I stayed in this lovely, cozy, wonderfully period decorated home. I enjoyed Baker City & seeing Hells Canyon very much, but the cherished memory will be conversations with owners Ivy and Ernie. They went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable, gave us great suggestions of what to see, where to eat as well as history of the area. The guest rooms were decorated with wonderful antiques, the beds were comfy, and I couldn't have felt more at home. Highly recommend!

My wife and I had to go to Baker City for a night and we thought we would try a B&B. We were very happy with our choice. There is a choice of two rooms but COVID-19 has limited the availability of the second room unless you are immediate family because of the shared bath. In addition to the bedroom/bathroom (a separate shower and a soaking tub with romantic touches) upstairs, you have access to a downstairs living room with fireplace, comfortable chairs, TV, movies, books, etc. They provide ice, water, and evening chocolates upstairs in the hallway.

Now for the good part. Ivy, Earnie, and Rufus (a 15 year old dog) are very welcoming and friendly. Breakfast was amazing. Ivy brought out yogurt and granola and fruit and scones and eggs. Then she brought out stuffed French toast and apple turnovers. It was enough to feed 6 people. We took some with us and enjoyed it at home the next morning. Ivy grew up on a ranch so she knows how to feed many ranch hands even though it was only the two of us.

Ivy and Ernie were the consummate hosts. If you like 30's or 40's decor this venue is the place for you. The guest bedroom features a queen size bed with a broken fan and trains passing by the night. The $85 rate was actually $175 per night. We will not be staying here another time.

The hospitality was excellent: clean & welcoming with good service and great food. The hosts were friendly but not pushy. Great conversation about local area offerings. They recommended an amazing place to eat downtown Baker!

My wife and I had the opportunity to stay at A Beaten Path Bed and Breakfast this past December 2011. This is a precious B & B, situated in a renovated Victorian-style home about 4 blocks from downtown Baker City, Oregon.

What makes this lodging special are the hosts, Ivy and Ernest. They were extremely accommodating and looked after all our needs. They arranged for special meal requests for breakfast, such as non-dairy and non-meat. Since we came to Baker to cross-country ski at Anthony Lakes Ski Resort, they checked weather and snow conditions for us. Information was provided to us on local restaurants, movie theater, and directors to these venues.

The house itself was nicely appointed, clean, and very comfortable. There is a large living room with nice furniture and an entertainment center for guests. The three guest rooms are upstairs, and share a bathroom. The bedrooms each had a theme and were tastefully decorated with various antiques and kitsch. The mattress was comfortable and queen sized in our room. A modest clothes cabinet was provided, along with two dressers for clothes storage.

For being so close to downtown, the facility is located in a very quiet neighborhood and there is good insulation between rooms and the downstairs areas. It is 5 minutes from the local eateries and grocery stores (Safeway, Albertsons); and about 40 minutes to Anthony Lakes.

To say the breakfast was superb would be an understatement. We were overwhelmed with the freshness, quality, and volume of our food. There was fresh fruit, eggs, french toast, yoghurt, granola, bacon, and coffee for one morning. Another morning there were special omelettes, sliced strawberries, melon, granola, gluten-free pancakes, oatmeal, milk, tea, and coffee. At night, there was a carafe of ice water and hand made chocolates brought to upstairs to the rooms.

What more could a guest want?

Staying @ a Bed and Breakfast can be tricky.....some hosts smother you...some ignore you.... the perfect balance is difficult and rare to find.

A Beaten Path B&B has found the balance. The hosts are warm without being obtrusive, they provide you with plenty of space to stretch out and relax.....and breakfast is perfect....

We stayed here 2 nights during our trip from Dallas to Seattle...and would highly recommend this B&B to anyone staying anywhere close to Baker City....you'll be doing yourself a favor...

Hi, Baker city is small town, but so beautiful city...in U.S and very historical value & location.
This winter 2013, it was the first visit to Oregon. We travelled to California this winter, SanFrancisco, Camel, Monterary,,,but Bakercity trip is more valuable travel.
Great ski at Anthony Lake Ski Report with a lot of snowing. And we had dinner at great brewery restaurant downtown Baker city. We sleep very well and had great full breakfast
Beautiful room and bath. clean and clean. dinning room...everything is ...great.
Great trip and very kind owners. She took some food for our take out and really delicious when we came back home.
We stayed one night, but would like to stay more.
Must go and stay!! Recommend.

Baker City was our halfway stop for a two-day drive from Salt Lake City to the Oregon Coast. Looking up places for a family of 6 to stay, I came across this Bed and Breakfast. The reviews were good, so I thought, let's try it (our kids have never had a B&B experience).
It was the best reservation I could have made. After a 7-hour drive, we arrived late in the evening. The kids were tired from the ride, but a little weirded out by our explanation that we'd be sleeping at someone's house for the night. You should have seen their faces when we stepped inside, and Ivy began showing us around. Wow. They (and we) were loving this place! It is an 1880's home, and decorated in the old style, done so well. Homey, comfortable, and beautiful at the same time. Ivy and Ernie are a wonderful couple, with a talent for hospitality.
There are 3 bedrooms, but they only book one family at a time. Our family used 2 rooms, we were very comfortable and slept very well. The living room area is also "yours", as Ivy says, while you are there.
As if all that were not great enough already, the breakfast prepared for us in the morning absolutely knocked our socks off--it was a meal fit for a king, really, served beautifully in the dining room.
The old saying goes, "getting there is half the fun". This is definitely the case here. It was halfway to our destination, but it was a highlight of our trip, both going and coming back. A memorable experience, if we ever pass that way again I will not hesitate to book our stay with A Beaten Path.

Carol; I know this is waaayy late to respond, but we are now accepting reservations. Covid 19 put a damper on things and had us "gun-shy" to make too many reservations. Ivy and I had diagnosed Covid last November and have also had vaccinations in January. Room cost is $125.00 Same phone no. (541) 523-9230
