Detailed Reviews
We ate at the Ross Bakery on our way to Launceston. We had heard their specialty was their Curry Scallop Pie, which my husband ordered. I ordered the salmon and brie pie, and then we each tasted the others pie. I liked my salmon a lot . . . but I liked the scallop one better, and my husband agreed. In addition, the bakery has cute items to purchase and delicious-looking pastries, though we did not purchase any of those. We were certainly tempted, however.

We stopped for morning tea on Mon, Oct 20, in the delightful village of Ross. While the four of us were waiting to be served we were very disappointed to witness a young woman behind the counter dealing with an Asian customer who was trying to settle his bill with a credit card. The staffer kept repeating in an aggressive manner while increasing the volume, the question: "savings or credit?'' Fortunately an older woman with an air of authority eventually came from the back and dealt with the situation. We probably should have walked out then as the scene had left a sour taste. But we stayed and ordered coffee, vanilla slices and lemon tart which were all judged to be delicious. Some courtesy and an understanding of language differences might help Tasmania's efforts to attract Asian tourists to their beautiful state.

OH MY GOODNESS. First time to ever have it. We so enjoyed the vanilla slice. It was so thick and smooth. Also we wanted croissants for breakfast the next day & they told us they were making them in the am and when they opened we were there first thing and they were still pretty warm and so delicious. We were visiting there 9Dec2016. So when we came back to visit in Sydney for a little while longer we tried it again at 2 different places and we were disappointed.

I was recommended to come here as i travel throughout Tasmania every couple of months. I was very disappointed by the rude female working behind the counter. She was unhelpful and patronising and left me feeling uneasy.
I sat in my car while i waited for my takeaway. The bread was stale that they used for my sandwich. Its a bakery! Never again. Would mot recommend.

Just popped In to ask if they were open for dinner. He was American and said no ways. So I asked if he was open on Tuesday . He said Tuesday morning was his Friday. I couldn't make sense of that. I then realised by the note on the door he was closed on Tuesday. He was also rude to a group of Japanese girls who were infatuated with the bakery as it has to do with a Japanese comic character, and probably the reason he is still open today. Friendly service in a small town is everything. Obviously not everything to the owner of Ross Bakery Inn. Up your game man. Americans are known for their customer service....... !!!

Response from Rossbakery, Manager at Ross Bakery Inn
Responded 12 Apr 2018
Hi Veronica, Thanks for taking the time to write a review. My apologies you found the mannerism of the American man to be rude We are a small family run Bakery. We all work very hard creating and selling handcrafted wood-fired products and pride ourselves on our friendly staff. The rumoured connection with the Japanese Anime - "Kikis Delivery Service" certainly helps our business, however our little bakery is also very well known for its vanilla slice, wood-fired pies, artisan sour dough breads and for being a great little coffee stop. The American is our Baker and amongst other products makes over 200 vanilla slices a day. He is usually very personable and happy to have a chat, perhaps what you encountered was fatigue after a long day/week. I have spoken to him with regards to your review and he has a slightly different recollection of your conversation. He recalls that he was in the process of packing up the outside furniture when you questioned him about being open for dinner. He has told me his response to your dinner question was "only on Saturdays" not "no ways..." So perhaps this was a bit of a mis-understanding. Our bakery shop hours at the moment are 8.30am until 4.30 pm, 6 Days a week, we are closed on Tuesdays. If you would like to privately message me with some information about how he was rude to the Japanese girls, I will follow it up. We do our best to take care of our Kiki fans and if possible even show them our circa 1860 Wood-fired oven and the Attic Room. I agree friendly service in a small town is everything, As the owner/manager of the Ross Village Bakery, I do believe that is what we generally deliver and I apologise for your experience.

We stayed in the historic township of Ross in Tasmania and chose the Ross riverside caravan park to camp. It is the most darling spot, and very very pretty. The whole little town has such appeal if you like the old cottages and beautiful sandstone churches. Everything about this place was beautiful. The caravan park had the cleanest toilet and showers and the lady at the reception was always very welcoming. We loved it we came back a second time! We ate at the Ross Bakery and had a great wood fired pizza and will do the same tonight. Great staff, great company and great town. Don't miss this most special spot.

I visited the Ross Village Bakery & Inn recently with my partner after previously visiting alone and everything was terrific. Very impressed with the quality and price, we even ended up staying the night at the Inn. Very clean and warm and the breakfast included the following morning was fabulous which included some prize winning sourdough, excellent.

Walking past the bakery the sign on the window said "World's best vanilla slice" - we had no choice but to go in and try one. We were not disappointed, it tasted fantastic! The bakery was clean, busy and definitely worth a visit.

The Inn operates as an in-house bed and breakfast plus a small cottage down the road a bit. Booked Kirsty's Cottage for two nights and, based on other Ross Bakery Inn reviews, expected great things. Also, it was quite a bit more expensive than comparable accommodation on the road between Hobart and Launceston.
Quite a few disappointments. First, the living room was much, much smaller than it pretended to be via published photos. The chairs were comfy but the couch was a saggy mess. The cottage was decorated in a very ho hum, ordinary style, part kitsch, part suburban, part junk. The electrics were alarming! The lamp in the living room flashed on and off randomly ALL the time and, it transpired, so did the bedroom touch lamp. Quite scary. The back area verged on unpleasant containing dirty plastic furniture and 3 foot high weeds in abundance. The general feel of the place was a bit grimy and run down and we were glad that we had made plans to eat out both nights.
The breakfast was good BUT we had been told to pick it up at 8.30 the first morning and it was not ready until at least 10 minutes after that. For the price that is charged for the cottage, the breakfast should be delivered (on time).
The good things: Well, the beds were comfortable, the shower was quite adequate, the filtered water was welcome, there was a digital TV with a DVD player, washing machine functioned well and, of course, the cottage location in the centre of the small historic township of Ross is very convenient.
Worth about $100 a night, not the $175 which is being charged.

Of wow,for the lovers of vanilla slice out there you must go to Ross and visit this bakery. OMG, I made the mistake of sharing it with my husband. Ladies don't do it- buy yr own. It melts in yr mouth. They also do pies of all sorts. We didn't try one as we had not long had breakfast but they did look great and were very popular.

Judging by the numbers of customers that take the very short detour off the highway to visit the Ross Bakery on a daily basis, you are sure to find a culinary delight to satisfy your fancy.
