Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge is celebrated for its prime location close to nature trails and Cradle Mountain, offering a clean and cozy sanctuary amidst wildlife. However, guests have called out the absence of modern comforts like Wi-Fi and TVs, and the hotel's potential seems to be not fully tapped. While the cleanliness of the rooms earns positive marks, opinions are divided on their value and amenities, with some deeming them overpriced and lacking. Service quality also draws criticism, with reports of unresponsiveness and disorganization from the lodge's staff.

The property is located in an ideal location, easy walk to the bus into the park and local walking trails. plenty of wildlife around.
I booked a couple of months before we stayed by phone however the staff forgot to mention that there were renovations which closed 1 of the eating venues. The main restaurant was quite pricey for what you got and whilst service from the staff was excellent the maitre d was rude and biased. Despite having booked a window table when making our reservation when we turned up at our appointed time we were told we couldn't have 1 as there were people waiting. He was very dismissive in his response. There were 2 empty window tables however these were eventually filled by oversea tourists. Not sure how this works when I had a confirmed booking weeks in advance. We stayed in a pencil pine lodge which was clean and well presented however probably rated as a good 3.5 star.
Overall a disappointing experience for an Accor property.

When there is a a monopoly on a location, I have found it a universal that the standards of that one accomodation are often less than perfect. This is the case here.

This is a wonderfully located property with great walks straight off the main lodge. The Devils Cradle sanctuary is just up the road and the Interpretation Centre 5 mins walk. It's an easy drive or bus to the visitors centre where the bus leaves to be taken to the circular Cradle Mountain trail. You cannot do better than to stay here for location.

The check-in was a little shambolic and it was hard to concentrate when you can't hear yourself think because of a bunch of Boomers complaining about not being able to get a further discount on their room because there were five of them. Disappointingly, the reception staff seemed not to be very knowledgeable about the area or actually how things worked. We were told the answers to some of our questions were in a 'compendium' in the room, but there was no compendium in the room. In fact, there was no compendium at all.

In fact, there was no information about anything in the room (King Billy Suite) and we had to make multiple calls to reception to check say, whether the little hamper left for us was in fact a gift or whether we could have laundry done.

We splurged on one the King Billy Suites which was really well set up design-wise, very comfortable and had a hot tub on the deck which we enjoyed with a good glass of Tassie Pinot after big days on the trails. Toiletries were good quality, plenty of soft towels, and lots of lovely critters around outside.

As some other reviewers have mentioned you have wallabies, padmellons and some of the fattest and healthier wombats I have ever encountered just making their way around at dusk. The smaller walks nearby the lodge are lovely to do just before dinner because many of the native animals are crepuscular and you'll have more of a chance of seeing them.

Breakfast was a plentiful buffet but was a bit of a cramped and chaotic affair and few wearing masks even at the time when they were mandates. One morning the room was super packed and there was a long line of people waiting for toast (I know we were seated close to this and had these folks backed against my chair talking loudly which was unpleasant).

Dinner is served in the same room, big log fire burning and it was pretty good. We are vegetarians and there were some decent choices. They could improve their wine list.

This place could be amazing...but it isn't. In a World Heritage location that is disappointing.

It needs a good refurb and a really professional management team to improve it. Currently, the property has no imagination in what it offers and the service is amateur and lacking in knowledge.

We stayed for two nights in a spa suite. Having stayed before, the room we were in was significantly smaller than the previous spa suite stayed in. The log fire was the highlight. When we booked, it was advertised that we still got the free port and plate of nibblies in the room. Upon arrival, when we finally got our key, they were nowhere to be found. We rang and asked. Port was bought to the room eventually. The gentleman was less than enthusiastic about it and was even ruder when asked about our plate of nibblies which again we eventually got. Breakfast each morning was off the menu now not buffet which is the norm now. Choice is limited. Quality is poor. The pastries received on the second morning were not fresh. More like rubber than pastry. Room service on the second night was edible, just. Cleaning of thevtables in the restaurant was basic. Given the current cleaning requirements, alot of surfaces were missed. The girls at reception were very friendly. Overall, we paid premium price but did not receive premium accomodation. It seems that the resort is taking advantage of the fact that everyone is eager to get out after restrictions have lifted. Their prices have gone up, which normally would not bother us to pay, but their standards and quality of service, etc... has gone down. They are doing everything as cheaply as they can but charging more for it. $1000 paid for two nights away is not a problem normally. We felt we were definitely being overcharged for what we experienced. Have stayed in much larger spa suites and been charged less. Not sure we would stay again. Not at the prices being charged at the moment.

The location is great, right at the entrance to the national park, and there is a shuttle station right out front to take you into the cradle mountain walks. The staff are very helpful and friendly from reception to the bar and restaurants. There are plenty of short walks around to keep you occupied as there is no wi-fi or TV in the room (which is a good thing if its not raining). The rooms are pleasant with a fireplace inside, but pretty basic if you compare to other luxury stays - the outside parks are the main attraction here. The restaurant serves good buffet breakfast and coffee, and at night turns into a fine dining restaurant. Overall, its the best place to stay so close to Cradle Mountain, however that comes at an expensive price point/ value.

My partner booked the Cabin Suite for us which costed $420 a night (we stayed 2 nights). There was no tv, which is understandable but still should be an option. We didn’t get our “arrival gift” and there was no house-keeping done at all.
The restaurant was very over priced and we paid $18 for a basic garlic pizza, $19 for a margarita pizza. First night they were extremely busy and we were put on a very wobbly table and when asking the waitress about it she gave us a bunch of napkins and left. The 2nd night was much nicer and I Thank the chef so much for wishing me a happy birthday on my dessert. Yes it’s a beautiful location but if you’re paying that much a night they should really make it more worth it.

The lodge itself is in a lovely setting. The Highland Restaurant is good. The food in the Bistro has a wider choice. The staff are pleasant but not well trained. Breakfast ends at 10am, at 9:30am there was a reluctance to replenish in each of our four days.

The cabins are the standard of a 3 Star Motel. Again staff are poorly trained. Our wet towels which we placed over the bathroom door to dry were neatly folded and placed over the rack and the wet floor mat was placed on top over the towels !!

The Contemporary Spa Cab that we stayed in was $731 per night. That is simply just outrageously expensive. They are worth $150 Motel rates.

I booked this hotel without a second thought because it was a Peppers, yes the position is second to none, you are truly in the middle of the national park with nature at your doorstep, I don’t think you can beat it and because of this reason my review cannot be harsher.
But in terms of quality, the luxury of the “peppers brand” and service, nope this did not stack up, three stars at best!
The rooms are average they could definitely be updated, the bathrooms?! That shower head?! These room was $600 per night not a budget price! we stayed at the pine cabins. No complimentary water, nothing in the mini fridge NOTHING. Really? It’s a national park where at the most minimum people go for walks, so complimentary water should be a standard?
The breakfast at the Highland restaurant was ok, but always understaffed, the common room where reception is could have some board games for families, could be more welcoming, offer in some drink facilities tea, hot water yes covid but other hotels are offering this and more with covid safety regulations in place.
And the food at Tavern and Bistro I will not even bother to mention apart from unless you are craving FATTY carby food don’t eat there.
Sorry this review isn’t great, it has been three weeks since we were there and I still feel this way. Cradle mountain is amazing!! The position of the lodge is amazing, we really had a wonderful time there but unless you want to stay in the Middle of the national park, explore your options of accomodation because I’m sure there is better at that price.

Dear Bell, Thank you for your review and valued feed back I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your time at cradle Mountain lake St Clair national park and that you appreciated being in the middle of the national park where the wildlife is at large and the purity of air can be felt in every breath. Here at peppers the brand focuses on iconic locations and we consider ourselves lucky to be situated like so, during this covid time we have faced some challenges for what we can put out for use for our guests and what we can't such as board games to take to cabins and a hot cup of spiced cider as our welcome drink upon check in. I sincerely apologize for the lack of service at breakfast, but we will definitely work towards your suggestions of healthier options to provide at the tavern. Its thanks to passionate guests like your self that have always motivated us to push towards excellence and fantastic service. We would like to welcome you again in the future and rectify your previous experience. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly for any further correspondence. Thank you again for your valued feedback and apologies for your disappointing experience. Warm Regards Avishkar Gole (avishkar.gole@peppers.com.au) Front Office Manager

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in a contemporary chalet with spa bath with the Taste of Tasmania Package which included entry for 2 to Devils@cradle, cheese platter and champagne (which was fantastic) and the upgrade from the Pencil Pine Chalet.
Plenty of room inside the chalet, gas heater, loads of storage, robes, slippers, Toiletries and bath salts (for when you need to soak in the bath after a hard days walking or not), mini fridge, tea, coffee, kettle, milk, all in a secluded spot amongst nature. A short walk to the lodge to the Tavern and Restaurant through nature.
Everything was great, only I found the bed to be not very comfortable.
Uma at reception was so friendly as well as professional and simply a delightful person.
Breakfast was in the restaurant, beautiful setting, service was great however I found my choice not so good. I ordered the corn fritter stack expecting to get fritters made with corn and perhaps other vegetables, instead got 4 little pancakes (must be made with cornflour) a wedge of tomato and a handful of spinach with a smear of aoli. The next morning I ordered the vegan breakfast with an egg which was OK.
A truly magnificent place to reconnect with nature. Strolling, walking, hiking and plenty of wildlife encounters and then relaxing with a drink and enjoying a delicious meal in the tavern.
Totally indulged in all on offer and had the most wonderful time away and reconnecting with nature. Cradle Mountain is an awesome and very special place.

ACCOR purchased this property and the deep pockets are required to upgrade + maintain a property of this scale.
The upgraded King Billy suites are an absolute hit; but with only two completed in the past 15-Months, it will take some time before many more of these quality offerings will become available. This is not your every day holiday and purists enjoying nature in all its glory are the winners. Since this property only just opened after the compulsory lock down, it was a miracle the service levels were as high as we experienced.
We will certainly be back!

I think the sign of a good stay is when you return home, you wish you had of booked an extra night or two. This has just occurred after visiting Cradle Mountain Lodge for two nights. From the moment Avi very patiently checked us in until Nina waved us goodbye, we had the most wonderful time.

Michaela in the Spa was exceptional at communicating with us and very professionally dealt with a maintenance issue that prevented us from utilising The Sanctuary on the day we initially booked.

Our Spa Cabin was located as far from the lodge as possible and we LOVED it - we felt like we were the only people staying on the property, there was plenty of wood for the fire and it was very well maintained and cleaned.

India looked after us very well on both of our dining experiences in Highlands Restaurant where the food and wine list were both very good indeed.

Also, the friendly young Nepalese man behind the bar in the Tavern was a delight (his name escapes us) and nothing was too much trouble for him.

There were peaceful walks that departed from the Lodge and getting into the National Park was very easy as a bus stop was three minutes walk up the road.

A special thank you to Nina, Nikita and Kirsty who were very generous with their time and the definition of natural hosts. We thought this would be a one time only visit but we cannot wait to return based on the genuine and relaxed service we received.

I didn't drive that route as we came from Hobart and Strahan then to Cradle Mountain Lodge. It is about 2 hrs drive though and if there is alot of snow roads will be closed bes t to check online for weather reports closer to travel dates. If you haven't already booked and paid I would look at other nearby accommodation as this place is tired and poorly run and certainly not worth the high price. Instead try Cradle Mountain Wilderness Village or other resort close by. Wipers are left up so they don't freeze onto the windscreen and the glass is easier to scrape off then with ice.

There is a shuttle bus stop a short walk from the hotel, it is not the main stop so you do have to at some point visit the visitor centre and get your (free) tickets for the bus, they then ask how many days you are staying and will give you bus tickets for the number of days, so subsequent days you don't have to return to the visitor centre. We drove to the visitor centre and left our car parked there and got on the bus from the visitor centre there and back. It was easy enough.
