Formerly a Georgian Dower House of the Northerwood Estate, Forest Lodge Hotel blends historical charm and contemporary style with warm hospitality. Located just minutes from the ‘capital’ of the New Forest, there’s plenty of walks from the door and an array of boutique shops just a short stroll away. The restaurant’s chic interior and the team’s relaxed, friendly approach to service creates a warm and inviting space for a casual dining experience whilst prime hand-cut steaks. Stylishly decorated, rooms are comfortable, modern and ideal for both long or short getaways. The large indoor, heated swimming pool is also a big attraction and is exclusively for hotel guests. Family friendly, dogs are welcome too.

Nestled in a prime location near Lyndhurst town center, Forest Lodge receives accolades for its accessibility to forest walks and local amenities. While guests commend the clean rooms and pool area, there's a consensus that the rooms could benefit from modernization and addressing maintenance issues. The hotel's amenities, including a pet-friendly policy and a swimming pool, are popular, though travelers have called for improvements. The service stands out as welcoming, but inconsistency, particularly in the dining area, is noted. Despite the inviting atmosphere, critics highlight the hotel's value proposition, citing overpriced rooms and services.

Positives: Location of the hotel was convenient for getting into Lyndhurst, bar prices were decent, food was nice and swimming pool a good size. Negatives: rooms could do with being redecorated and the plumbing seriously needs sorting out. Some rooms appear to be on mains water whereas our room had an electric shower which produced no more than a trickle of water, which would either be freezing cold or scalding hot. Reception said it’s to do with the swimming pool being refilled and the hotel being at full capacity. Luckily we traveled with family so were able to use their shower but not good enough when you’ve paid £135!!

I booked this hotel through Booking.com for our anniversary, the hotel was in a great location in Lyndhurst town, walking distance to shops. They were really dog friendly and fur a small fee per dog they supplied a bowl , mat , towel and a bag of homemade doggie treats in our room for our 2 dogs. The staff are really chatty and friendly and loved making a fuss of our dogs even going the extra mile to give them both some sausage from the kitchen at breakfast. Room was lovely and cosy , bed comfy and a big corner bath too , loved the cellar too as the floor was nice and cool fir our dogs and had a big screen tv on the wall that allowed us to watch the rugby World Cup which pleased my husband. Would definitely visit again .

Fabulous stay, absolutely perfect location for walks in the forest, pubs, cafés etc, we didn't need to get in the car all weekend! Lovely room, comfortable bed, very quiet too. Room had bottle of water, glasses, tea and coffee making facilities, biscuits plus some homemade shortbread which was a nice touch. Staff are brilliant, all so friendly, helpful, attentive, polite. Pool was nice, plenty of towels, 2 changing rooms with shower, toilet and sink in each one so we were able to use the pool on arrival before checking in as we were early. The hotel has lots of comfy seating areas including a quiet lounge which is great if you want to sit away from any dogs/children! Prices at the hotel for drinks need to be more competitive, I know there is usually a mark up on alcohol but no bottles of wine under £26, a bottle of red was £33 which we could buy in the pub a few steps away for £19!! Breakfast is top notch, huge choice plus extras to order from the menu too. Only down points would be that it was really hot in the hotel, heating on constant, made it a bit uncomfortable, plus our towel rail in the bathroom could not be turned off so it was way too hot!! A few bits of updating in room needed but overall a fab stay and we will definitely be back!!

Dear 179debbiev, Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review of your recent stay with us at Forest Lodge. It is great to see that you had such a lovely time and thoroughly enjoyed the location and facilities of the hotel. I have taken on board your comments about the wine offering and am working with our supplier to improve our wine list and negotiate more competitive prices. unfortunately I could not identify your particular booking from your trip advisor username, however I have asked the maintenance team to check all of the towel rails and radiators to make sure that they are working correctly and can be adjusted at need, thank you for letting me know about this issue. We all look forward to welcoming you back next time you visit the New Forest.

We stayed here a few years ago and had a lovely, clean room. Sadly, this time, the room was not clean at all (I could have written my name in the dust on the light shade). Carpets were worn and wrinkled. Bathroom was in need of repair (sealant/woodwork, constantly running cistern, shower not much more than a dribble). The cleaners failed to fully service our room 2 days on the trot leaving us with no tea bags, milk or clean cups for the next morning and towels not renewed. Food quality is average at best, but overpriced for what you get. Most guests seemed to eat at local pubs rather than the hotel restaurant. Despite it's great location for access to the New Forest and local attractions, I won't be staying here again unless some major improvements are made.

Dear DoctorVock, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at Forest Lodge, Upon receiving your review I inspected the room you stayed in as soon as it was vacated with my head of Housekeeping and feel that what you have written is a little unfair regarding the condition of the room. What I found was a clean room with carpet in good condition and no dust on the surfaces, skirting boards or picture frames etc with the exception of some dust that has been stuck to the felt interior of the light shade which given its location is rather difficult to reach and clean, a bathroom in good repair and functional the cistern having been repaired by our diligent maintenance team as soon as it had been reported. Following yours and other guests feedback I am in the process of finding replacement lamp shades that will help brighten the rooms and be easier for our housekeepers to keep clean. I am sorry that the room was not serviced sufficiently during your stay, but also that you did not report this at the time as we would certainly have corrected any issues there and then which I am sure you will agree is certainly preferable to reporting it after the event in an online review. Our menus are changed seasonally and produced with the feedback provided by our guests in mind particularly around variety of dishes and value for money, we also source all of our ingredients from local suppliers to ensure that our ingredients are as fresh as possible. I was pleased to see however that you had a good nights sleep and enjoy our fantastic location.

We were gifted a Virgin Experience voucher we used for our 2 night stay to Forest Lodge Hotel.
If we had to sum up the hotel we would say, great staff but the rooms need some TLC.
We had everything we needed however we were disappointed with the bathroom - in particular the shower. I am never a fan of over bath showers and shower curtains are mould magnets. A new shower/wet room would modernise the room and surely be more environmentally friendly than a bath. The room was dusty and could do with a few touch ups.
The hotel has a pool and it was nice to be able to have a swim. Again, the area could do with a lick of paint and some locks on the 2 family changing rooms. One of us stood guard, whilst the other got dressed -something which could easily be changed.
The breakfast staff were very polite and attentive and the breakfast was good quality-there was plenty to choose from.
The hotel is around 5 to 10 minutes walk from Lyndhurst and there are plenty of cafés and pubs to nearby.

Dear anita7299 Thank you for your balanced review from your recent stay. We are currently upgrading our pool area and whilst it is true that there is still some work to do the comments you have made are all on our list and we hope to be able to continue this work after the busier Easter holiday period. We do also have an ongoing maintenance program for our rooms which does of course include the bathrooms, Whilst many of our guests enjoy the bath tub as little touch of luxury whilst on holiday I will certainly take your comments regarding shower curtains into consideration. It is great to see that you enjoyed our fantastic location as well as our recently upgraded breakfast and the service provided to you by the staff.

Great 2 night stay for me, my wife, and my dog. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We felt very welcome with our dog- treats and a water dish awaited us in the room and we were welcome in the hotel bar to eat breakfast and dinner. All the food was delicious and very generous portions, especially the breakfast. Alex took good care of us in the bar. As for the room, the bed was comfy and the room was clean and cosy. And the area around is beautiful, we had some lovely walks. Would definitely recommend.

What a fantastic start to the New Year! We enjoyed a one night stay, meeting up with family, and couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome by all the staff we encountered. As there are 5 of us (2 adults and 3 children) we were able to stay together in a family room, which was perfect. The children made good use of the pool, as did my stepmother, and it was clean and well kept. The room was also clean and well maintained and I was impressed by the thoughtfulness of the cleaning staff, knowing there would be five of us staying in the room, to leave five water glasses. We had a lovely evening meal in the hotel restaurant and were made to feel welcome; and there was no trouble or fuss made to accommodate our requests regarding tweaks to dishes that we requested. Breakfast in the restaurant the following morning was equally as good, a good selection of items both hot and cold and attentive waiting staff. All in all we had a wonderful stay and would thoroughly recommend this hotel, we will definitely be back!

Dear emmawilki81, Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review of your stay with us at Forest Lodge. When I shared your review with the team, from the chefs who prepared your meals using fresh local produce to the Housekeeping and from of house team who look after the rooms and our great family facilities such as the pool and cellar room, they were all so pleased that their hard work and excellent service had been recognised and remembered so fondly. A delightful hotel in a great location with the best staff encountered in an establishment for some time. Our only gripe was the 2 star food, not served hot, mediocre and way off 4 star- all apart from terrific gourmet chips- now they were plain excellent. The pool is a lovely temperature, good size and well kept, apart from some damp damaged walls needing attention - but its a swimming pool so challenging I'm sure. Our room had a great bed with quality linen, an excellent large smart TV but some minor points in the room needing attention and easy to remedy such as loose hooks etc. Only 4 clothes hangers in the ample wardrobe is somewhat annoying. Old cobwebs around light shades is also a simple house keeping fix. Yes its an old but well maintained property and spiders are ever present but when dust and fluff is present in them housekeeping needs a boost.

Lovely location for the hotel, short walk into Lyndhurst. Plenty of parking and it's very quiet.

Unfortunately, the state of the bathroom of the room we had was shocking to say the least. The plaster was literally hanging off the ceiling and pieces kept falling into the bath... The rest of the bathroom wasn't much better - considering the rest of the hotel and the room itself wasn't too bad, that genuinely took me aback. Surely, you can't put guests in the rooms with bathrooms in that kind of state until they are sorted...
Bed very comfy, although I think it was two beds pushed together.
Great idea to be able to log into your own streaming apps.
Pool was ok.
Breakfast was very average and definitely not worth the price.

Just going to get straight to it.
Pros:
*Staff is fantastic, friendly and approachable. A definite selling point.
*Room is well equipped; black out curtains, a lot TV channels, comfortable bed and pillows. For the ladies.. maybe provide separate shampoo and conditioner, not a 2 in 1.. the water temperature kept changing from hot to cold, but had a fantastic pressure.
*Swimming pool, didn't use it but that could make or break for someone
*Quiet, the hotel is just off a main road but I couldn't hear any traffic although I was facing the back, however when on the Terrace (facing the road) the traffic noise was still very low
*Dogs, the hotel is dog friendly and they even have a dog station with water, treats, poop bags and towels! For the owners, you can do a quick 10min pee and poo walk around the hotel with bins in the morning / evening, v useful!
Cons, the only one: food. You need a new chef. I had absolutely delicious meals just on your doorstep. The breakfast and dinner I had at the hotel we're adequate and that's pushing it.. The food service also seems a bit distorted in the morning and even in the evening compared to other local small inns. It's just slow even when it's not busy. I think breakfast should be done within 30mins as the guests have places to go. Not wait to be served after 10 mins. Yes had to sit at the bar due to the dog but surely we shouldn't be served differently.
The menu seems very similar to the local pubs, when the venues are so different. Maybe try something completely different, French, Greek.. who knows. You have two very competitive pubs offering fantastic pub food 2mins from the hotel's doorstep and you're also close to the highstreet where the offerring are much better. You may want to rethink your F&B stay competitive.
All the best, I had a fantastic stay due to the staff..
