The accommodation is clean and the room we had, had a renovated bathroom which was very nice, light and bright with a nice shower, good lighting and ventilation. The kitchenette was very convenient with a toaster/kettle, microwave and basic crockery/cutlery and fridge.

The room itself which is not as modern as the bathroom & kitchenette, but updated and clean had a comfortable bed, small tv and an old but working air conditioner. Good block out curtains, so you go a good night’s sleep.

The property had a nice pool, onsite bar/restaurant which was busy at night, loads of on-site parking and the accommodation is close to all of Hyden’s attractions and town centre.

What lets this Hotel/Motel down is the check-in and lack of customer service. When we arrived there was no one was on reception, we rung the bell and waited, rung the bell again and waited, wandered around the whole restaurant and hotel reception area and waited and then finally after a considerably long time we went to the public bar where the guy said he will be right with us to check us in and considerable time later he turned up and checked us in. Once in the room we only had one towel, so we went back to the public bar to get another towel only to be given two bath mats?

The accommodation for its remoteness is nice, it is well located to Hyden’s attractions and clean, but the lack of customer service or care lets this place down. The person that checked us out was delightful and very efficient and we wondered where he was when we checked in?

Great halfway stop on Esperance route if not in a hurry. Facilities were better than other smaller towns on the way. Bathroom has been upgraded but the taps say 1970s. We had a queen bed room with a soft and comfortable mattress. Evening meal was from a buffet mostly vegetarian (cook yourself meat is available) which we enjoyed although the beans and some other vegies were boiled into submission when steaming would produce a crunchier result. A glass of wine and a chocolate sundae completed the meal. WiFi didn't connect probably because of the demand from a full tour bus which pulled in with us. Quiet at night and a stroll in the morning is recommended.

The room was okay. Very dark but exactly what we expected for our overnight stay. There was a microwave and basic cutlery and crockery ( which unfortunately was dirty- we had to use the shower gel to wash it before we could use it)
The motel has a very high occupancy and a high volume of people only staying a night or two which puts housekeeping under a lot of pressure. So this isn’t a complaint. I presume that the previous occupants of our room left the crockery in the cupboard and the staff didn’t check it. Perhaps a small amount of washing up liquid could be provided?
The IGA supermarket close by had a good selection of surprisingly edible microwave meals to purchase.
We didn’t eat in the restaurant. When we left in the morning, there was a sign on the door saying that breakfast wasn’t available that day, which might have been a shock to some guests. The front door was actually locked and there was nowhere to leave the key. A fellow guest forced the doors apart, just enough for us to throw our keys inside. Perhaps a secure box could be provided such as other motels do?
In the defence of the motel it’s a small town with a limited amount of potential staff members. I presume that if one person is unexpectedly not at work, it creates a problem.
The location was super. It only took a few minutes to drive to the rock

When we arrived at the hotel they seemed to be very flustered and unorganised as the people in front of us that were checking in seemed to be unable to get there room. We booked a 3 single bedroom and when we arrived the room was clean and quite basic. It was difficult to see the TV from the location of one of the beds as to it being directly underneath it. The cell service was very bad and when we signed in on the WiFi it refused to work properly. The bathroom contained no body wash so we had to use one of the bars of hand soap. The shower splattered water everywhere and was extremely slippery. We went to the restaurant that night and it was catastrophic. We had to wait in a very long line and when we finally got to the front of the line we realized that the restaurant, that opened at 6:00 and stayed open until 9:00 was nearly out if meat by 6:30. The food was not at all worth what we paid for it. The had a system where you could cook your own meat, which the kids enjoyed but ruined the point in eating out. The buffet was terrible and the potatoes were cold. The table we sat at was very dark and it was difficult to see. When it came time we ordered desert and we overheard the waitress telling somebody to wait before ordering there desert as it would back up the kitchen. We ordered our treat at 7:52 and waited. We watched big familys receive there desert, ones that ordered after us. Many folks left. Finally, at 8:52, one our later, I received my apple pie, but my daughter still didn’t get hers. After about 10 more minutes we asked and the forgot and had to ask what she wanted again. Now my daughter ordered an ice cream Sundae, we had seen others get them in fancy glasses, and even though we hadn’t seen the actual food in them we imagined what you’d expect for a Sundae, ice cream and ice magic, whipped cream sprinkles and a cherry. My child ordered vanilla ice cream with chocolate ice magic and 100s and 1000s. She received a small scoop of vanilla ice cream in a plan bowl with chocolate sauce that doesn’t harden and no sprinkles 1 hour after she ordered. I had always known that it wasn’t going to be super fancy but this was much worse than I imagined. All in all the food was a complete dud with extremely slow service and the room was average just enough to get by for the night. We would come back to the motel for the rooms but we would highly recommend eating elsewhere. Overall, much more expensive that in is worth.

This place would be a covid super spreader location because it clearly never gets cleaned. I feel gross thinking about staying there. “Newly renovated” bathrooms? You still have to scrub the showers every now and then even if they’re brand new. There were short black hairs all over the allegedly new linen. There were no towels in one of the rooms and the other towel had used towels from the previous occupants.

We weren’t expecting luxury in this area given the location and distance from services however a basic standard of hygiene should be able to be expected.
Shower was dirty - clearly not cleaned between guests with lid found in the base of the shower, mould on shower curtain and on tiles etc.
Whole of bathroom floor wet including around toilet etc when we arrived.

There was a sign noting you had to ask if handtowel or washer required.

Kettle put away in drawer with water pooled that had drained out of it.

Limited food options so they have a monopoly on this. Basic meat free buffet $25 with extra payment required you want to buy and cook your own meat on the grill provided.
Overall great to visit and see the beautiful wave rock and surrounds.

We had a great stay at the Wave rock hotel motel - perfect location to explore wave rock and the dinner at the hotel was a good way to meet other travellers. It was a BBQ your own so lots of chatter around the BBQ. The hotel even had a bucket and window cleaner to wash all the red dust off your windscreen.

Stayed two nights on the way back from Esperance to Perth and to see the famous wave Rock. Remembering you're in a very small rural town it's all you could expect, clean room, comfortable bed, great food ( bbq you're own steaks is always fun). Wave Rock only 10 minutes drive, the rock itself is amazing but all the cafes and the small animal enclosure all closed due to lack of staff. Tremendous bakery in town. No compliants.

We had to cancel our self-drive holiday of WA due to the Perth COVID Lockdown in April 2021. We had paid for one night's accommodation at the Hyden Hotel, but had to cancel within 7 days of our arrival, which would normally attract a $40 fee. Spoke to "Gary" at the Hotel , explained the awkward situation as we were travelling from Qld, and he said a refund wouldn't be a problem, and to contact "Tony" on the Monday. This wasn't required as the full $150 was in our bank account the same day. Amazing customer service, and very much appreciated !! We will be undertaking our planned itinerary again, and will definitely be staying at The Hyden Hotel. Thanks again !!

What an interesting hotel/ motel ! It was decked out to cater for large groups or functions but I had the impression it was barely used for that. Maybe I was there for the off season ? Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The shower was wonderful. The meal in the bistro was value friendly.

Motel should be operating normally. Ring 08 9880 5052 to enquire of nightly charges & vacancies. Better to book direct. Cheaper than going through third parties. They have a nice bistro for meals. Definitely breakfast and dinner. I presume lunch as well. We spent 2 nights there & had a lovely stay. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Is there a fridge in the room and tea/coffee making facilities?

There was a fridge, kettle and microwave in our room. If these are important to you it would be wise to check before booking, as it appears that different rooms have different facilities.

Hi, it is a lovely walk and has many historic references along the elevated walkway. It is a long walk, allow an hour if fit and depending on time of year. The flies are a part of the experience, use a swich stick as you walk, apply insect repellent and take a backpack with extra water. Flies are attracted to the water in your eyes so wear glasses.

We paid $150 for the night. Just call the hotel directly to book.
