Overall the team were trying their best with entertainment program, the food was okay. A couple of incidents, one at the pool (where the signs clearly state no diving) a family of 8 kept jumping and splashing water at us. Talking to the family they asked us to leave the pool there were no staff around to enforce the policy. I brought it to the reception desk with no resolution The tour to the Mayan ruins and the scenic caves was a disaster, connect2 go selling a package that the price increased by $USD the next day (without letting us know, it was captured only when we got the receipt) When we tried to pay in CAD instead of USD with their personal currency converter it came up to 472 CAD and the agent didnt accept the CAD $1 coin and claimed he accepts only paper bills (Bank of Canada doesnt issue a $1 paper bill but they were not aware of that and we were forced to pay by USD using their conversion rate) - Dont travel with any other money other than USD Booking the tour, there were no COVID policies or any requirements for masks till we were already on the bus closer to the ruins area where the tour guide advised that a mask is mandated at the entrance for the ruins (not inside) again forced to buy 2 masks for $3 USD to use them for less than 5 seconds when arguing witht he guide he claimed he is not responsible that the sales agent didnt share this information with us before we book the tour (they work for the same company) Beach was full of seaweed and we were not able to access the beach in the hotel or nearby hotels The restaurant booking system doesn't allow you to modify your booking, we booked 3 restaurants prior to our arrival as recommended on the hotel website While tours and activities are only available upon your arrival to the hotel. We pre reserved the brazilian restaurant but due to the tour availability only on the same day we couldn't reschedule the restaurant and we lost the chance to try it…
My family and I just returned from this resort. It was our 6th visit. We are from England and we used to visit this resort every year but because of Covid we have had to wait a few years. We always loved this resort and to be honest we don’t like it when good things change. So when we learnt that the hotel was going through a major refurbishment, at first we were worried. We had no need to worry. The changes they have made to the hotel have made it even more AMAZING. Something we thought was impossible. GROUNDS- stunning! The new colour scheme of the villas really compliment the vegetation and it looks so classy. Everything is well maintained and clean. The staff take such good care of the whole resort. FOOD- a good standard. The Yucatan Buffet has plenty of choice. The service in the buffet is good. Francisco and Ezekiel are outstanding. They are excellent servers. The rest of the servers we experienced in the Yucatan Buffet were not as good and, especially at breakfast, it was a struggle to get hot tea. I don’t know, maybe those servers were new to the job and were still learning but we still had a great experience. The new Food Truck is AMAZING! They have really improved this facility. You order your food via touch screen and they have great choices. It is clean and really pleasant. The staff there are very attentive and, although it is self-serve, they always offer to get drinks for you and collect your food. They do not expect tips, they do this because they want to be helpful. Jose at the food truck was excellent! There were other restaurants that we didn’t experience this trip but we have done so in the past. ENTERTAINMENT- this resort has lots of entertainment to choose from. There is a different show in the theatre most nights and lots of live music throughout the evening. We loved Karaoke and we think they should have more Karaoke nights. 1 night a week in the hotel is not enough! The entertainment staff are very friendly and they really want you to have a good time. The entertainment staff that really stood out to us were Eduardo, Erica, Fernanda, Diana, Efran, Edgar, Naomi, Gretel, Jesus and Gabriel. They always made an effort to talk to us and ask us how our vacation was going. There are lots of activities throughout the day, especially if you are sporty. We loved playing Bingo every day! We did the new Origin show, which you have to pay for, and it was good. However, we did really miss the Mexican Fiesta that used to take place at the Hacienda. We would love to see the Mexican Fiesta return as it was such a special night. Please bring it back! KIDS/MINI CLUB- if you have kids, this service is fantastic. They seem to be well-staffed and the staff are so great with the kids. 2 days per week they have a show that the kids rehearse for and star in. It’s amazing! If you are visiting this resort and you have little ones, be sure to let them try the kids club. There is a teens club too where they can play video games and participate in different sports and the staff seem really fun and great with them. ROOMS- we stayed in one of the newly refurbished rooms. It was gorgeous. Very clean and spacious. Our maid, Blanca, was excellent. The new rainfall shower is fantastic. The TV is great too and now you can watch Netflix and YouTube free of charge as long as you have an account, which is amazing and a very welcomed change! Some of the rooms have not yet been remodelled so make sure you ask for one of the new rooms when you book. BEACH- I’m not going to talk much about the beach as we don’t go to this resort for the beach. There is a lot of seaweed. They work very hard to clean it up as much as possible but the seaweed is actually caused by tourism so it is a vicious circle. We don’t mind the seaweed but I know some people do. BELL SERVICES- excellent! They do not want you to carry anything- they want to take care of you and make sure you are relaxing. Even when you are leaving, they do not allow you to carry your luggage down the stairs, they will help you right up until you get on your transportation. That is 5 star service to us! OVERALL- This resort is perfect for us. It is paradise and that is why we will always return. People will write bad reviews but we believe a vacation is what you make of it. If you look for the negative things then that is all you will see. I did not think that this resort could get any better, but the changes they have made have made it outstanding. The staff are wonderful and will do anything to help you. They all want you to enjoy your vacation. The wildlife is gorgeous and it is a beautiful paradise. Thank you so much Bahia Principe and hopefully we will see you again real soon!…
My family returned this past week from the Tulum resort. I traveled with my husband, my mom and our 4 kids ages 17, 20, 20 and 21. We loved it! The resort is very clean and the rooms are immaculate and spacious. We had 3 rooms in building 46. Our building was the furthest from the main lobby. pool and buffet. We had to walk about 1/4 mile from our building to the main lobby. Next time I would request a building closer to the main hub of the resort. Our building did have a pool that was less crowded than the main pool and was very close to the beach. The beach was pretty much unusable because of the seaweed. The resort tried very hard to clean it up but too much to control. We were disappointed that there was no snorkeling at this resort. The main pool had lots of games and activities for the guests to participate in. Live music added to the fun. The music at the main pool in the evening was very fun. Our kids loved the silent disco. They also loved going to the Hacienda for live music and to hang out with friends they met. We didn't like the sit down restaurants but found the buffet to have great food that was always fresh and different. The omelet station was always consistent. Our kids especially liked the pizza and pasta bar. Always fresh fruit available too. I would highly recommend this resort and would not hesitate to stay at another Bahia in the future. Ignore the negative reviews. Some people just want to complain.…
What an amazing holiday!! Couldn’t recommend more! A huge thank you to all the staff - especially Rodrigo and Gretal in the entertainment team and Edwin, Lucia, Lucio and Elena in the restaurant who made our trip! We left genuinely upset to leave these people. The best service I’ve ever received. I can’t put into words how great everyone was- a holiday of a lifetime! My only issue was I struggled as a vegetarian- veggie options were there but same utensils and plates were used for all resulting in meat in all the vegetarian options. I did inform the chefs but due to me not speaking Spanish I’m not sure if they understood. I’ve seen many compliments about the seaweed and it is bad but every day there are people sweeping the seaweed off the beach so clears later in the day. Very very impressed. Well done all Bahia staff!…
Visited this hotel over 10 years ago so was a bit apprehensive of returning but did not need to be as it was amazing as we remembered or even better. We had previously stayed at Coba and Akumal. The rooms have been renovated in Tulum so are modern and practical. Buffet food was good and the breakfast was amazing. Tried Don Pablo, the Trattoria, le Gourmet and the Mexican Tequila restaurants which were all very good. Only one that we didn’t like was the Mexican which was basically an up rated version of the buffet even though the food was good we were expecting a table service meal. The shows at night in the theatre were OK but I’d say the set up at Coba is better with the bar and open area. Entertainment during the day round the pool was excellent. The entertainment staff work tirelessly to keep things going. Yoga and Pilates each day with Joseva we’re great and catered for all levels. Bottom pool with the bar did get a bit busy and was more of a party pool. Top two pools were quieter and there were two other pool areas which we did visit during the day so can’t say how busy they were. Can’t fault any of the staff and the service was great all round: very accommodating and friendly. Only comment is that the some of the services are not the quickest but I’d say just be a bit patient and not get too angry: seen a few guests going over the score because they had to wait a few minutes for their burger or because their coffee was slow at being poured. Just take a minute and look at how busy the staff actually are. Beach has changed a bit since last time and suffers from seaweed (a global warming problem apparently). They do have staff continually clearing it up and it is a thankless task. Played the golf course and it is amazing although very difficult: lot of water and very tight. There is a discount for hotel guests at $99 a round plus $50 for club hire it is well worth it. Too many positives to mention in this review.…
Staff can never do enough to assist and help you. So friendly. The kitchen staff work tirelessly to ensure you get the food you want. The entertainment team are amazing with adults and children alike. The room staff are working constantly to ensure the rooms are clean and kept. Waiting staff are constantly ensuring your refreshed and kept topped with a drink. The bar staff work hard constantly to serve the guests, cocktails constantly. The security staff are fabulous, helping you to the room with your cases, collecting your cases before your departure. The drivers that work all hours to get people to where they need to be. The cleanliness of the hotel is beyond anywhere else we have been. The facilities are Fantastic, the children's park and water park, the party pool so upbeat and fun. Not a single bad thing to write about this hotel. WE WILL BE BACK!!…
Beautiful resort! This was one of the best holidays that we ever had. The resort is balanced with the mixed tropical rainforest vegetation and you can encounter animals such as iguanas, coatis, raccoons, agoutis and many more, such a great experience. The buffet was great and I really enjoyed the food that was provided. I really want to highlight that I'm very grateful for the whole staff because they are what made our holiday amazing. From the waiters, bartenders, and especially the entertainment team, they always made an effort to put a smile on your face. Egdar, Eduardo, Naomi, Gretel, Tania and rest of the entertainment team, thank you all for the laughs, you guys are awesome!
My family and I (2 adults with 10yo and 9yo) spent a lovely week at the Bahia Principe Grand Tulum. The pool, the theater, the food was wonderful. The kids specifically our 9yo daughter had a great time at Kids Club. The staff were bilingual and welcoming. They had great activities and put on shows with the kids 3 times during the week that my daughter especially enjoyed. If was a great experience for her and we thank the staff for a job very well done. My 10yo son enjoyed the pools and the kid pool with slides and activities that kept him occupied. My SO and I enjoyed the restaurants (La Grand Tortuga, Mediterranio (Coba) and Mikado (Coba) and the bars. The buffet was diverse and well staffed. We stayed in a 2 Bedroom suite overlooking the dolphin enclosure so we had a view of the daily dolphin tricks, had two balconies, 2 bathrooms and the room was big enough for the 4 of us. The beaches in Tulum do still suffer from a seaweed problem but the staff work to remove much of it weekends. Seaweed didn't bother me but it might bother you. Bonus of this hotel is that it is 10 mins from Xel-ha which you should go to and 30 mins from Xcaret which we thoroughly enjoyed as well.…
The worst accommodation I have ever stayed in, I will never recommend this place to anyone! Whenever an issue arises, they never attempt a resolution, just make excuses (a few to mentioned below). There were some really nice people working there, but the lack of training meant it was really hit & miss. 1. The app to book the ‘a la carte’ dinners is useless, always going down or not working. Unable to book ‘a la carte’ restaurants due to them being fully booked up by returning guests that book before arrival. 2. The food is atrocious! The food in the buffet is lukewarm & all the bread is stale. We dreaded every evening we had to go there for dinner. The buffet hall is also infested with birds, coati’s & raccoons. Some of the restaurants are slightly better, Italian was average but tried to serve us warm rose, their excuse was the fridges were broken. The Mexican & Brazilian were actually buffet too which were false advertised, so basically we only got 4/6 ‘a la cartel’ dinners. The Japanese restaurant was a complete disaster, 30 minutes in the waiting room, when seated another 30 mins to get a drink, food came out cold & staff kept forgetting our order. In the end, after 3 hours we just had to leave. 3. Drinks were very inconsistent. The same drink being made different depending on the where & how made it. 4. The room was never cleaned to a 5 star standard. In a 2 week stay, bed sheets never changed & floors not washed. The shower flooded the room & window let in light all night. 5. Our apartment block was close to the beach, which meant the men who cleared the red tide (seaweed) would be making noise from 5:30 am most mornings with tractors driving by the room. 6. Upon arrival we were made pay a eco tax, just another pleasant surprise! 7. We organised a buggy to collect us with our bags when leaving, buggy never arrived so we had to walk to reception.…
We are leaving later today. Here is my evaluation. This was a great vacation for our family. We absolutely loved our experience. Positives STAFF - the one, even in much nicer and more expensive hotels or cruises, I have never had the personalization of service that we had here. People called me by my name and were extremely friendly. Henry in the buffet restaurant is the absolute best. We had a family of seven and he always had our table ready for us. He was personable with our entire family. Total professional. Gretel from Animación was also super personable. She mingled with people at the restaurant, getting to know them, and inviting them to participate with the entertainment team. The magician was great. He spent time long after the kids show working with the kids. At the night show (don’t miss it), he was very engaging with the audience and stayed for over an hour doing more tricks for kids. Nearly all of the staff that I interacted with went out of their way to make our stay great. The pools are not over crowded. The buffet has a great variety of food. The qualify of the food was superb. I have been at resorts where the food seemed to be the same thing day after day. I did not feel like this at this resort. There are lots of options. If you want pizza every meal, you can but if you want to change it up, you can do this as well. The rooms are ample and it was quiet. The resort is not so large that you are worn out going from one place to another. Free wifi! Each of our rooms has four connections for wifi. We found it pretty good service and speed. Don’t try to upload movies but it was sufficient for a couple of work meetings and general communication. Wifi also makes communicating with others in your group really easy! Needs work The checkin process took about half an hour. This is unfortunately the norm at resorts like this. When they say your room will be ready at 3. Count on 3. If they can get you in early, they will but don’t expect it and get upset if it doesn’t happen. Be patient with the folks working checkin. It isn’t their fault that the line is long but it is something that happens when two your busses show up at the same time. The App - I found the app pretty much useless. It needs work. We (like many others) were not able to pick our rooms beforehand. We also couldn’t do express checkout on the app because of some glitch. Rooms - the non-updated rooms are a little old looking. They are not bad rooms, they just do not look as modern as the updated rooms. They are also cheaper… so I can’t complain 🙂 we didn’t spend a lot of time in the room so it wasn’t a big deal. I was very surprised at the tv options - there were a lot of English stations to choose from. Finally… Excursions and other things we did. We went to the cenote grand tortuga. This was a great get away - it is about five minutes from the hotel. If you are adventurous, you can save money and go on the colectivo on the highway, but your tickets there, and it will be much cheaper. That said, you can also contact Tolum Tours - $35 is all inclusive price of transportation, life vest, park entrance, and guide. Brazilian restaurant- bring an appetite. Wow! Lots of meat. Great service. Japanese show restaurant. Great show, great food, friendly service. Know that Mexico is a tipping culture. Tips are greatly appreciated. It can be in your currency or in pesos. You shouldn’t feel like you need to constantly tip, but if someone has taken care of you all week, it is a nice gesture to reward them for their hard work. Things to bring. - large cup or tumbler for drinks. The provide cups are small. - sunscreen as it is expensive here - some have said mosquito repellent - we did not have any issues with mosquitos - a lightweight extension cord - our room had two outlets and neither were near the bed. - a positive attitude I am going to miss my morning coffee view.…
