We arrived at the hotel a little early, but there was no problem checking in. (However, it took my husband a while to get the car into the car park, because there were ponies standing around asleep!) Our room was right at the top of the building (lots of stairs, no lift), but worth it for the view of Palace House and the Millpond; it had three windows facing different ways. There was a birthday card for me from the hotel, and they were very welcoming. There are lovely pictures of trees and leaves in the public rooms, and in our room too. The carpets feature local wildlife such as ponies, deer, sheep and pigs.
We were celebrating my birthday weekend with our family. We started with drinks in the lounge; I ordered my all-time favourite (a champagne cocktail) which was made just as it should be, and once I started on it the world acquired a pleasing rosy glow. We had a range of starters including prawn cocktail for me and whitebait for my husband; then I had a ‘wholesome salad’ (!), others chose the pie of the day, and my sons and grandson shared a large ribeye steak which was claimed to weigh a kilo. The waiters were lovely, with just the right balance of wittiness and politeness; so nice not to be addressed as ‘You guys’.
Breakfast was good as expected, with the apricots in orange syrup a stand-out. I had a ‘small’ English breakfast, ie four cooked items, and my husband and son had eggs benedict.
For our second dinner there were a couple of small issues; we received complimentary bread the previous night, but the second evening we were charged for it. ‘We are merging the kitchens’ – how does this affect the provision of bread? Also, the prawn and avocado cocktail didn’t contain any avocado. However, we both enjoyed the caramelised shallot tart. This is certainly not ‘fast food’, so be prepared for a leisurely dinner.
A couple of other comments; the two stairs up to our room (Rm 31) would benefit from a handrail. And the signage to the car park; oh dear…! My son drove around twice trying to find it, as there is sign saying ‘no cars beyond this point’, implying that you can’t actually access the car park!
When we left a young man came up very promptly on request to carry our cases downstairs; thanks to him too. Old codgers struggling down flights of stairs with cases is not a good look.
A final note: thank you for the pad of ‘proper’ notepaper in the room – always one of my criteria for a good hotel. I used it to make notes and to write a handwritten letter. We look forward to returning.

a favourite place of ours to visit for years and although we now live only 20 miles away we wanted an overnight stay with dinner as a treat having had 2 lots of friends stay this year and they both loved it
We knew the Hazel room as friends had stayed in the summer and we visited it during their stay and I thought this is a lovely large open plan room with sitting room with huge bathroom with bath tub
Every little detail is considered with lovely bonus extras like a small bottle of slow gin and even a mini christmas tree in the room as it was early december
the towels and dressing gown are lovely and soft and toiletries are all by the while company which are lovely products.
Heavy well made curtains provide warm and privacy while the chunky metal bedside lights look like they are from Andrew Martin. All the plug sockets are stainless steel and all immaculately clean.
We had a blissful nights sleep and a wonderful breakfast with melon, yoghurt, latte and smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on toast overlooking the courtyard garden with water feature. Perfection and feels like such a treat and special place with ample parking including electric charger parking to the rear of the hotel

We booked a snug room for three nights and got a discounted offer by registering with the hotel directly. Prior to our arrival we were contacted by the hotel and offered an upgrade to one of their feature rooms for a small extra charge. We accepted this and on arrival the room exceeded our expectations. It was room 31 on the second floor - airy and light with a large comfy king size bed, a choice of soft or firm pillow and a gorgeous squishy velvet sofa with a coffee table. The bathroom was large and spotless with a separate bath and walk in shower and marble tiling.
We arrived a little early and parked at the front of the hotel to offload our luggage (it's better to do this if staying in the main building as it's a long walk through the gardens from the car park). The receptionist helpfully took all our luggage to care for until the room was ready and we were allowed to park in the hotel car park at the rear of the building before going to explore Beaulieu village. When we returned our luggage was all ready in the room for us and there were complementary delicious flapjacks to have with our tea.
The breakfast staff were warm and welcoming, there was a wide selection of cold choices: cereals, yoghurts, compote, dried and fresh fruits, croissants, cold meats and cheeses. The coffee was great (served in a cafetière as we have ours black). The cooked options were varied and interesting and very tasty when they arrived. We sampled a few items during our three days there and they were all good.
One afternoon I had a cream tea. They serve a generous pot of leaf tea with a strainer, with delicate China cup and saucer, one fruit and one plain scone, a generous pot of clotted cream and the most delicious strawberry jam ever! As the weather was warm and sunny I sat at a table on the terrace but there was also a conservatory and a lounge where we could have sat. The gardens are colourful and beautifully designed with a central fountain which the birds drink from and splash about in.
We ate in Monty's bar the first night. I had the ravioli which was delicious and just the right size portion for me. My husband had the sausages and mash with greens which were very generous portions and full of flavour.
On our last night we experienced the fine dining in the terrace restaurant. The menu was varied. The food was beautifully prepared and presented and the flavours did not disappoint. The sommelier recommended a particular glass of wine to go with my halibut and mussels which was a perfect pairing as was the carafe of red to accompany my husbands beef fillet. Our only regret was that the starter and main were so satisfying that we couldn't even think of trying a desert!
Overall we found all the staff to be warm, welcoming and so very attentive and helpful. Nothing seemed to be too much bother and the staff at reception always greeted us by name. We are already recommending this hotel to our friends and family.

Montagu Arms is a very well run hotel in the village of Beaulieu (pronounced "bee-lay" by the locals). The original part of the building is 200 years old and the charming interior has been carefully redecorated. Our room was in a building in the beautiful garden behind the hotel that was once a "barn" perhaps? The hotel refers to these rooms as a courtyard suite and they have been beautifully done, excellent furnishing, large bathroom with separate tub and shower. Staff is excellent as are their restaurants where we had both dinner and breakfasts. Our only complaint has nothing to do with the hotel but with transportation (we arrived via train in Brockenhurst). We wanted to visit Exbury Gardens and the taxi had to come from some distance and it cost 24£ to get there. The National Car Museum is closer but then there was no easy transportation no easy walking route to get there so we skipped it.

This was our first visit to the Montagu Arm Hotel during the summer. We regularly visit for short stays out of season. This hotel has been our preferred choice for several years. The hotel is well placed to explore the treasures of the New Forest and coast which is a short drive away. We have always found the staff so friendly and helpful. Where a matter is brought to their notice requiring action, it is dealt with quickly and with a smile. We again found the staff friendly, helpful and comforting to see their careers progressing in the hotel. The garden areas are so very nicely maintained making the patio area a delightful location to sit and eat breakfast, a midday snack or just relax with a drink, chat or just listen to the birds singing. Breakfast selection is good with either the continental or cooked breakfast options all delicious. The hotel and its grounds have a relaxing ambience. We ate in Monty's. the restaurant/pub attached to the hotel which is another great option. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Secure off road car parking is easily accessible. We look forward to our next visit. Thank you Montagu Arms Hotel for another lovely relaxing break.

Enjoyed a delightful 2 night stay at the end of last week. We originally booked a "Feature Room" but were offered a very reasonably priced upgrade to a "Hayloft Suite" at the time of check in, which we duly accepted.
Hayloft room is extremely spacious, with a lovely setting at the back of the hotel's garden. High quality fixtures and very comfortable.
The general ambiance is very relaxing, with the high quality, friendly service being examplary throughout our stay, both in the hotel and when dining in the hotel's two restaurants; Terrace & Monty's.
Pricing, including meals is towards the "top end" reflecting a premium experience in a lovely location. Would definitely stay again and happy to recommend.

We stayed in the Hayloft Barn which is separate from the main hotel the other side of the lovely gardens. Our room was great with a heated bathroom and air con. Staff replenished the room consumables on a daily basis and we felt well looked after. We had dinner once in the main terrace restaurant which was great food and pleasant enough but we preferred the relaxed atmosphere of Monty's and ate there often.
The location is ideal for walks and we went on many and explored the surrounding area. The gardens are beautiful and the head gardener Matt, could not be more accommodating with our many questions and freely offered advice and tips. He is very proud of his creations and visions for the future, and is a real gem if you get a chance to speak to him. We look forward to returning again.

We stayed one night here and had a great experience. Staff were very accomodating and friendly. We came to cycle around the new forest and staff voluntarily helped us store our bikes safely. The hotel is twinned with the Carey Manor Spa and we went for a swim there in the afternoon for free, booking a lane with reception. Breakfast outside in the garden in the sun was welcome surprise and we enjoyed eating at the attached Inn in the evening. Nice atmosphere, menu and ale choice. Service was great (thanks to Ollie, Lisa, Harry B, Brad and Jasper). Lovely couple weekend away without the kids, we will be back.

We stayed in Hayloft 1, situated amongst the attractive garden and, whilst we didn't use the mezzanine floor much, the main room was very nice indeed. Importantly, the room had air conditioning during May's hot spell, and we found this was both very effective and very quiet. The bathroom was very special: large and well equipped, with both a big bath and an even bigger shower. We ate one night in the fine dining restaurant and, although it was quite expensive, it was well worth the money. The breakfasts were good, too, with an extensive choice of hot and cold options. Free water in the room and a bottle on departure were welcome touches. The staff were friendly and efficient. There was enough parking to just about accommodate all the guests' cars whilst the hotel was full during half term week. We will definitely stay there again: 5 stars all round!
