Detailed Reviews
This area of the Sunshine Coast is to be remembered! Great hiking trails through old growth forest, scenic paths along the coastline and beaches, and great local hospitality.
Adrian, our host, was very accommodating and prepared delicious breakfasts.
The rooms are beautiful, very clean and comfortable and the amenities that the hotel offers, from steam room and hot tub to ocean kayaks, snorkels and canoes was greatly appreciated.
They even have an awesome viewing room with great surround sound, large screen and a huge library of dvds.

As we wait for our breakfast to be delivered on our morning of departure, let me tell you why we will be rebooking and returning soon to the lovely Tuwanek hotel B&B..
Coming from Vancouver this place is a short beautiful journey.. you get to enjoy the ferry trip across to Gibsons then a beautiful drive up the Sunshine Coast.
Upon arriving we were greeted by our friendly host Adrian who happily toured us around the property.. the series of stepped patios included a hot tub, steam room, beach access, fire pit, bbq area and so on. Then it was off to our room.
We chose the African queen suite (highly recommend) beautiful big king size bed, wood burning stove, large patio, incredible shower and tub!! The list goes on...
Needless to say we had a lovely evening and restful sleep.. then breakfast is delivered by our always pleasant host Adrian. (See the photo) delicious is an understatement.
Beautiful place, lovely people.. stay in or get out and enjoy the area. We chose to take a short 4x4 adventure up tetrahedron mountain.
See you soon Tuwanek Hotel

This hotel is definitely worth checking out. It’s actually more like a B&B. Situated in the perfect waterfront location ideal for kayaking and paddle boarding. All provided by the hotel. Quaint with everything you need and beautifully presented. The room was delightful with mood lighting, Music on demand and we had our own private family room with coffee machine & pool table. The hotel boasts lovely waterfront views and offers quant seating areas to meditate and enjoy the views. Outdoor hot tub and steam room. I could not say enough about this place. Just book it. Adrian our host cooked up 3 amazing breakfasts and were amazingly presented. We are def going to return.

My daughter and I wanted a short escape to the Sunshine Coast. We were delighted with our stay at the Tuwanek hotel. This hotel has themed rooms. We had the Sunset room downstairs. This offered us access to a sitting room across the hall which had coffee machine, kettle, pool table, large screen TV and wet bar. Popcorn and popcorn maker were also available. Our room had a microwave and extra dishes in the kitchenette area. We loved our view out over the water. All rooms have ocean view and private outside seating. The host is very helpful and showed us around the the property. There are canoes available which due to the weather we did not use. The property and location are beautiful and we wished we could have stayed longer. There is a delightful little beach across the way and another beach a few minutes away. Hidden Groves about 2 km away has a delightful myriad of walking trails. Porpoise Bay Provincial Park is close by and has a lovely sandy beach. The area has much to offer. Take a day to drive north along Hwy101 to Egmont. Stop at Halfmoon Bay, the historic General Store has excellent coffee From Egmont do the hike to the Skoocumchuck Rapids. Its an easy 8-9 km forest walk. Check the tide tables for times of maximum current. A large tide change makes for some impressive viewing of the rapids. Spend some time browsing through the shops in Gibsons. You'll likely find something you want to take home.

Unfortunately, I recommend not staying at the Tuwanek Bed & Breakfast Hotel & Spa in Sechelt. The owner/manager (Donna) treated us very unfairly as a way of squeezing us for the most money possible. We reserved two rooms (one for my wife and me, and the other for our son and his girlfriend). Our son and his girlfriend weren’t able to come because a week before the trip she got Covid. As soon as we learned about it (5 or 6 days before our scheduled arrival) we phoned Donna to let her know that we only needed one room, and we were very disappointed when she said that we still had to pay for two rooms. Given Covid, this seemed especially unfair (other hotels and B&Bs have made humanitarian allowances for Covid). We then asked Donna if she would please try to rent the room to another party, and she said that she would. The next day we looked on the hotel’s website, and were pleased that it listed all 3 of their rooms as “sold.” We were relieved that we wouldn’t have to pay for two rooms, and when my wife phoned to confirm this Donna said that she hadn’t rented the other room but rather she couldn’t modify the hotel’s website! This was extremely unfortunate and unfair given that we were the ones who would be stuck paying the bill. Also we had to commit to a 3-day stay even though we only wanted 1 or 2 days. Yet the young woman who stayed in the third room was there for only 2 days. A less significant but still important point is that the beds in the rooms are exceedingly soft and uncomfortable. My wife and I disliked the B&B and the way that Donna treated us so much, we departed a day early. Over the next while I asked Donna multiple times if she would reimburse us for some of the charge given what had happened, and she ignored my emails for weeks. When I persisted she simply sent me her standard cancellation policy and refused to respond to the points that I describe above. The Rockwater Secret Cove Resort in Sechelt, which many of our friends stayed in at the same time that we were at Tuwanek, would have been a much better place for us to stay. Donna treated us unfairly, and I hope that she doesn’t do this to any other guests in the future.
P.S. One of the first things Donna said to us when we arrived was that there were several bears in the area!

The hotel was amazing. Spectacular views. Great amenities. Host was amazing. Had the African Queen room and it was excellent. Right out from the classic movie. Peaceful, quiet, and tranquil. The hotel has a Tesla charger for those that owns a Tesla. Will definitely return.

We will definitely return. Although we were only able to spend 1 night (a rainy Thanksgiving) here we felt like we had taken a mini vacation. We stayed in ‘The African Queen’ Room. It was exquisitely furnished with attention to every detail. It was thoughtfully stocked and Adrian was very attentive and helpful. It is a perfect location with waterfront access and well equipped beach activities. I would love to return to enjoy the spa services.

My fiancée and I stayed for 2 nights. It’s one of the most serene, peaceful place you can imagine. We loved waking up with the mountains and feel the cold air on our faces. The view was amazing. Donna was very friendly and willing to help you all the way. And of course, the breakfast, oh, it’s superb. I love making a fancy and yummy breakfast, but theirs was the best. Forgive me, but will try to copy and make it at home 😜 Definitely a place to visit and will go back to bring the whole family next time.
