Henlow was very poor this time compared to my previous visits (we have been coming to Champneys for 25 years, both Tring and Henlow). Some trips have been very good and some have not. This year was a disappointment, while we are all aware that the hospitality industry is suffering and we make allowances, I felt that the customer was uninformed and had to work out for themselves that Champneys was clearly short staffed and had a lot of new staff. The lunches, which used to be buffet are now table service which is understandable, however we were here 3 days and the menu was the same every day. If we had been informed on booking of the situation and offered some small compensation (eg free coffees) we would have been less disappointed. Champneys also used to provide free coffee and tea after dinner, but that didn’t happen this time. There is now a supplement payable for more and more food eg for Vegetables at dinner (which are needed) and even a £5 supplement for a small chocolate pudding. Often areas were unmanned with no notice to say why . I had to return a few times on occasion to book an activity at the fitness reception and on paying my bill I had to go looking for someone. Breakfast was much more limited than on previous visits. The food was generally disappointing. Housekeeping also wasn’t as thorough; our floor was not properly cleaned . Found hairs and leaves on floor after cleaning .

Visited last weekend for 2 night stay and it was simply fabulous. Stayed in the Princess suite which was just lovely. Had a massage, facial and pedicures booked which were fabulous. Food amazing and nice touch getting a glass of champagne in the evening. We used the spa facilities everyday and hired bikes as well! Weather was sunny which made it better to sit outside. All the staff were lovely and very helpful. We left totally relaxed and can highly recommend going. We will be back .

Would not recommend, the place needs a serious overhaul from cleanliness, poor quality food, dismissive staff and management. Not worth the £400 cost. Expected more from champneys my only advice would be to avoid to save disappointment. Raised issues at the time when at the location and was told to fill out feedback form after checkout which would be received via email. Raised further complaint through hotel and yet to have a response, been over a month. Wonder if I will receive a response here?

We recently spent 2 nights at Tring to celebrate my husband's 75th birthday. Some aspects were very good - the beautifully kept grounds, enjoyable classes and some of the meals. But too much showed lack of management or care for the guests. The phone in the room didn't work so we had to walk ( over 600 steps there and back ) to reception every time we needed to sort anything out. No instructions on the safe, lack of full instructions to get connected to the room internet. Plus the phone was not sorted by the time we left despite reporting it 3 times . Worse of all - when leaving I noticed I had been charged £3.00 to book a class which I shouldn't have been charged for. The receptionist went to speak to someone and came back to say it will be sorted. Guess what? The money was taken from my account and despite trying to phone reception, no one answers. Only a small amount of money but reflects Champney Trings attitude to customer service and lack of effective management . We will go to Champneys again but not Tring. Very disappointing.

This place has so much potential, but too many poor aspects let it down very badly. Some of the staff are a wonderful asset to the company (night reception guy was so helpful), young guy on reception at check in, restaurant manager, but, when things go wrong (over 40 minute wait for coffee at breakfast yet requested 4 times from 2 staff - manager sorted it immediately, but far too many guests had the same issue. Items were sparse at breakfast at 9am and took forever to replenish if at all. I needed to check something about my booking by phone before I travelled but it was impossible as nobody answers the phone. Emails remain unanswered for days without a response. The corridor to my room smelt strongly of cigarettes presumably from smoking guests (the people in the room next to mine) returning. There was an assortment of dead insects and barely alive spiders caught in my windows and lots of very large daddy long legs spotted in numerous locations. I liked the location but felt most unsafe as a solo female going to my car late one evening to retrieve an item left in the car. Car parking is confusing and I struggled to locate my car after check out (along with several others). Hugely frustrating.
