The White Rabbit Hotel garners mixed reviews, with guests commending the cleanliness and applauding the staff's excellent service. While the atmosphere and rooms are described as needing a refresh and some modern touches, many guests find solace in the hotel's amenities, like the peaceful rooms and good food. However, some travelers point out that the value proposition is lacking, as the rooms fall short in amenities and upkeep, affecting the overall experience.

This is the second time we have stayed here. The location is great for access to the town and the Forest, as well as other options of places to eat. On this occasion we had a room at the far end of the hotel which was very spacious including a large seating area with views across the New Forest. The only complaint is the size of the bed which was a standard double. When we booked we had expected a king bed and given there was plenty of space for it in the room, we do not understand why hotels do not make the most of this offering. When you are used to a larger bed if really adversely affects sleep to revert back to a double and it will definitely make us think twice about booking here again. Such a shame as everything else was really good.

The staff at this hotel are amazing, so friendly, helpful and professional and made us feel so welcome. The location is perfect for exploring the nearby area and New Forest. The restaurant is lovely and the food in the evening and at breakfast was great quality and reasonably priced. The room was nice and quiet and the bed was very comfy. The only reason I didn’t rate it five stars is that the room decor is a bit shabby and the bathroom was tiny and again could do with refurbishing. Other than that a very enjoyable stay.

The relatively new manager and his staff could not have been more welcoming or helpful but there was nothing they could do about the room. Try to avoid room 8. The old wooden window frames are dirty and badly fitting and there is no A/C in the room so we wanted to leave the windows open but there was a large heat extractor outside our window which ran noisily all night. There is no task lighting only a large overhead unit with four bulbs only three of which were working. The light in the bathroom over the mirror had a broken bulb and a snapped pull cord. This is basic maintenance which is a separate issue to the investment needed to replace the tired furnishings, holes in the walls etc. The bar is a big space, the car park very big and its a great location but there are half a dozen B&Bs across the road which might offer more for the £108 we paid. Unlikely to return until they sort out the rooms.

Dear Sir, Thank you so much with regard to your positive comments! With regard to the room, I did speak to housekeeping who were very understaffed that week and since your stay Room 8 has undergone a full deep clean procedure which I'm pleased to say passed with our hotel auditor who has inspected the property since. As to the maintenance, as I explained when you informed me at checkout, I was unaware these issues existed and I'm pleased to say that the internal issues were fixed later that day. The noise at night was a compressor for our cellar, and again, this has since been maintained to solve the noise issue. There is a significant cash investment earmarked for renovation of some of our rooms later this year, so I do hope you'll contact us in the future if planning to stay in Lyndhurst so we can update you on this and host you in more welcoming conditions! Best regards, Kevin, General Manager

We have just returned home from an extended weekend break at the White Rabbit. Everything about our stay was positive from the weather (which we appreciate isn't down to Greene King) to the food.
Our room was a lovely sunny room that had stunning views out across the frost encrusted morning forest with the lovely ponies grazing in the morning sun.
All of the staff were worthy of individual mention but two in particular stood out to us - both were working in the restaurant. One was Katherine and the other Hollie (sorry I don't know your surnames ladies if you ever read this). Both were very pleasant and happy to give advice on what meals were particularly enjoyable and ones that they had sampled themselves. They took an interest in what we were doing during our time with them and offered help with local attractions. Both were obviously well trained and a credit to the establishment.
This is a very friendly hotel/restaurant. It caters for dogs and even does a Sunday roast for them (who knew?). Doggy blankets are available and doggy bowls for use in the bar when the doggy parents are enjoying their drinks!
The meals we had were excellent and a credit to the kitchen staff. The full breakfast was tasty, well cooked and not at all greasy as can be the case sometimes. There was a good selection of items on my plate including black pudding, hash browns, mushrooms, fresh tomato, eggs, bacon, sausage, etc. Another morning I had the poached eggs and smoked salmon on sourdough bread with avocado. The eggs were done just right and I thoroughly enjoyed this different breakfast option. Interestingly they also offer small breakfasts for children or adults with smaller appetites. There was also toast, fresh fruit and cereals on offer with croissants etc. also on the continental breakfast spread.
Whilst at the White Mouse I had the turkey roast with the most ginormous Yorkies that you've ever seen, the Beef Lasagne with garlic bread and the slow cooked pork belly with parsnip mash and parsnip crisps were wonderful. I'm not a lover of desserts so I can't really comment about them but I did enjoy my starters of garlic mushrooms on a sourdough crumpet and crab salad starter with lemon dressing.
During the time we were there we witnessed staff going above and beyond for a number of people - some guests and some not - in a way that was heart warming and must certainly bring greater footfall to the hotel.
In short we won't hesitate to spend time at the White Rabbit in the future and we've already started talking about our next visit this spring.

Spent 3 nights here whilst working in the area, good job I’m pretty active as the room was up and down more stairs than any other hotel I’ve visited, the room was small and pokey with the only windows opening straight onto the kitchen extractor vents, the TV remote was missing and when I did get one I was given a remote with only one battery. The only lights in the room that worked are the bathroom light so to be able to see you had to have the bathroom light on and top it off, I came back to my room late, found the toilet to be blocked and when I called the night porter ( who was less than useless) I was told that there’s nothing that could be done, and I’d have to wait till morning! Not even an offer of a plunger or even a toilet brush. Wouldn’t recommend staying here.

I booked one night in a double room with evening meal and breakfast the following morning. When we arrived we checked the details on the form where it said twin room. On questioning, the gentleman at reception stated the room can be either and was set up for us as a double. When we arrived it was twin beds so my partner went back to reception to ask them to rectify it. We were given bedding to change the bed to being double ourselves.
After this, on looking around the room we found it hadn't been cleaned properly. The glasses had greasy fingerprints, there was a lot of hair on the carpet, the mirrors had dried water marks and finger marks and the pot that holds the coffee and sugar sticks had dried coffee stains in it along with a few coins. I'm not much of a complainer but when I found used sanitary products in the bathroom bin I went back to reception to let them know about everything and asked them to fix it. The gentleman at reception said something about their housekeeping troubles, that the other staff members were on their break and that he would go to our room and deal with it himself as soon as break time was over. We went out for a while and asked at reception when we returned whether it had been fixed. According to the gentleman at reception, it had.
It had not. The bin had been emptied and a wet cloth had been rubbed on two of the three mirrors, removing the marks but leaving it dirtier than before and that was all. I ended up cleaning the room myself and it was even dirtier than it had appeared. I pulled strings of slimy hair from the bath and basin, washed the bathroom floor and brushed hair off the carpet with a hair brush. The edges of the carpet were thick with dust and all the high and low surfaces were as well. In addition to the dirtiness of the room, the amenities hadn't been replenished. There was much, much less than half a container of shower gel, one tea bag and maybe as much as ten sheets left on the loo roll that was on the holder.
The housekeeper could have cleaned the room but didn't, they made the beds then did as little as possible after that. The room could have been checked by someone else before guests arrived but it wasn't and efforts could have been made to rectify issues once they were brought to the attention of the staff but they weren't.
Based upon the demonstrated standards of cleanliness, we didn't have dinner there that evening or breakfast the following morning. To be perfectly honest, we couldn't get out of there fast enough.

My partner and I went into the White Rabbit last Saturday for lunch. We were warmly greeted and shown to a table. It was extremely quiet. We ordered food and drinks. However, when my partner's pint arrived, it tasted of cleaning fluid and he promptly returned it. I ordered beef lasagne which had to be the worst I have ever tasted. It was bland and tasteless. It was topped by undercooked white sauce of some description; there were no peppers, mushrooms or tomato sauce. Furthermore, my partner ordered gammon, egg and chips. His gammon was virtually inedible as it was extremely salty. I don't know who the "cook" is but he or she obviously doesn't taste the food they serve.

We stayed for a night for a wedding nearby and all the staff we encountered were very friendly and accommodating, even trying to get us in our room slightly earlier despite it having been occupied the night before. After a long wedding I just wanted a child's breakfast the following morning and there was no argument about that.

The rooms are no frills but it did the job perfectly, and it was made all the better by the lovely staff.

I just stayed here for one night to visit my daughter who works in Lyndhurst. The room was very good value for money. It was small and cosy, with a small double bed, which perfectly adequate just for me. Everything was clean and tidy and I had a big bathroom with bath and shower. The bathroom was well stocked with shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and several fluffy white towels, and the shower was lovely and hot. The staff was very helpful and friendly and made me feel very comfortable and totally at home, even though I was staying in my own. I will definitely stay here again in the future.

3.15 am and I am having problems sleeping due to the bouncy and uncomfortable foam pillows. The room is huge, the furniture appears tiny by comparison, and the ‘modern’ decor in various shades of brown does nothing for it. Large bed is comfy enough but the pillows really are not. The wardrobe without doors looks very odd. The enamelled bath has a large black chip in the bottom, and the woodwork in the bathroom is peeling. The overall effect of the decor is not very good.

The member of staff on reception was helpful at check in. Arrived after dark and both the parking area and the ramped path leading up to the hotel were very poorly lit. Was surprised to see other customers using their phones as torches as they were leaving while we were arriving. It is really dark outside.

Booked several weeks ago, and was looking for a convenient place to stay for Brockenhurst. Wasn’t too pleased to find that we could have booked yesterday for much less than we have actually paid.

Asked about breakfast on arrival to find that all the early breakfast ‘slots’ were unavailable, so won’t be eating here at all. TBH, I’ve never stayed in a hotel where we basically couldn’t be fitted in for breakfast.

Not impresssed.

Hi Tracey, No there is no lift, there are some ground floor rooms with access from the car park, but steps to the restaurant from those rooms so unsuitable for a wheelchair or walking difficulties. It’s always best to call direct if looking to book a ground floor room so the tram can check availability. The team are happy to help carrying bags if you ask. Hope that helps
