The Crown Manor House Hotel offers a mix of experiences, with guests often finding the rooms clean and cozy, albeit some report them as small and noisy. The hotel's amenities, including the unique library and garden, receive high marks, although the breakfast buffet's quality has been questioned. Its prime location is a highlight for those looking to explore the New Forest. While the atmosphere is seen as charming and traditional, opinions on value and service vary, with commendations for the staff's professionalism contrasting with concerns over room pricing and additional fees.

A very well run and charming establishment. The rooms are really clean and comfortable. We choose a room at the back of the hotel so cooler and quieter. A fan had been left on in the bedroom and the curtains semi drawn on arrival, which meant the room wasn’t over warm. There is a very wide range of high quality ingredients on the breakfast buffet. Service was always organised well and very friendly. We ate in the restaurant for two nights and the food was very tasty. Perhaps some sauces with the main courses could be nice to bring them together but the dishes are tasty. Another excellent stay.

This hotel is in an excellent location in Lindhurst and there is plenty of parking The room we stay in was very well furnished and extremely well furnished. Excellent shower, very comfortable bedd, great view from the window. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the evening meal was brilliant and very good value for money.the buffet breakfast was very good although we were surprised to have buffet for the hot breakfast food as many hotels of this quality cook breakfast to order. Would definitely stay here again if in the area.

This is a very traditional hotel in style with probably the quirkiest lift ever (don't change it) - the hotel is very clean, warm and well presented.

All the staff we met were very friendly especially the breakfast staff we met.

Rooms were traditionally decorated but with very modern bathrooms - all presented well.

We stayed on an off chance earlier in the year and have returned again.

Recommended hotel.

Our first time in Lyndhurst and staying at the hotel. Overall it was a pleasent stay.

Pros:
biggest pro was the great location for the high street including local cafes, pubs, bakery and a stone throw away from lots of lovely walks.

Dog friendly( with a doggy gift back on arrival)

Breakfast was a solid 9/10- buffet style( I would recommend getting in before 9am as it then gets incredible busy at the weekend)

Room prices are affordable

When we had an issue the line manager rectified promptly.

Cons:
No EV charging at a hotel as big as this was a surprise, there are chargers dotted locally but a shame as many of the other hotels close by did have them.

Dining in the hotel is expensive( again good to see what else is locally being offered at a much more affordable price and better quality)

Bedroom( double rooms) are quant and in need of an update. However if you are planning to use the room as a base only( as we did) this wasn’t a problem.

2F1 cocktails were expensive more like London prices( if you go to the many high street pubs there half the price in many other pubs)

To summarise we would unlikely return to the hotel, however it was a solid 6.5/7 out of 10 and we were most impressed by the location.

It is very easy in the New Forest area to spend an awfully large amount on accommodation.
By the same token , paying out a lot guarantees nothing.
We spent two nights last week at the Crown Manor in Lyndhurst . It was our second visit having stayed two years ago at the same time - wedding anniversary.
We have been staying in hotels for short breaks since the 1980's - home and abroad. Few come remotely close to the standard of service this hotel achieves . All the staff were exemplary; the building itself , bearing in mind its age , is remarkably well maintained. Further , and again bearing in mind the age , it is a pleasant surprise to find that the hotel is warm throughout , even in the midst of cold snaps. One gets a warm welcome in each area of the hotel - front desk made some specific arrangements discreetly and perfectly; the restaurant runs very well , the standard of cuisine is excellent , the wine list sensible and not over priced. I cannot fault the place one iota - my wife is now sadly disabled and even modern hotels regularly seem unable to cope with that - the normal disabled parking was unavailable due to maintenance works ongoing - no problem said the day manager on arrival , 'leave your car in the drop off bay for the duration of your two day stay and is there any other way we can assist?' - that is how one gets off to a good start
Lest anyone think we were on a cheapy deal so anything would pass for good , we have stayed twice now in the Rufus Suite - whilst it is somewhat more expensive than other rooms at this hotel, it still reflects as a bargain value wise when one compares what the guest receives compared with what many hotels offer at a similar or inflated price.
I am sure we will return again , confident that the hotel will continue to strive to get even better than it already is - thank good for hotels operated by individuals who regard good old fashioned quality as paramount.

Very disappointed to return to this hotel after 30years to find how much it had changed for the worse. The room we were given was supposed to be a Superior however it was nothing like the picture. Only had room for one easy chair and didn't have a table. Floor space was poor and the decor badly needed updating. The shower screen on the bath had a broken hinge. We had to contact reception to find out how to open it and was told to force it open. The bathroom only had a very small electric towel rail so the bathroom was very cold. Two large groups were staying at the hotel, they were very noisy in the restaurant and we couldn't hold a conversation. Do not take the dinner option as they charge you an extra £35 each a day then give you the same £35 back. You are then obliged to eat at the hotel. Something we regretted after day 1. The food is not good most dishes are very dry. I had a tart tatin that was black and burnt almost impossible to chew. The breakfast buffet was also very poor. Even the toaster required bread to be put through several times to get it slightly brown. Again very noisy members of the two groups. When we first arrived we were greeted by a woman who by her attitude didn't want to be there or didn't want us there. We are both in our late 70's, the room we had was on the 3rd floor and she didn't tell us there was a lift, just directed us to the staircase letting us carry our own cases to the room. It is a shame such a lovely hotel has changed.

Beautiful building in a prime location, let down by poor customer service and uncomfortable facilities.
The bed was a very small double and the mattress far too soft for comfort. That, coupled with the fact that the only cover was a thick duvet (in the height of Summer, too hot), resulted in a sleepless night.
The bathroom was tiny. While sitting on the toilet, you could wash your hands in the sink and your feet in the bathtub at the same time. Bathroom flooded when having a shower as the shower screen was too small to stop water leaking.
We were unable to dine in the hotel restaurant, being told they were ‘fully booked’ despite there being only 2 people eating and around 25 tables empty (still empty 1 hour later when we walked past again). Just poor service.
Luckily, the fish restaurant just up the road was fab!
Disappointing stay at this hotel.

The hotel was lovely, but our room faced the road, which was very busy and therefore noisy. The food was excellent and they had happy hour between 3 and 6 where you got 2 cocktails for the price of one. Don't worry if your favourite is not on the list, they will make it for you. Staff were friendly. However, the antiquated tiny lift did not always work and with umpteen flights of stairs to climb with luggage was not good. They should have someone to do this for you especially if you have mobility issues. This should be checked by the hotel on booking so they are aware and can put guests on a lower floor. Friends had a room at the back, so they slept well. Ask for a quiet room!

Would visit again, just not room 201 (will get to that later).
This is a lovely hotel, in a lovely area. We had 3 x '"snug doubles," and they were snug, but not overly snug, and were bigger than expected. The breakfast was nice, fry up, cereal, toast, hot and cold food/drinks buffet style. The location was great, 5 minutes walk along a lovely High Street takes you to Boltons Bench. A lovely bench around a tree with wild ponies chilling right next to you. 10 minutes drive from New Forest Wildlife Park (which is well worth visiting). The vibe was nice, well spoken, polite, well-dressed, young staff, and a happy hour half price cocktail from 3-6. Only thing I'd change in that happy hour is have a bit of light music to stop the little lounge area being a bit awkwardly silent as you walk in.
The one quite significant negative is that one of our rooms was unbearably hot, this was room 201, it had heating pipes running right over the door and I'm guessing was right next to the boiler that heats the entire hotel. The ones in our group that had that room had a terrible sleep, even with the window as wide open as possible. We mentioned this to the manager at check-out, who seemed surprised and said he would investigate and call back. I had no call back and had seen numerous people mentioning the heat issue on previous reviews on here, so I don't truly think the manager would have been unaware of this issue. But we did get a good deal and had the cheaper rooms, so not the end of the world. Just be aware if you book a "snug double," you may get the short straw (201), but hopefully, they will address the issue before then.
On a brighter note, we left a pair of new kids trainers behind, and after leaving numerous messages, finally got a call back from a very lovely young lady, Tracey, who arranged to post them back for a small handling fee and postage. She was so sweet and left a good last impression on the hotel.
All in all, I'd definitely recommend it. It's a lovely hotel, in a lovely location. And we all really enjoyed the stay (except the 2 who had the hot room). But even then, they liked everything else about the hotel.

We have just visited the hotel staying in the King Rufus Suite.

On arrival we left our car in the hotel car park and went for a walk around the town. The hotel is in the perfect location at the top of the high street meaning you can walk directly into the town, or if you wanted a bit further along into the forest.

Reception were extremely friendly, saying our room would be ready early. The check in process was easy. The room is extremely spacious, lovely moderns bathroom with a great roll top bath.

The hotel was doing 2 for 1 cocktails during a happy hour (or two) and we really enjoyed this. A great choice and well made.

We had booked dinner bed and breakfast so at in the restaurant in the evening. This was a little disappointing - from arrival into the restaurant to getting our starter was around an hour. The rest of the food was a lot faster. The food was nice enough, however, not the best I have had in a restaurant that has 2 rosettes - this maybe as there was a large group in at the same time so the food was not overly warm when it arrived at the table.

All in all a good stay and would come back.
