Detailed Reviews
Great stay, friendly and relaxed staff. Room was spotlessly clean, massive in size and had everything and more than you could need. Very modern for a pub hotel, you can tell they put effort into the rooms with usb plug sockets and quality shower etc. My wife and I had drinks and snacks in the pub on arrival, very nice. We didn’t try the breakfast as had really early start but will try next time.
Highly recommended.

Didn't fancy 14 days days quarantine if we went to France so changed our plans at the last minute and stayed in this delightful hotel instead. The rooms were immaculate and beds were comfortable. We were given a generous bag of individual toiletries each as there cannot be anything like that in the rooms. We had a great dinner and the wine list was as good as anything we'd have got in France. Breakfast was just fabulous! Everything freshly cooked and brought to the table. Staff are cheery, welcoming, polite: everything you could possibly want from a hotel.

Maybe I shouldn’t say this, but I will! If you’re staying in the Premier Inn down the road and you want an evening meal don’t bother with the pub next door. Walk a few hundred yards down the road to The Mortimer Arms. Some great real ales and the food was lovely. Highly recommended.

This has been the worst decision I ever made today. It looked lovely however the staff were miserable and acted as if they didn’t want you in there. They installed the most complicated system to enter the pub garden as possible. They have an extensive highly priced menu however they want you to collect your own food and clear away after yourself but still pay the same price for the privilege. They don’t want you in the pub only the garden best option for this place would be to close until life is back to normal.

This was a last minute booking, we were supposed to be staying on a campsite, but due to the recent flooding, we were unable to. I booked two rooms, one for myself and my boyfriend and the other for my parents. It was £160 all together, one £75 standard room and one £85 superior queen room.
When we got there, there was nobody on reception, it seemed rather short staff. She said there had been a problem with my card and the payment wouldn’t take, so I queried it, they had tried charging us £160 x2, she said that was normal price for a weekend, so couldn’t understand why we would’ve only been told £75. I obviously showed the booking e-mail, so she accepted this. They couldn’t split the booking, we needed to pay it together, so my mum put it on her card. We then got given our keys and everything seemed fine.
The rooms themselves, were really nice, modern and clean. Everything you would expect for a hotel room. However, neither of them we would class as a superior queen room (both beds were the same size) so not sure how they could charge different prices. They room itself we had no faults, the shower was lovely and the bed was comfy (but I like a soft mattress, my parents on the other hand didn’t)
We decided the have some lunch in the restaurant, the menu had a nice range and seemed to be all cooked fresh. It was rather expensive, and they added a tip on automatically (which I personally don’t agree with - but that’s everyone’s opinion)
Another man then came over to us and said that my mums card had been declined (this was part way through our meal), my mum doesn’t have internet banking and obviously wanted to check her bank before agreeing to try again. In the end, it was the lady that checked us in, had put the wrong information in from my mums card, meaning it had declined. Maybe a staff training issue? This lady and the man then proceeded to “throw comments” at each other, which I thought was rather unprofessional. Anyway, the meal was lovely.
Neither couples had a good nights sleep, understandably it is an old building so sound travels and they are obviously aware of this, because in the information pack, it says it will be quiet after 11:30pm, this was not the case, you could hear staff clearing away downstairs until about 12:30am. Then we had a rude awakening at about 6am this morning, the cleaning cupboard was next to our room, the cleaners were not considerate at all, laughing and talking very loudly. I poked my head around the door and put the do not disturb sign on the door, I think they may have got the hint (wished I had of done this sooner - didn’t pluck up the courage to do it till about 8!)
We didn’t even look at breakfast as it was an extra £15 pp, so we went down the road haha.
It was a nice hotel, just think there is a few training / other issues that need ironing out... but unfortunately I won’t be recommending....

We booked a table here on 06/08/2020 for a meal on 11/08/2020 after a trip to the nearby Paultons Park. On arriving at the restaurant with two hungry tired children we were told that our table was in fact a picnic table outside. At no point was we told when booking we would be seated outside, we had been outside in the sun with the children all day so wanted to eat inside. When we asked if we could be seated inside we were told all the tables were booked already. The outside table we were given was rotting and had a small bucket on smelling of cigarettes, not acceptable for dining with children. We decided to leave and find somewhere else to eat. We certainly won’t be returning when visiting the area again, I would advise people to be clear on where they are booking a table when visiting.

We found this pub when we were looking for somewhere to stay in our motorhome when we were visiting. Paultons Park. We emailed the pub and they replied within a very short space of time. They agreed we could stay in the carpark and booked us in for an evening meal and sectioned off an area in the carpark for us. When we confirmed we were staying the night they also offered to book us in for breakfast.
The staff and the food were lovely and so helpful. The location was perfect for Paultons Park as it was right on the entrance. The carpark was nice and quiet and most importantly when in a motorhome it was flat.
I would highly recommend this little hidden gem.

On a recent visit to a nearby campsite we booked very last min (staff were very accommodating although already very busy) for evening meal with our twin granddaughters (2 years). The food was excellent and all freshly cooked definitely not weatherspoons prices but was real value for money. We booked for the next night as well. Definitely will book when we next visit Paultons.

I'd start by saying that the website description of The Mortimer Arms doesn't equate to the real life experience of staying there. 'Stunning beautiful boutique rooms' is quite an embellishment on the reality.
'Our staff offer you a friendly welcome to make your visit as enjoyable as possible' wasn't the welcome that we experienced as we booked in for our weekend stay. A tenuous experience void of any real level of customer service awaited us as the pained check in consisted of taking our card details twice (new system meant the payment hadn't been taken prior to arrival and the first card attempt was rejected due to new system) with distractions of a toddler running amok in the restaurant area and the phone ringing and being answered by the receptionist whilst we were in the process of checking in.
After what felt like an age we finally got our key to the room which felt very bog standard. The finishes weren't great - a garish laminated sign in the bathroom advising not to flush anything but toilet paper in the toilet would have felt at home in a Blackpool B&B and the plastic end caps on the shower controls kept falling off. The 'monsoon shower' had a separate attachment showerhead which didn't appear to be connected to any water flow so was surplus to requirements and the on/off control was difficult to operate.
The 'free wi-fi' wasn't connecting on the second day, so a trip downstairs to check on what was happening resulted in us eventually getting the staff wi-fi network password, which was intermittent and dropped out regularly.
Breakfast was adequate and we didn't eat here in the evening as the menu layout is confusing and too busy. Being so close to Paulton's Park it is also a magnet for families with kids running riot so not a great atmosphere for a non kiddy couple, a lesson we have now learnt when looking for accommodation.
Probably a great place if you have a visit to Paulton's Park planned but I certainly wouldn't class this as a swanky boutique country pub, it's a two star B&B at best.

Twenty of us had lunch at the Mortimer Arms on Tuesday and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. All the food was delicious, those having the Sweet potato and Chickpea burger even stating that it was the best they'd ever had. From the moment we arrived until the time we left we were looked after with care and attentiveness, nothing seemed too much trouble.
The restaurant and bar area was warm, the decor and furnishings very pleasant.
I would have no hesitation in recommending that, if you were thinking of visiting, then do. Thank you to all involved, from the initial enquiry to those who made the occasion so special.
