We haven't traveled much during the pandemic, but we always enjoyed the breakfasts provided. I can't wait until this pandemic is over and we return to some more breakfast choices. Here they had coffee pots set up which was good (the in room coffee left a lot to be desired) and we were offered garb 'n go bags of an apple, pre-packaged muffin and a granola bar. Don't get me wrong, I understand why they have to do this, I just miss the old breakfasts. I have to give the credit too - at the hotel we stayed in on the way down, we didn't even get any fruit.
I stayed on the 3rd floor, there were around 8-10 Brazilian teenagers seemingly living on this floor. Having checked in around 6pm, it was very noisy almost constantly from then. I didnt bother too much early on, as kids need to enjoy themselves and I figured the parents would control them later, but it just continued, I asked them several times after 10pm to be quiet, usually it worked for 5 minutes, then it all started again, continuously shouting down the corridor, moving between rooms banging on doors, playing loud music. I tried to get the front desk to make them be quiet or kick them out, I know at least twice they came up to the room and I know they could see them on CCTV. They said they didnt know who was supposed to be incharge of these Brazilian kids, which is unacceptable, they cant stay unaccompanied and should have someone known incharge of them to control them. I guess it was them who set the fire alarm off around 0130, but even after that they werent quiet, It finally started to calm down after 2am and I was able to sleep some, so probably got around half of a night's sleep.
I then find at breakfast that the place is full of Brazilian woman, talking and shouting and playing music! perhaps these are the mothers of these kids? although they were just sat around during the time I had breakfast, they later started working cleaning rooms.
Thus it would seem it was not the case of just random guests keeping me awake half the night, it was kids of people who worked in the hotel and probably live there, thus fully the responsibility of the hotel.
Totally unacceptable that these kids can just run riot and no one control them.
Given I was kept awake half the night I asked for a 50% refund, the front desk staff, said they couldnt authorise it and would have to ask the manager, but would make sure something was done. Well I got an email with a new reciept with a less than 20% discount and not one word of apology. The manager obviously just doesnt care and is happy for these kids to run riot.
apart from that the hotel was ok, but this isnt just a case of anti social hotel guests on one night, presumably they are there long term.
I advised the clerk that I had to get on the road early and could not wait for maid service to clear the room.
Made no difference.
Thus extra $50 was not mentioned on Wyndham.com or anywhere else at the time of booking.
I got a refund for the total charge right then and there and stayed at The comfort Inn. Across the hwy. they had no such extra fee.
Last time I’m staying at a Wyndham.
Elevator worked great but looked rough. Probably just wear and tear as this seems to be an older Microtel. Hallway carpets could use a scrubbing as they looked pretty rough with stains. Room itself was nice! Spacious, very clean, comfortable temperature and quiet A/C.
Only negative issues were maintenance/upkeep. Hotel clearly keeps a good staff and a clean property, just needs some maintenance help. For example, the window in our room was cracked - and the recessed kleenex box in the bathroom was broken with no cover.
So in short: good location, nice staff, clean rooms, breakfast better than expected, maintenance needs some funding.
The staff were poorly trained and immediately seemed offended that we wanted to review the bill to confirm a senior's discount was applied correctly.
Overall, the establishment seems poorly managed and maintained. The employee we dealt with was not empowered to make any decision and had no management support. We won't be returning.
The next morning one of our neighbor’s microwaves malfunctioned. The entire floor smelled like burnt food. When the man in the room alerted staff to the problem, they literally mocked him—telling him to just open a window. Absolutely appalling.
The only upside were the other guests, who has a “we’re all in this together” mentality.
