Hotel Basalto was lovely! I wish we could have stayed more than 2 nights here. Room 101 is hands down one of the best hotel rooms we have ever stayed in! The Ocean View from the comfortable King bed and spacious balcony are unbeatable. The soaker tub in the room with bubble bath and salts was so relaxing. The sound of the waves crashing against the rocks in front of the property is mesmerizing. The hotel restaurant was tasty with a great included breakfast. To access a good safe spot to swim in the ocean you must take a short walk southwest of the hotel to the nearby beach Playa Careyeros. The sand is soft and the waves are excellent and very salty. Water was a little chilly in April. If ocean swimming isn’t your thing, there is a beautiful rooftop pool at the hotel with stellar views. This place is a Hidden Gem!

Well, it’s our last day and night here, so I thought I’d share my take on this spot. Firstly let me say it is a unique spot to stay and our room is very comfy. I have a side view of the ocean which is fine. And the waves crashing are a great sleeping aid. I want to comment on all the reviews that were made about the great food and staff. We have had an entirely different experience. The food is really just okay, not as great as some have said. And the service was so so. Hit or miss. I guess it may depend on the time of year or who the servers are. We just found that they would rather stand and talk to one another than check on you. Anyway, that is just sad as we expected more than what I read from past guests. I think I would stay here again and go out for dinner and lunch to places nearby. There weren’t a lot of crowds so thinking they were doing just that. Breakfast was probably the best meal if I have to say anything about the food. I just hope people read this and realize that everyone’s experience isn’t going to be the same. And you make the best of what you can to enjoy your time and make it a good holiday...

Stayed for 5 nights over Christmas holiday. We had an oceanfront room. Amazing views. While I was a bit hesitant to stay at a hotel this small, it was just about perfect. This is a wonderful small hotel that has all of the amenities of a much larger resort. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. Loved having sunset cocktails on the upstairs deck. Carlos makes some amazing drinks! All of the staff were tremendous. They went above and beyond at every opportunity. From the front desk to waitstaff (Jorge/Zaira) to the man who never stops Francisco, all did whatever was needed with a smile. Can't wait to make a return trip!

Hotel Basalto My family and I decided to stay at Hotel Basalto on a staycation for 3 nights and I must say, we were so pleasantly surprised. The property is a small boutique hotel situated on a beautiful beach with access to only a 3 to 5-minute stroll, down the road. The rooms are well-appointed and extremely comfortable and equipped. The restaurant, overlooking the majestic ocean, offers a fabulous menu, so if you are a foodie, you will really enjoy it! Every dish was perfectly prepared and the flavors and combinations would satisfy even the most discerning of palates. To top it all off, the staff is so nice….and I mean, SO NICE!!! They assisted us with everything we needed and played with our 6-year-old son which allowed us to enjoy our dinner! They truly went over and above the line of duty and our son didn’t want to leave at the end of our stay. The pool is rooftop, offering spectacular views, a relaxation area overlooking the jungle with hammocks where you can sit and enjoy a good read. They serve drinks and food at the rooftop bar, which were excellent and they could whip up anything you asked for because they have an incredible service-oriented staff and want to please you. The beach is absolutely incredible and offers a couple of kilometers of pristine, untouched white sands and clear blue seas. I love kite surfing and I enjoyed kiting during our stay and it was a great spot for when the winds allowed. Thank you to all the team and we will definitely be back soon. Leo H. LDMJL

We stayed here for 3 days because we like to surf, (its a paradise for that) - and the views/rooms/service was just different from elsewhere. SUCH a unique atmosphere, and the most terrific views of the pacific sea. In this area, is it also so much cheaper than all the other luxury hotels. We will ONLY be staying here in the future! THANK YOU!!!

If you are looking for a a relaxing yet indulging experience, hotel basalto is for you. My boyfriend and I have been here twice now and will be back for another visit. The interior design is beautiful down to every detail. The second we first pulled up, we were immediately greeted by staff and vacation had officially begun. The entire staff is extremely nice and accommodating and then cleanliness is 10/10. Our favorite part is the rooftop pool and the private beach the hotel is located on. It’s a secluded and intimate hotel to bring your partner or small family. Entertain is walking distance as well. I cannot wait to come back

My girlfriend and I stayed here for two nights as an extension to a three day stay at the Iberostar down the road, and are so happy that we did! Perfect for a relaxing, private seaside escape. Rooms: extremely clean, spacious, and well designed. Enjoyed the large walk-in shower and coffee setup. Bed and AC made the nights very comfortable. Food: Delicious meals and top notch service at the hotel restaurant Roca Negra. Since we were only there for 48 hrs we ate all our meals on-site. Menu is diverse enough that this was no problem, and had no complaints about any dishes we tried (excellent steak tacos and seafood). The cocktails were a highlight as well - the rooftop bar serves excellent drinks with great views of the coast. Also felt that the value for the quality and portions were very good. Worth going for the restaurant alone. Hotel and Grounds: Loved the rooftop pool adjacent to the bar and hammock area, which we had to ourselves for much of the mid-day. Lower pool was nice to sit out in the sun as well. Beach area as other reviews have mentioned is small and rocky - but you'll be enjoying the wonderful ocean view and drinks poolside anyway that this is hardly an issue. All staff were super friendly and attentive. Felt very well cared for during our stay. Next time would stay longer and use as a launching point to explore Sayulita / Punta de Mita, probably best done with a rental car, though taxis are available from the front desk. Would absolutely return and recommend to other couples / small groups visiting the Puerto Vallarta area. Note on accessibility: I did not notice an elevator on premises. While this did not affect our stay at all, this may important to some travelers with accessibility concerns.

We stayed here for 4 days and loved it. Lets go over what to expect. 1. The rooms. There are only 10 rooms (I think) and 4 are ocean front. We had 101 and it was the larger of the 2 sized ocean front rooms. There are 2 side rooms with small patios that have limited views of the ocean and then there are again 2 larger rooms and 2 smaller rooms with large patios facing a cow pasture and the dirt road you use to get to the hotel. I suggest 101 as the one above us might get a little music noise from the roof top pool. The rooms are super clean and modern with unreal views of the pacific. 2. There are 2 pools. The lower pool is smaller but has a larger patio. The roof top area has a bar and a much larger pool and some couches in the shade but a smaller deck area. We always went to the lower pool and had the entire place to ourselves for 4 days. 3. The beach. From the pics on line, it looks like the beach is about as big as a 2 car garage and that you might get swept away by a wave but that's not the beach. You go down the stairs to the rock ledge on the left and then easily walk around the point about 100' and a perfect 300 yard long picture perfect beach opens up in front of you. And it is sealed off on the other end by another rock point so there is rarely anyone on it. It's perfect. And the snorkeling directly in front of the small beach among the black rock outcroppings is top notch. Tons of fish. 4. Dining. The food is really good. Better than in town with great service and really low prices compared to restaurant row in town. And on that note, town is only about 10 minutes away and the hotel can hail a taxi for you and its 14 bucks to get to town (20 with tip) and then 20 again to get back. You can have a really nice meal and 2 of the best Pina Coladas ever for the same 40 bucks you will spend on a taxi. We ate dinner here 2 out of our 4 nights after we figured out we were paying around 125.00 to 175.00 bucks, including taxi fair in town versus spending 40 bucks including tip for a better meal with a far better view right here at the hotel. Carlos, Edgar and Alexi were our private chefs every evening. We ate at 7 or 730 every night and had the whole place to ourselves despite the fact that there were 5 or 6 other couples staying here. These guys, and everyone else for that matter, couldn't have been any nicer or more polite. And they really care about your meal and it shows. The 4 shrimp tacos appetizer is splittable and the best we have ever had-ever. All in all, this place is great. If you want to relax and work on that book you've been wanting to finish or catch some rays and sip on the best Pina Colada you've ever tasted or go hang out on what turns out to be a private beach, then this is your place.

This was our final stay after visiting Marival Armony and the W Resort. It wasn’t even close how relaxing and outstanding this resort is compared to the others. Hands down this was our favorite and it wasn’t even close. If you’re looking for a relaxing quiet spot to just unwind that happens to have the best beachfront views we’ve ever experienced (and we’ve traveled globally), this is the place. Staff is incredible, food is great. You’re close walking distance to a variety of really cool “hidden” beaches. We really enjoyed our stay!
