Detailed Reviews
Amazing town in Tasmania, and an area that is a must go to on a trip to Tasmania. Hotels rooms are good value, but what really makes it great is the people and their attention to detail. The menu is local in the bistro, the food great. Only thing they missed on is providing water to the table. With stefano Lubiano Pinot noir at $10 per glass, water would have taken up too much space. The bar was busy and the locals friendly and inviting. Rooms were clean. Congratulations to the owner/manager. Pulling this off in a regional area is not an easy job. A great value proposition well done

Our stay was in one of the Pol & Pen Cottages and they provided a quiet place to stay in a good location. The cottages are old and old fashioned and dark but had all that was needed although the fit-out and equipmet was dated and yes, the old polypropylene toilet seat adequately descibed the standard. It had a good slow combustion fire-place and adequate supply of wood and a pleasant sunny deck and garden. Prices were high for what was provided and the front desk service at the hotel was less that satisfactory (on one occasion ) where the person flatly refused to print a page ( a mandatory approval to re-enter Victoria) . "We don't do that" was the reponse which made the review a little less than it should have been. The hotel has a number of properties and one assumes little competition so more customer focus is neede as one day there will be more competition.

Stanley is a gorgeous little town. My cousin recommended that I stay at this hotel and to eat at this restaurant. The restaurant was a great recommendation. Yum! I was given room number 9 which is up two lots of steep stairs down the end of a hall and up some more stairs. I wAs glad I only had a backpack and left my suitcase in the car! The door was difficult to open. I actually thought I had the wrong key. If locks require oiling then this lock needs some! Being an end room you have full view of the Main Street and the water. Quite a nice view. Fortunately their was a heater in the room as it is winter and cold! Also great was there is free parking to the side of the hotel.
I struggled to fill the kettle as the sink is very small and shallow so only managed to get a cup of water in there. Also only tea cups available so I’d suggest they add a mug to each room so you can have a decent mug of coffee. The bathroom is nice although if you are tall you may find the position of the toilet to be rather tight and you may bang your knees on the door.
The room was clean. The bedding was nice and it was smartly dressed. I did have a great sleep and the bed was comfortable. I’d recommend this as a place to stay.

Phoned the pub regarding accommodation and they advised that for a group our size, they have a few houses around town. We chose the Green House, just a few hundred meters from the pub itself. It is an older style house with uneven floorboards etc, but being in Stanley it felt like the perfect accommodation. It had 3 bedrooms with comfy beds, a large spa bath in and even an ensuite. It has a shared laundry (free to use) but noone was in the adjoining house so we had this to ourselves also. They even had some complimetary port in the house which we thoroughly enjoyed. I was apprehensive before we arrived as usually I am strictly a hotel girl, but the place we immaculately clean and although it was older, still felt nice. Would recommend if you have a large group

Stayed in room 3 at the top of the stairs.
First thing to remember that the rooms are in a historic hotel (No lifts).
The stairs are steep and narrow and not too good for older people or people with mobility issues.
Room is small with a queen bed , a small chair and luggage rack ,ensuite and toilet.
There is a small fridge, bench with tea, coffee.milk and kettle. Cups, saucers and spoons but no other cutlery or crockery to self cater.
Best part of this room is there is a door to an outside verandah which is shared with room 4 via a flower box seperation .It has a table and chairswith views of the nut and water.
Off street parking is provided next door to the hotel

We booked Abbey's the Green House for our party of five. It is managed by the Stanley Hotel. What a lovely old house, spacious, immaculately clean, good sized bedrooms (3), one with an ensuite. We also had access to a free laundry. Parking can be a bit tight if you have amore than one car and the other two properties are occupied but you have street parking and it's a very safe location. Close to the the town and all of it's wonderful shops. Highly recommended.

Three nights in Stanley and the only place to eat was the pub....did we suffer...hell NO. Could not fault the Cape Grim steak, and the seafood was sensational. First two nights couldn’t eat in the bistro, booked out, no probs, eat in the main bar, staff bent over backwards to make our experience one to remember, and we will. This was the middle of winter, the place must go off in summer......

Busy hotel dining area and bookings are recommended by beach 🏖 🏝 views. Meal presentation is excellent with a pricey for the views. Asian meal menu is offered with kind consideration. Before the darkness and it’s nice to explore at the Penguin viewing platform and make sure you wear your warm clothes even in January summer season for weather conditions change can be happened every second in a daily basis.

I had a lovely overnight stay at Stanley Hotel with a late check out. Thank you to Megan at reception ! The room I was given was cosy & very comfortable with heating which is nice as it gets chilly in Tasmania even in the Spring. The room was immaculately clean & smelt nice. My spacious room opened up to an outdoor covered verandah with seating & I sat there for a time with my oysters & Sav Blanc. The location is ideal for an overnight stay at Stanley & The Nut is on the doorstep. If you are up for a physical challenge climb The Nut. Quaint little shops are dotted throughout this historical town. Thank You to Stanley Hotel & I shall be back.

We stayed in Pol holiday cottage and found it to be well positioned between the beach and town centre. There was a good stock of logs and the fire had been set ready for us to light. Big TV with good reception and a selection of DVDs along with decent facilities. There is also a carport attached which is handy in case of rain.

I think that it is available - although I didn't use the dining room. There are some vey nice little cafes very close by that certainly do light breakfasts.
