2 adults/2 kids 10/13y.o, 2 nights.

A unique, quirky and pleasant accommodation. Very central (you can access the chairlift by crossing the road via the stairs in the middle of the street).

The apartment feels spacious, but it's a converted ceiling space so there are some low areas to watch your head. Other than main bedroom, it's open plan with the lounge/kitchen/other beds, so noise in the kitchenette might be a problem while people are still asleep.

There are 2 areas to sit with views of the bay, one in main bedroom (quite large), and the lounge room. The main bedroom has a TV, the lounge has a TV with DVD.

The kitchenette is supplied with a bar fridge, microwave, mini oven, toaster & electric frypan. No stove as such but more than adequate. No dinning table but the seating was adequate.

Coffee bags were plentiful and whisky/brandy? was a nice touch.

If you're over 6 foot tall, you might need to watch your head in shower, and water pressure not great, but plenty of hot water.

I would say it gets warm in summer but there are 2 air-conditioners so it wouldn't be a problem.
The kids enjoyed playing with their cars on the stairs, hope they weren't too loud!

Overall it was great, one of a kind.

We had a delightful stay at Stamps of Stanley for a family of three. We stayed in the upper Customs room, which comfortably sleeps up to five (two queens, one single). The attic windows with views back over Stanley provide a peaceful outlook. The apartment was very comfortable, and the kitchenette had what was needed for breakfast and lunch preparation (we ate dinner out both evenings). The hosts were great, communicated well regarding the booking, and have provided some lovely extra touches to the accommodation. It is within walking distance of the main eating places, and the IGA supermarket.

The description of this apartment fell short of reality…details on the payment receipt clearly state $150 for 2 adults listing 2 queen beds…perfect for 2 older friends, NOT A COUPLE NOR DOUBLE.
On check in one of these beds was in the locked bedroom. Upon a phone call, I was told $50 extra would unlock the room…later I noticed that in online websites an extra person would require just $20-$25.
I spent a restless night crammed into the single bed close to my much taller friend in the queen bed - we both snore!
Stamps of Stanley is a special place…such a shame about the false advertising.

Stayed overnight with friends at Stamps on Stanley and were very happy with our accommodation. Hosts were very friendly offering advise on anything we needed to know. Rooms were warm and clean with good facilities, the brandy and chocolates were very much appreciated.

The hosts were fantastic and go out of their way to make you welcome and comfortable.
The kids were amazed that we have booked a stay at (over) an actual working postoffice. They thought we were pulling their legs. The apartment has plenty of room for our family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids - 8, 10, 12). Its very bright an airy, with a small basic kitchenette. We didn't really use the facilities as breakfast at Moby's was a few doors down, and the dinner restaurants were not far.
There are stairs to negotiate to access the apartment, but we are now over the stroller stage so it wasn't a problem.
The Nut is a must do. Even if the chair lift isn't working, it wasn't too difficult. But anti-clockwise is definitely the direction to take.
We unfortunately didn't find the penguins, but it was very late in their season.
All in all we loved our short stay in Stanley: it's a pretty place.
Stamps of Stanley was a cosy, comfortable and peaceful stay. The photos don't do it justice, and I really would have been happy paying more for the stay.
Thankyou so much for having us!

A delightful place in the heart of bustling Stanley. Our room was virtually an apartment with large bedroom and a kitchenette. Good bed with electric blankets. Only problem we encountered were the children in the room above who started training for the Olympics at 6:300 AM. Not the best soundproofing, but to be fair, most of the time we didn't hear anything until the kids were awake and roaring to go. Otherwise, this Belgium runs a fantastic operation.

Very highly recommended. Spacious apartment and exceptionally well equipped. Spotless. In town but extremely quiet. Close to supermarket, The Nut and all amenities. Very reasonably priced. Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed in the upper Customs room. Excellent value for money. Layout is a bit unusual and probably not suited to two couples staying, but fine for a couple or a family. Toilet lacks privacy and shower is underwhelming.

But great location and value. Would stay again.

If you are looking for self contained accommodation then this is NOT the place for you. We stayed in Customs House for 3 nights. A spacious, clean unit with splendid views across the bay. Close by street parking can be a problem during busy periods as can be negotiating 2 flights of stairs with heavy luggage. Whilst not unfriendly, Lynda was the least welcoming of any during our extensive trip around Tassie. On arrival, she immediately suggested the best places around to eat and seemed surprised at our intensions to prepare our own meals. She also told us the bbq was available for our use. It is misleading to call this appartment self contained. We had brought 3 days supplies of meals with us only to find nowhere to store them. The "kitchen" consists of a microwave (with no microwavable containers), toaster, kettle and a minute bar frdige with a miniscule freezer badly in need of defrosting. Without our own esky and ice we would have been in trouble, The tiny kitchen bin is not regularly emptied necessitating regular trips to the nearby street bins. We struggled to prepare even the most basic meals and we are experts at self contained travelling. It would be totally impossible for 5 people to stay there as the small dining table only seats 2. To use the bbq would mean carting food and utensils down stairs, into the street, around the building, through a gate (being careful not to let the family dog escape) and, whilst we were there, then removing several paint tins being stored on the hot plate! We were not surprised to see it had not been used for some considerable time. The unit is huge so there is no excuse for not suppling a bigger fridge and installing a small stove top so it could be truely classified as self contained as advertised. In short fantastic stay for 1 or 2 nights and eat out for every meal but self contained - not!

Dear Therese864, I know it takes all kinds to make the world go round but your review I don't get. When you were checking in I am certain you both told me that you had been here 12 months ago and stayed in the same unit. You seemed quite excited to be doing it again. My question to you is if you had been here before why did you NOT know what to expect as far as the room is concerned. In all advertising and emails the description never changes. It is advertised as a KITCHENETTE not a full kitchen. and the items are listed as being a microwave, kettle, toaster and the offer of an electric frypan which you took up. As there were only two of you, you should have had extra bowls to use in the microwave. I have taken this point on board though as it is a valid point. As for your complaint about TWO flights of stairs, how can an UPSTAIRS unit not have stairs? The comment about the bin NOT being emptied, this is NOT a serviced unit. You do need to do some things for yourself and bins are provided at the side of the Post Office.. As you have said, you travelled with eskys and ice, why did you need a bigger fridge. We have had seven people stay in Customs House for three days in summer and they had nothing but praise for the unit and they were more than happy to use eskys to help them out, after all ice can be brought at the supermarket which is right behind us. The structure of the unit is not campatible with having a stove in it because of ventilation and the way the roof is. The building has been standing since 1897. As we live on the premises our dog is part of our family and we did come home one night and she was out because some person had not fastened the gate after themselves.
