We arrived at penny farthing and were greeted with a smile and when we entered our room we were absolutely amazed with how beautiful and well presented it was also spotlessly clean all over. Great facilities and lovely comfy linen. We stayed in the kangaroo room. Breakfast was absolutely gorgeous the continental and the full breakfast were delicious. Great staff and great service. Only a shirt walk away from amazing friendly restaurants and pubs will definitely be returning.

We booked this stay short notice and looked for a cheap overnight break. I had a slight concern when I noticed dogs were allowed, but from the moment you received the friendly welcome at reception to check out the hotel smelt so clean, you would not have known people had dogs there . They claim to provide a fabulous breakfast which is a bold claim and sets expectation high. They did not disappoint, friendly service, nice selection of cold produce and then a well cooked breakfast . I would not hesitate to stay again and wish we had booked a longer stay.

The BB is only a couple of minutes walk from the main high street and has its own parking. We were in the top of the main building next to the road so there was some road noise. Given the structure at the top of the building the sink was in the bedroom itself with the shower and toilet in the en-suite area.
Their cooked breakfast was very tasty and the staff were friendly and helpful. The BB itself was clean and tidy.

We’ve just returned from a stay here. We were in a “cottage” (it’s a flat), called Mad Hatter 2.
Positives: Location Friendly staff at check in Beds and bedding clean Towels clean
Negatives: Very dated interior, especially for the price (not worth over six hundred pounds for 3 nights) Dishwasher absolutely disgusting Fridge not as bad, but not clean enough Plates and cutlery covered in dried food Bin lid disgusting Bathroom stinks of mould and damp Main Road is very noisy, triple glazed windows would be great
I travel a lot all over the country and abroad, both for work and pleasure. My expectations were not met based on price vs product.
This trip was organised so we could visit family, but the accommodation put a real downer on things. I would not visit again.

Stayed here on New Year’s Eve for just 1 night. Our room was clean and tidy but very basic the window was broken and the road noise was very loud all night. The room door let light in from the corridor all night I had to try block it off using towels and coats, the bed was extremely uncomfortable with a cheep squeaky bed frame, didn’t use the shower as it looked very old and grubby. The walls are very thin and can hear everything from other guests it was probably the worst nights sleep I’ve had in a long time. My wife was of the same opinion and didn’t really sleep at all. We wasn’t expecting the ritz as it’s a reasonably cheep price £120 for 1 night including breakfast but it was a disappointment nonetheless. Breakfast was nice food was fresh and well cooked and served promptly. You definitely get what you pay for with bed and breakfasts and I wouldn’t stay again there are much nicer places to stay for the same price.

Great location to visit the New Forest with parking reserved for guests which is very appreciable. The small town center is 3 minutes walk and has all amenities. On the other hand the welcome is a big black spot. No smile, no attention, we really have the Impression of being a number including breakfast. Check-out after waiting at reception was told to simply put the keys on the counter. Breakfast is a unique menu served on the plate, not bad but the buffet is not great with coffee Filter not very good

It’s so nice to actually write a good review for once. This hotel which also has two cottages if you want to take the family, is in a perfect location to explore the New Forest. We originally booked a room which was very spacious but the bed had an end to it so my husband, who is 6ft5 couldn’t fit lengthwise. I told Danielle, the lovely lady on reception, who put us straight into one of the cottages. The cottage was lovely and had all the basics needed. Lovely comfortable beds. The breakfast was lovely, self service for cereal, teas, coffee and then after the waitress came and took our cooked breakfast order. When we checked out Danielle said we could leave our car in their car park so we could spend the day exploring. All in all a really friendly, lovely place to stay, nothing was too much trouble. Will bring my daughter and grandson next time.

We stayed at The Penny Farthing from the 24th-26th June & we chose it because it was dog friendly & for its location.
Staff were really friendly & approachable, our dog really appreciated her sausage at breakfast time, I think she’s wondering why she doesn’t get one every morning now we’re back at home!
We stayed on the top floor at the front of the hotel and our room was spacious & spotlessly clean, you couldn’t tell that dogs had been in there previously. The bed was also really comfy! I’m a very light sleeper so was worried about road noise after reading the reviews but I honestly slept the best I had in a long time. Yes the road is noisy but only in the daytime, by the time we got home from a day out & went out for dinner around 6 the road was pretty much clear with just the odd car passing so it really wasn’t a problem.
The hotel is around a 1-2 minute walk onto the main high street where there are an abundance of dog friendly cafes/pubs/restaurants.
Breakfast was delicious! A small continental buffet and a choice of cooked breakfasts, all piping hot & cooked to perfection.
There is car parking at the rear & plenty of it, we never struggled to park at all. There is also a small grass area for your dogs morning & bedtime wees/poos. No fault of the hotel here but we took our dog out for a wee & were disappointed that someone hadn’t picked up their dogs poo! I picked it up but there aren’t many places as dog friendly as the Penny Farthing and people not being responsible ruins that for the dog owners that are.
We had a wonderful stay & we really enjoyed every minute. We have already recommended a few people to stay for a dog friendly break. We will 100% be returning, maybe even before the end of the year. Thankyou for a lovely stay

We booked a three night stay at this hotel and was very pleasantly surprised, although an old building the room was spotlessly clean and bed was really comfortable and the stairs are not too steep as has been suggested, we are in our late 60s and had no trouble with them. The full english breakfast was superbly cooked every morning and there were alternatives available if you wanted them. For the price this is a hotel well worth staying at, and being off the high street is reasonably quiet at night.

Staff welcoming and the hotel is recently refurbished and comfy but when booking I called the hotel and asked if there was an EV charger as I would need to charge my vehicle before leaving and heading home. I was told there was an EV charger and it would be £25 for an overnight charge. That would be rather expensive however I accepted I would have to pay a premium for on site charging. However, when arriving at the hotel I was rather dismayed to find that there is no EV charger. You have to use a 3 pin plug charging cable which is no good. Unfortunately I had booked and paid online so am unable to find anywhere else to stay. I’ve now got to find somewhere to charge my car!!
