Very pleased with our recent stay following a live music event at the Concorde Club. Friendly staff and clean, comfortable room. The room was quiet. The breakfast the following morning was very good, with a good choice from the buffet and a cooked to order breakfast, accompanied with a decent size cup of coffee/tea. Again very friendly and helpful staff. Not the most modern of hotels but very comfortable and good value for money
We stayed here for one night on our way from Somerset to the Isle of Wight. On arrival, the hotel looks to be in a beautiful setting and indeed the restaurant and the grounds are lovely. Check in was fine and although there was a mishap with payment(not their fault), it was sorted very quickly. The rooms are fine and the bed very comfy but as other reviewers have written, are very dark. The furniture itself is absolutely fine but is just very dark and the carpet is tired. Having said that, we enjoyed our stay and we slept well. Yes, in time it will probably be upgraded but for one night we couldn't fault it. To stay for more than that in a dark room could begin to feel oppressive. The restaurant was lovely as was the seating outdoors and the food was good. However, as much as I love dogs and welcome hotels being dog friendly, I really don't think dogs should be allowed in the restaurant other than outdoor seating area. We would stay here again - great location for access to the airport, the ferries and the cruises.…
Looked amazing from the outside but check in took ages, the room was in desperate need of a makeover- dark and dreary! The bathroom was like a hospital bathroom- clinical. The cleanliness was ok but not amazing, the aircon unit looked about 50 years old and didn’t work at all. Food in the restaurant was average- they forgot our main meals, we waited patiently for over an hour and when my roast did come I just had meat and roast potatoes- nothing else on the plate! When I asked for some vegetables- 2 whole carrots on a plate arrived!! At breakfast which was included in the room rate I asked for a hot chocolate as I don’t drink tea, coffee or juice. I was told this would be an extra charge 😱 What on Earth? I have stayed in hundreds of hotels all over the world from no stars to 6 stars and never ever have I been charged extra for a breakfast hot chocolate! Only good thing I can say is the bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean. You really could and should be doing better Ellington Lodge! …
There was ample parking, and the room was alright, however at the price being charged I wasn't overly impressed with the room. It smelt very musty and we had to open the windows as soon as we arrived. The décor is also very dated and could do with some updating. However, at the back of the hotel is gorgeous with a big green area and a small stream running between the hotel and the Mouldy Fig restaurant. We sat outside the Mouldy Fig for drinks and ate in the restaurant for dinner. It was lovely and serene. I don't want to complain too much but when we arrived it looked like one lady was training another. The lady being trained was very nice and polite but the other one wasn't at all welcoming. First impressions weren't very good.
We stayed here for one night and would say that the stay was pleasant enough although we did have to change room as the initial one smelt musky! Room definitely would need updating but for an overnight stay it was OK for us. The hotel location is good with nice gardens to walk around by the stream. Breakfast is very good, really did enjoy that and nice staff. Will I be back? Umm..Yes but management do need to update their rooms and I may stay a little longer next time! :-)
