Detailed Reviews
Stayed for two nights rooms are small but clean and comfortable, the gas log fire worked very well. Its really a peaceful place overlooking the lake. Theres a kettle and small fridge, with coffee and tea bags, no cooking gear or toaster, there was a small coffee plunger which was great as we brought our fav grd coffee. The Restaurant wasnt running fully during our stay only the cafe, we had the special beef stew one night which was great and the soup the following night(also great) also had a vegan pizza (not great) and a chicken burger (also not great), drinks are pricey so buy wine/beer on the way.

We stayed two nights in one of the Lodge's deluxe lakeside studio cabins. All of the accommodation sits back from the lake partially hidden by trees. Our cabin had a cosy gas fire and plenty of space to spread out and relax. The room included a dining space, comfortable armchairs and a huge bed.
The only negative for us was the lack of cooking facilities in the cabin. Instead, we had to use the nearby camp kitchen for cooking. The kitchen was a typical 'rough and ready' backpacker hangout which totally defeated the purpose of booking an expense deluxe cabin. In hindsight, we should have spent a few more dollars and booked a room at nearby Pumphouse Point.
Lake St Claire itself is awesome. Absolutely stunning wilderness. We even saw a platypus frolicking in the lake one afternoon near the aptly named Platypus Bay.

We have no regrets regarding our stay in a wilderness cabin at Lake St Clair Lodge - the location is unbeatable - but it could have been so much more. Friendly check-in, toiletries in the room and a more than average dining experience would have helped. Main meals in the restaurant are very average for $40 while $7 for a long black in the cafe is absurd! This place is nowhere near remote enough to justify these prices and mediocre service. Whoever runs this place doesn't deserve the licence to operate here if this is the best they can do. Our room was modern and clean so no complaints there, but with a little effort this could be a world class destination.

After paying a premium price, we expected a premium service but it was sadly below average. The fridge in our room was extremely loud and kept me up half the night. The staff at the counter were not welcoming or helpful. The king size bed was very comfortable and we did enjoy using the spa in our room but apart from those two good points, I can't really say it was worth the over $400 a night room fee, I'm not even sure exactly what I paid for. The complimentary breakfast was very basic... and the meal at the restaurant was fine dining price - without the fine dining quality. The Derwent hotel just down the road however, had beautiful pub meals at a fraction of the price. We won't be back to the lodge. Beautiful scenery, but we just felt it was a bit wanky for our liking. After we spent two nights here we did an overnight hike the next day but got back too late to use the shower at the visitor center, so we asked if we could pay to use the camp grounds shower and were declined. Very disappointing, considering we'd just spent all that money on two nights accommodation with them and they wouldn't even 'let' us buy a shower!

We have just spent two nights in a lakeside cabin at The Lake St Clair Lodge and we loved it. After reading other reviews prior to our visit we definitely had some concerns but from the moment we walked into our cabin those same concerns were swept away.
The cabin was spacious, well equipped and very cosy, thanks to the very efficient gas fire. The king-size bed was beautifully comfortable and all of the linens were high quality. The water pressure was never a problem, even when filling the spa bath.
We had booked a cabin with a lake view through Booking.com and this is exactly what we got. The view of the lake is partially obscured by trees but I imagine that is to provide privacy and also to protect the bank of the lake from erosion. We could still enjoy the beauty of the lake from our balcony.
We really enjoyed the facilities provided by the lodge. The restaurant was pricey but the food was good, I'd recommend that you book a table for dinner because they can be very busy, especially when they have a large group coming in from walking the Overland Track. The staff working at the lodge were all very pleasant and helpful, even when busy.
The proximity of the lodge to the walking tracks and the ferry to Echo Point and Narcissus Bay is perfect.
I'd happily stay there again.

Stayed for three nights in a cabin (two couples) in mid-February 2020. The location is spectacular. great walking and sightseeing all around. Some of us had stayed here a few years ago, more than once.
The staff were, without exception, excellent and doing their doing their best in difficult circumstances. The problem appears to be with the overall management and value proposition.
The price (AUD$1,500+ for three nights for cabin and breakfast for 4) was far in excess of what is offered. The cabins, although comfortable, really need some care, attention and an update into the 21st century.
Our cabin, for instance, had mosquito/fly netting that had gaps under the frames - so were useless to keep insects out. Lighting was poor throughout. Fans didn't work etc. The TV didn't work and was stuck on a screen broadcast some 15 days previously (obviously management can't be bothered, or have decided not, to pay for a feed that works). I had to bang a sharp protruding floor nail in beside the bed having caught my foot on it .... The kitchen was poorly equipped, added to which the Lodge menu prices were outrageous (a plate of gnocchi at $39, chicken fillet $45, Tasmanian salmon $42, roasted vegetable stack at $38, Seasonal Side Salad $14 etc.). This is not Michelin star place. The breakfast is basic, along the lines of an aspirational 2 star European hotel, and if you want a decent coffee (i.e. not instant) you are asked to pay extra.
We ended up eating dinner at the Derwent Bridge hotel along the road. It appeared we were there with the majority of the other St Clair Lodge guests.
We'll certainly return to Lake St Clair, but not to stay here.

We stayed in a luxurious cabin over the xmas period, the cabins are clean and immaculate, with a fire place that heats the room up in minutes. The view of the lake and surrounding bush is also stunning, with wild life to view throughout the whole location.
The hosts were more than hospitable, and the organic food on offer was delicious. If you get the chance to spin a yarn with the owners I would highly recommended it. The staff were more thank attentive and polite.
I would highly recommend staying here for some rest and relaxation.

We booked the more expensive lakeside cabin rather than a wilderness one expecting something good for the $365 p/night price tag.
What we got was a cabin (Number 41) next to the camper’s amenities block and across from the powered camping sites. The only view of the lake was a distant one from the balcony.
Inside the cabin, the best thing about it was the stylish clean bathroom. The kitchenette was basic, Kettle, sink and frig. No toaster or wine glasses. Found one channel on TV. No internet either, although with Telstra we got reception in lodge and on walks.
Complained to reception about cabin. No management on site to address issue however. Reception handled by kitchen staff from 5pm. When we did speak to reception we were told that we weren’t the first guests to complain about the cabin and if he was a guest he would be complaining too!! Told we could upgrade our cabin for an extra $30 a night but declined.
Breakfast is included in price but is limited to one drink choice and one food choice. So no juice and coffee.
They got breakfast order wrong but couldn’t be bothered sending it back.
We had dinner at the Derwent Bridge pub - tasty Sri Lankan curry.
Roads through park are unsealed with no lighting at night. Bring your torch or phone.
Location is the best thing about this place - surrounded by wilderness walking trails.
The place has a holiday park vibe with a mix of cabins and camping sites. For the same price at Cradle Mountain we were treated to an amazing luxury cabin - spa bath, full kitchenette and log gas fire. Like chalk and cheese.

The location is brilliant, the rooms superb but this place is an embarrassment to the Tasmanian tourism industry. Clearly run by bean counters who think it acceptable to understaff the business, fail to train staff and serve overpriced substandard food including imported Chinese preserved fruit at breakfast inconsistent with the marketing spin which states “enjoy world class cuisine of fine local produce ....”. Ran out of food, bowls and utensils at breakfast. A shambolic operation.

Let's talk about the staff first, they are not welcoming and smiling when you are coming for a lunch after a long track around the St Clair Lake. It's overprice for anything, 6$ for a small coffee, 14$ for a pint of beer on the tap, 10,5$ for a scooner.
Don't try to pay by cash, the staff can't give you 2,5$ back.
For a 50$ lunch for 2 people, the WIFI is not include even if you can clearly see the WIFI device on the wall.
The explanation of that from the front office staff is that they not giving WIFI to their guests even for expensive rates.
My advice to you is to pass your way to the next closest place where the guests services will be more considerate.

Sorry Hobartgirl but we stayed on the campsite in a campervan so wouldn't know about that.
Hi, there is no wifi. However, if you have a Telstra mobile phone you will be able to access the internet on your 3G or 4G device.
