Our room was a lovely sunny room that had stunning views out across the frost encrusted morning forest with the lovely ponies grazing in the morning sun.
All of the staff were worthy of individual mention but two in particular stood out to us - both were working in the restaurant. One was Katherine and the other Hollie (sorry I don't know your surnames ladies if you ever read this). Both were very pleasant and happy to give advice on what meals were particularly enjoyable and ones that they had sampled themselves. They took an interest in what we were doing during our time with them and offered help with local attractions. Both were obviously well trained and a credit to the establishment.
This is a very friendly hotel/restaurant. It caters for dogs and even does a Sunday roast for them (who knew?). Doggy blankets are available and doggy bowls for use in the bar when the doggy parents are enjoying their drinks!
The meals we had were excellent and a credit to the kitchen staff. The full breakfast was tasty, well cooked and not at all greasy as can be the case sometimes. There was a good selection of items on my plate including black pudding, hash browns, mushrooms, fresh tomato, eggs, bacon, sausage, etc. Another morning I had the poached eggs and smoked salmon on sourdough bread with avocado. The eggs were done just right and I thoroughly enjoyed this different breakfast option. Interestingly they also offer small breakfasts for children or adults with smaller appetites. There was also toast, fresh fruit and cereals on offer with croissants etc. also on the continental breakfast spread.
Whilst at the White Mouse I had the turkey roast with the most ginormous Yorkies that you've ever seen, the Beef Lasagne with garlic bread and the slow cooked pork belly with parsnip mash and parsnip crisps were wonderful. I'm not a lover of desserts so I can't really comment about them but I did enjoy my starters of garlic mushrooms on a sourdough crumpet and crab salad starter with lemon dressing.
During the time we were there we witnessed staff going above and beyond for a number of people - some guests and some not - in a way that was heart warming and must certainly bring greater footfall to the hotel.
In short we won't hesitate to spend time at the White Rabbit in the future and we've already started talking about our next visit this spring.

After this, on looking around the room we found it hadn't been cleaned properly. The glasses had greasy fingerprints, there was a lot of hair on the carpet, the mirrors had dried water marks and finger marks and the pot that holds the coffee and sugar sticks had dried coffee stains in it along with a few coins. I'm not much of a complainer but when I found used sanitary products in the bathroom bin I went back to reception to let them know about everything and asked them to fix it. The gentleman at reception said something about their housekeeping troubles, that the other staff members were on their break and that he would go to our room and deal with it himself as soon as break time was over. We went out for a while and asked at reception when we returned whether it had been fixed. According to the gentleman at reception, it had.
It had not. The bin had been emptied and a wet cloth had been rubbed on two of the three mirrors, removing the marks but leaving it dirtier than before and that was all. I ended up cleaning the room myself and it was even dirtier than it had appeared. I pulled strings of slimy hair from the bath and basin, washed the bathroom floor and brushed hair off the carpet with a hair brush. The edges of the carpet were thick with dust and all the high and low surfaces were as well. In addition to the dirtiness of the room, the amenities hadn't been replenished. There was much, much less than half a container of shower gel, one tea bag and maybe as much as ten sheets left on the loo roll that was on the holder.
The housekeeper could have cleaned the room but didn't, they made the beds then did as little as possible after that. The room could have been checked by someone else before guests arrived but it wasn't and efforts could have been made to rectify issues once they were brought to the attention of the staff but they weren't.
Based upon the demonstrated standards of cleanliness, we didn't have dinner there that evening or breakfast the following morning. To be perfectly honest, we couldn't get out of there fast enough.
The rooms are no frills but it did the job perfectly, and it was made all the better by the lovely staff.
The member of staff on reception was helpful at check in. Arrived after dark and both the parking area and the ramped path leading up to the hotel were very poorly lit. Was surprised to see other customers using their phones as torches as they were leaving while we were arriving. It is really dark outside.
Booked several weeks ago, and was looking for a convenient place to stay for Brockenhurst. Wasn’t too pleased to find that we could have booked yesterday for much less than we have actually paid.
Asked about breakfast on arrival to find that all the early breakfast ‘slots’ were unavailable, so won’t be eating here at all. TBH, I’ve never stayed in a hotel where we basically couldn’t be fitted in for breakfast.
Not impresssed.
