Set on the edge of the town overlooking grazing New Forest ponies and woodland, this is an location for exploring the area. A short walk (5 minutes) takes you to the many shops, restaurants and pubs of Lyndhurst. There was some noise from passing traffic but not enough to be a bother. The room we stayed in was very light and airy and everywhere was very clean. Rosetta, the host, was very friendly and helpful, both on the phone beforehand and on arrival. Unfortunately she was admitted to hospital on the first night so we didn’t see her before we left. Our best wishes go to her for a speedy recovery. In her absence, her auntie did an admirable job of holding the fort. Highly recommended!

Great guest house. Nothing too much trouble for our host Rosetta who was wonderful. Room was very clean and warm. A great location to visit just about anywhere and a short 5 min walk into Lyndhurst. The forest is just across a busy road where there is access to wonderful walks. A lovely Italian restaurant 2 mins walk away which is excellent. The people in Lyndhurst are generally very friendly in all the cafes, pubs and restaurants. We will definitely be back. Thank you Rosetta. Sharon and Mike

Welcoming staff and wonderful location. We felt very well looked after and the staff seemed genuinely interested in how our stay went. Shout out to the breakfast waitress who was extremely attentive and the cooked breakfast which was 10/10. Great having a car park on site. The guest house is only a 5-10 minute walk to the high street. Recommend the Italian near the guesthouse and the cheese and wine bar. Both superb! Covid precautions taken seriously so knew we were in good hands!!

We have had a four night stay at Forest Side and it’s our last night tonight. Our room (number 2) is at the top of the house. It’s bright with lots of space and a large en-suite with a nice hot shower. The room is spotless and the bed super comfy. The breakfast which you pre-order is divine, it set us up for the day. Due to COVID the hosts get you what you want from the breakfast bar which works very well and when finished your cooked breakfast arrives. It’s a really lovely atmosphere in the mornings. There is free parking on site. All in all an excellent, comfortable and delicious stay from perfect hosts. Thank you very much indeed.

We booked a 3 night stay at Forest Side Guest House and were so excited for our stay in the Premier room which was described as ‘True Luxury’ but we were very disappointed with the room. The carpet in the bedroom is generally in very poor condition, particularly as you enter the bedroom, it is extremely stained and dirty looking, it spreads across to the bed therefore it is very unpleasant getting in and out of bed with bare feet. The grouting between the tiles in the en-suite shower is black in a lot of places. On the website it states each room has a fridge with snacks and treats but ours was empty - we do not believe this was due to Covid restrictions as tea, coffee and 2x biscuits were in our room therefore no reason why snacks were not replenished in the fridge also. The room had 2 single beds pushed together to make a king size but the bottom fitted sheet was ill fitting and constantly pinged off at the corners in the night, I noticed this was mentioned in other reviews so has not been rectified. There is a flat screen tv in the room but it is very small and cannot be viewed if you are in bed. The room feels much more basic than luxury. It is a large room but size alone should not equate to luxury, the contents and appearance are basic. Breakfast was nice, good choice and nicely cooked but very rushed. We emailed Forest Side on return from our stay to provide feedback as we felt the description of the premier room on their website as true luxury and luxurious is very misleading . We had a lovely time in the New Forest but the room was a very real disappointment to us but as yet Forest Side have neither acknowledged nor replied to our email.

Response from David Plowright, Owner at Forest Side Guesthouse
Responded 1 Oct 2020
We write in reply to your review which we are equally disappointed and very surprised to receive. This comes from the fact that despite many opportunities to bring any of your concerns to our attention throughout your stay and following many enquiries by both of us as to your welfare and satisfaction, you chose to enthusiastically say how wonderful everything was for you. I recall seeing you in the car park shortly after your arrival and after noticing from your breakfast pre order that you were vegetarians, I dashed out to check if all was ok for you and to inform you that I had vegetarian sausages available for breakfast should you wish, to which your husband eagerly ordered them and I heard stating how kind it was of me to do that. Despite an ideal opportunity to bring your disappointment with the carpet to my attention you decided not to do so. Regarding the carpet, we do apologise for not informing you about this upon arrival, there is a lot to go through with guests regarding Covid at the moment at check in and this did slip our mind. The mark on the carpet is a coffee stain and nothing more however I can appreciate your concern. Due to our 100% occupancy in the room these past few weeks it has been tricky to carry out a full clean of the carpet since the accident by a previous guest a couple of weeks ago. The rest of the carpet however I must disagree with you, it is in excellent condition and all are professionally cleaned at the start of each season. All fridges since various Covid guidelines have come in have been emptied of cans of drink, crisps, chocolate bars, sweets, water etc. the reason for this is that we do not want guests to be handling them, moving them around the fridge as they put in their own items and then leaving the items unused for the next guests. We do not feel that this is appropriate under the present environment so we have removed all items from all fridges however the fridges remain in the room for guests to use and are all cleaned after guests depart. Our apologies if we failed to update the website with this change, it has been hard to keep up with all regulations. Again a simple enquiry as to why the fridge was empty and the simple explanation would have been provided to you. Regarding teas and coffees etc, any sachets of such that remain in a room on the day a guest departs are removed from that room and kept in store for 72 hours before being considered for use back in a bedroom, carrying out such a policy for the fridge items would be far too onerous. The beds are not just pushed together, they are purpose made zip and link beds as used in 5 star hotel properties that I have managed for many years during my career. If the bottom sheet was ill fitted or had lost some of is elasticity then a simple comment to us would have seen this rectified immediately. Every day since a change in policy to not servicing rooms daily due to Covid, our guests do ask us for towel changes, tell us a light bulb needs changing, request more toilet rolls etc and we simply put on our PPE and attend to whatever request has been made, I think that comments on TA and Booking.com demonstrate how highly we regard the comfort of our guests and how highly they regard their stay with us. Regarding the TV, this is positioned in the lounge area of the room and can easily be viewed from the seating area in the lounge however your feedback is appreciated and the change to a larger tv is one that will be considered when a review of our facilities is made as it is every year. I'm delighted you enjoyed the much complimented breakfast that we supply however I clearly remember that you selected the second sitting for breakfast each day and as such would never have been rushed and you could have relaxed in the breakfast room for as long as you wished each morning, I recall having banter with you and other guests enjoying a leisurely breakfast on the day you were dashing to Stonehenge. We always want our guests to relax at breakfast and try and promote a fun atmosphere in the room. Having to serve the buffet to guests has placed extra pressure on us however we never rush guests and I am very confused as to how you could feel this way. We do not try and mislead anyone and I can only state once again how proud we are of the property we present and the high ratings we have achieved on review sites. I think had you made your concerns known to us during your stay then your review would have been a far different one, I am at a loss as to why given the numerous opportunities to speak to us you decided not to. David & Rosie

My friend and I had a wonderful stay at this guesthouse. Our room was clean, bright and airy and the bed was very comfortable. We were given a full English breakfast at two sittings to accommodate for social distancing which was delicious, with a selection of fruit, yoghurts and toast. The hotel owners greated us with a warm smile and could not be more helpful! We even bought some photo postcards of the surrounding countryside to remember our stay by, taken by the hotel owner. I would definitely recommend and will be returning.

Spent 3 nights here very recently, to celebrate my birthday. My partner and I absolutely adore nature, especially walking amongst it, and this place is perfect to explore the New Forest. From start to finish we were made to feel very welcome, in their beautiful Victorian guesthouse. Our room was spacious, clean and suitably decorated for our surroundings. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful, which is needed for the walks that you may wish to tackle. Rosetta and David are lovely hosts, with lots of useful information, and tips. The lovely village of Lyndhurst is a 5 minute walk up the road, with a choice of cafes, restaurants pubs etc. ( Try the Surfing Moo Moo for steak, and La Pergola for pasta/pizza ). This is just a great base in which to discover the huge New Forest, and surrounding woods. I would not hesitate in recommending to anyone, and I hope to return at some point next year. If you love walking, Ponies,Deer, pigs, cows, dogs and a warm welcome then head to Forest side. Thanks so much Rosetta and David! 🙂

We stayed for 4 nights to be central to the New Forest. This was perfect and very comfortable. The hosts Rosetta & David were very friendly, helpful and accommodating, especially during difficult times due to COVID-19. The breakfasts were excellent with great service too. We would highly recommend this guesthouse and will definitely return if back in the area. A fabulous stay, thank you.
