Located at the Tarkine Animal farm, there are lots of cute friendly animals like llama, camel, horses, goats, cows, chickens, peacocks, parrots, etc.

There is a beautiful private beach at the property to enjoy long walks.

The cabin is clean and spacious well equipped with all the kitchen essentials to cook your meals, a big fridge and dishwasher.

There is a washing machine free for your use and a dryer which takes 2 $1 coins.

We enjoyed our stay very much. There is free WiFi at the reception area not at the cabin.

The host is very nice and helpful. Highly recommended to those staying at Stanley.
It is 10 min drive to the Stanley hotel with delicious meals and the chocolate gallery. The hike up to the Nut is beautiful with lots of scenic views, wallabies. Check out the little penguins returning in the evening at 930pm at the viewing platform.

We were pleasantly surprised on arrival to find a split -level good sized small house. The house was stylish with well appointed furniture. Whilst it is beachside, it is a bit of a struggle to access the beach due to local regulations. It is a bit of a walk through the grass to reach the sand. This was explained to us on arrival when we collected our keys. A suggestion would be when the house is vacated and cleaned for the pantry items to be checked and restocked. There was pepper/salt, oil in the pantry. The oil however was almost empty. Also, we didn't realise there was no WiFi available and we had to use our personal hotspots whilst staying. It was only a 5 minute drive in to Stanley which was an easy drive in to the very pretty town.

Amazing location overlooking the beach. Fully appointed cabin with uniquely carved timber furnishings. If you want to get away from it all and relax while enjoying the local surroundings of Stanley, Smithton and the north/west coast, this is the place to be. Friendly welcoming hosts, the most comfortable thoughtfully designed cabins right on the beach, you can't ask for much more than that.

I do not like giving negative feedback and much prefer to remain silent, however, I think it would be remiss of me to give a detailed description of our very brief stay at this retreat.

Let me explain:

My wife and I booked this retreat a few months ago I for her birthday weekend and according to the ratings and photos looked to be an excellent venue to spend a couple of nights. Upon arrival you pass the animal petting area, very cute. But as you travel further up the driveway early warning signs become apparent. We noticed that the main house looked a little unkept. A key with a note was left for us at reception with directions to our cabin named Sea Eagle. Each of the cabins are named after indigenous birds. As we approached our cabin, it was apparent that the area around the cabin was not maintained and the cabin itself showed signs of wear and tear and not the fresh cabin that the photos portrayed. As we opened the door we entered the cabin which was quite stuffy following a hot day, so we attempted to open some of the windows with a winding mechanism which was broken, so had to stand on a chair and hand wind the mechanisms to get a little fresh air into the cabin. We then opened the side glass doors, which were filthy to a small outdoor eatery equally filthy and spiders scattered in all directions! Not going to eat outside. We then walked along a inlaid stone path to what we presumed was the walkway to the beach, only to be confronted by a tangled mess of weeds across the path and no real way getting to the beach. We had noticed signage showing the way to the beach past the last cabin. Walking along the way following the signage we were once again confronted with overgrown bush and given it is summer was not prepared to press on in case we stepped on biting critters!

In summary we paid $250.00 per night for two nights. Our observations were that the retreat needed a serious amount of maintenance and clearing of bush to enable patrons to gain access to the beach. Also the photos are not current so you are left with quite a difference from actual. We decided to leave immediately and head for Stanley proper, as we had noticed a couple of vacancies town. My wife spoke to an understanding manager explaining our apprehensions to stay any further and granted the manager did not charge us for the second night (but we of course were still out of pocket one night !)

Our suggestion is if you can, look before you book, or if you dont mind not having access to the beach then go for it. But for the amount of money you are charged, it may not be the experience you are after.

When deciding on the perfect way to treat my husband for his 30th birthday this year, I looked no further than Beachside Retreat. Having watched the travel program "Getaway", my husband and I had vowed that we just HAD to stay there some day! So remebering this I found the website and to my excitement found that since "Getaway" had screened, Janette and Chris Bishop had added another unique adventure to their amazing accommodation experience...a helicopter ride!
Well...that sealed the deal! With the help of Janette, the flight was organised. My husband was greeted outside our cabin by a Bell Long-Ranger helicopter and to his delight found himself seated with our charming American pilot. As for myself, I was seated in the rear of the helicopter in luxury leather seating enjoying panaromic views from floor to ceiling windows! It was truly exhilarating and as we lifted off and journeyed out over West Inlet Farm and towards Stanley, we had a fantastic brid's eye view of the imposing and majestic Nut. The scenery really is spectacular and from our lofty vantage point, the sweeping coastal views of farmlands and secluded beaches was a wonderful reminder of how special this region of Tasmania is.
The helicopter ride was a wonderful memento of my husband's birthday and an invigorating way to begin a sunny Sunday morning. Fortunately, our experince was captured on camera and video and so we have re-lived our wonderful flight many times since!
Beachside Retreat is a truly unique place to stay. The Eco-Cabins snugly nestled by the secluded beach (where we also picked wild oysters off the rocks) are both innovative in design and extremely well appointed. We were delighted to see that Janette and Chris found the opportunity to showcase some of the talented artisits we have here in Tasmania by using artwork and handcrafted furniture throughout the cabin. The underwater themed bathroom is a real treat also!
My husband and I have recommended Beachside to many family and friends and we are delighted to say that they have also loved Beachside Retreat. The Bishop's are to be applauded for their unique vision and superior accommodation and we know that we will be back to saty again soon!

This property is stunning and amazing value for the facilities offered.

The architecture of the ecocabins is innovative and their beachside location is idyllic. Ours was furnished with modern handmade wooden furniture and had wonderful views out to sea. It is a wonderful place to relax for a few days and has many good restaurants nearby in Stanley.

The owners could not have been more helpful or welcoming.

The Bishops have lovingly created these beachside cabins with all custom designs. Every detail was given careful, expert attention. It was just stunning. You have to see this to believe it.

Our cabin had a large porthole view of The Nut, big enough for an adult to sit in (I did). The bathroom was done in ocean colors, so it almost felt like I was swimming in the ocean when I showered. The woods in the coffee table, bed headboard, etc. were all unique and beautifully crafted. Were they furniture or were they art? We had all we needed, could have cooked full meals for a family quite comfortably here. Janette had put together a wonderful binder on local flora, fauna, restaurants, activities.

They also paid great attention to the environment, with no sacrifice to comfort. I really appreciate the attention to Tasmania's environment.

We have traveled all over the world, and no place has come close to delighting our senses and sensibilities like the Beachside Retreat in Stanley. It is what will bring us back to Tasmania, from the United States.

We toured tasmania for the month of february to escape the worst of our scottish winter. We had done a whistle stop tour for a week thirty one years ago and always meant to return but four kids and a thousand acres of potatoes got in the way. Tasmania is lovely , everything was great and about two thirds of prices at home. We played 15 golf courses , many without seeing a soul. We booked the bungalow beside the farm steading for three nights and stayedfor five. My wife fell in love with west inlet and did not want to leave. Stanley has the famous nut and many lovely restuarants. Shingle Inn was my favourite run by a very lovely mother and daughter , also Stanley-on-the -bay was very good , for lunch I sneaked of to "best burgers in the world" in the centre of town. If anyone is looking for lovely self catering facilities in a great location book into west inlet , you will not regret it. The Bishops offered an eco cabin when one became free , but although it looked great we were delighted to stay where we were in the bungalow. You have to learn to have your evening meal between 1800hrs and 2000hrs so probably will not suit the french. If flying from UK try Gulf Air business class not as expensive as some of the others and a great way to travel and the use of business lounges makes traveling half way round the world an enjoyable experience.

We have lived in several countries including England, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Australia and have had holidays in many more - but have never found a place that had everything we'd want on a holiday - as this place did.
We really enjoyed walking along the beautiful beach which was so near to our chalet,.As dusk fell it was pure magic to watch possums and wallabies emerging from the bush, one possum even came onto our verandah.!
The proprietor was most helpful in being able to answer our questions on names of local flora and fauna and even loaned us her own bird book. We would haved loved to stay longer.
