kiyara describe the girl as Asian and the other girl had short curly hair as she was so upset she didn't get the names either. I don't know if your girl has a prejudice because they are a mix race couple or what the front desk issues were. I have worked with hotels for over 30 years as I manage educational conferences for physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. The room was paid, I don't understand, and showing a picture of her identification is not unusual for young people but the worse part is when she told Kiyara that she would have to go get her identification, and not have her mother bring it. So very upsetting as making this reservation was a very pleasant experience, but this was too much. She was in tears and we went and got them both, it broke my heart. They even had on their "just married" t-shirts, luggage, and were ready to enjoy the beginning of what we pray a forever marriage, like her grandparents as we have been married 46 years. My heart still breaks. I wish I had both the girl's names that treated them this way. It was unbelievable and sad.

This hotel looks amazing from the outside. Large hotel, pool, tennis courts (if your into that kind of thing) and a restaurant that is comparable in price to anything out in town. Get a room with a river view if possible. One downside possibly from Covid is the staff seems to be a little light. Our room was cleaned, probably 2 weeks before our arrival. Cobwebs in corners, dusty surfaces, and a multiple other items that looks like they were cleaned a while ago, and we had an open bottle of alcohol in the fridge on check-in. Parking is easy in the extra large lot and the security guard driving his golf cart around made us feel safer about leaving our car and trailer in the parking lot across the street from multiple homeless encampments that included a parted out car on blocks. Overall, the hotel and staff were nice but I think it would be wise to check rooms they are issuing to customers a little better.

The hotel is an aging convention hotel (I remember coming here in the early 1980’s and also from a pleasant stay in 2011) but the hotel has gone downhill. There is a long hike from the entrance where you unload your luggage to the one elevator that is located between the two accommodations wings of the hotel. Once at the floor where your room is you might well have an additional long walk. The hotel itself is in decent shape though it definitely is showing its age. Corridors are long and dark and the popcorn ceilings in the rooms bring back memories of an earlier time. There is a large contingent of homeless people camped just outside of the hotel’s property complete with a stripped car nearby. Despite the staff’s reassurances about safety on the first night that I was here there were two police cars, a fire engine, and an ambulance were called to deal with an incident in the hotel’s parking lot. Rooms that are not on the river side face the very busy I5 bridge crossing with constant road noise. Opening the sliding glass door and using the balcony is not an option due to the noise. The rooms are large and wifi quality was good (measured around 16 Mbps while connected through a VPN). There is no information in the room (i.e. no TV channel listing, room service menu, etc.). There is a large shopping center with Best Buy, Lowes, and other retail stores within driving distance, but few restaurants are nearby. Choices in the restaurant are very limited. For breakfast you order at a desk and they bring your food to you. The restaurant has been moved and no longer has views over the river. In fact, there is no view at all. The hotel is used by American Cruise Lines which embarks passengers for their Columbia River cruises. If you are part of that group then this would be a convenient hotel to stay at (the pier is right outside the hotel), otherwise I would look for somewhere else to stay.

The web site photos show the conference rooms along the river they are not guest rooms. There are no rooms that look directly at the river, by the river. We asked for one and were assured one but did not get an end room. Breakfast staff are OVERWHELMED by feeding the cruise ship that docks here 3 times per week including Saturdays and Sundays. Staff is very friendly. Nothing is within walking distance. Towels were hard to come by. We enjoyed picking the wild black berries along the river service way. The hot tub jets were not working for two consecutive weekends but the property did have a few pool toys out.
