Hotel- Hampton Inn Yonkers-Westchester (Yonkers, NY)
Date- 24dec2022 through 10jan2023 (17 nights)
Title- Excellent Hampton property with friendly team that delivers reliably good service.

Overall: 5/5. Excellent. This property is a model for the Hampton brand in many ways, and with facility renovations underway and a management team dedicated & open to guest experience process improvement, this property sets a high standard for limited-service hotels in the area. Although we do not ordinarily frequent this pet friendly brand, we were impressed by the staff members, facility, and offerings as presented by the property. Our accommodations exceeded our expectations in cleanliness, upkeep, and spaciousness, and the location was perfect for what we needed to do in the area.

Loyalty & Brand Programs/Recognition- 5/5. Excellent. We were welcomed to the property & thanked for our loyalty as Diamond members. Our room was upgraded based on availability. We also noticed the availability of designated parking spaces for Diamond members near the entrance. The preferences in our profile were acknowledged, and we were offered water and a snack as our welcome amenity. Brand offerings, such as the morning breakfast from 6am until 10am daily, and the coffee/hot chocolate bar were mentioned, and other amenity offerings, like the pool and fitness center, were appropriately advertised.

Staff- 5/5. Excellent. The staff makes this hotel what is it, and it is excellent. We were checked into the property by Samantha, who was courteous and efficient. She ensured we knew of the amenities and offerings of the property. Although working the holidays, she, Salina, Travis, Jenny, & Kim were accommodating and went out of their way to ensure my spouse, pet, and I had everything we might need for the duration of our stay. The efforts Gladys makes to keep the tabletops, coffee station, and elevators clean are also appreciated! One can’t help but notice the level of guest engagement coming from the Armando, the Housekeeping Supervisor, who greeted guests all throughout the hotel, much like Safet, the Assistant General Manager, and Judy, the General Manager. It is clear that ensuring that guests have positive, memorable experiences and that development of long-term relationships with guests takes priority with these coach leaders.

Accommodations- 4/5. Very good. We were assigned a “1Kn Stdo Mic/Fridg/Wtbr NS” room type on this stay; we have stayed in the smaller King type of room before. Both rooms provide plenty of space, but we prefer the suite room with the better kitchenette. The room has a sofa bed, a tv table combination with chair, a bed with two nightstands, and the bathroom. In the bathroom, there is a closet for coats & clothing, a single vanity with plenty of counterspace, & a separated room for the commode & shower/tub combination. The fixtures are clean & well maintained. The biggest drawback is that when in your room, you will notice that you can hear when others above or in rooms beside you walk or talk loudly; sound transmits easily in the building, unfortunately.

Housekeeping- 4/5. Very good. Overall, the room was clean. The bed was made with comfortable and fresh smelling sheets, pillowcases, and blankets. Two body and hand towels were provided, as were two wash cloths, along with shampoo, conditioner, soap, toilet paper, facial tissues, etc., in a supply adequate for the length of an average stay. We were easily able to get additional supplies when we requested them, as we needed them throughout our stay. The floor was clean, both inside the room and in the hallways, stairwells, elevators, & common areas. The housekeeping staff was friendly, respected the Do Not Disturb sign, and worked quietly enough so as not to disturb working or sleeping guests. To improve this score, we recommend that housekeepers close the bathroom & toilet room door(s) and check the interior side for spills, stains, writing, etc. The front of the microwave doors, light switches, door handles, and other areas immediately adjacent to them may need additional attention, when possible. Otherwise, though, the room was well prepared for guests.

Pool/Gym: 5/5. Excellent. The pool is open 9am until 5pm. The 24hr fitness area is appropriately sized and contains a reasonable amount of equipment for guest use. Most of the equipment is functional; the pieces that aren’t functional are awaiting repairs by the manufacturer, we were told, when we asked. Towels were abundant. The television worked, and the remote was present. Sanitizing wipes were present to wipe off the equipment before and after use, and the room was regularly checked on by a staff member, who would pick up & organize and ensure the dirty towels and trash were removed. Water and disposable cups were readily available.

Breakfast/Meal Options-.5/5. Excellent. For a limited-service property, this hotel hits the mark. In addition to the small market beside the reception area, which offers primarily snacks, there is breakfast service each morning from 6am until 10am. The breakfast is better than at nearby limited-service properties, and the staff makes visible effort to keep the fruit juices, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals, waffle-making supplies, bakery items, & hot meat (sausage, bacon, etc.), omelets, & potatoes all in stock for guests. We noticed and appreciated that the hot food items have labels for those with special dietary needs (or even just curiosity). Seating in the lobby/dining area can become limited during busy times, and while tabletop and floor cleanliness can become challenging during and immediately after the busiest times of breakfast, the breakfast staff does a great job keeping up. We tried a variety of the food items available in the morning and found the food hot and fresh, even when brushing up against 10am, the closing time. The coffee/tea/hot chocolate area is continuously stocked with fresh coffee and hot water for guests.

Laundry- 5/5. Excellent. A keycard accessible self-service laundry facility is available for guests to use on the first floor, and a dirty laundry bag was provided in the closet for guest use. The washing machine costs $1.75; the dryers cost $1.00. The laundry room was routinely cleaned by housekeeping.

Computer/Printer/WiFi/social media- 4/5. Very good. A WiFi connection was easy to make, and once connected, streaming of music and movies was smooth and uninterrupted. A business center was available for guest use and included two computers and a printer. For social media, the hotel has established accounts on Facebook & Instagram, but they are mostly unmanaged.

Property Appearance & Maintenance- 5/5. Excellent. Effort is clearly made to maintain this property.
Exterior- 5/5. The edifice is newer, and no major flaws are evident. There is a large grassy area that surrounds just over half of the property, and immediately adjacent to the building there is a fenced in seating area, just outside the pool. The landscaping is well done; trees and plants that will flourish and require minimal maintenance surround the building and are in well-kept condition. The parking lot is relatively clean and debris-free, in comparison to the area at large, and trash receptacles are everywhere for guest use; they are emptied regularly. Employees were spotted sweeping and picking up several times throughout our stay. The entrance is clean, well branded, and offers a positive first impression.
Interior- 5/5. The two elevators were both functional. The corridor carpets were clean and relatively spot free, even though the color choice does show and exaggerate every imperfection; it is expected that the upcoming remodel will improve upon this. Scuffs and scrapes along the baseboards and bottom foot of the corridor walls and room doors are minimal and not distracting. No major problems with plumbing or HVAC systems were evident.

Other- Following this experience, we found ourselves thinking about this property long after leaving. Memorable as this stay was, we look forward to our future visits!

We stayed at the Hampton Inn for three nights. The Inn staff are hospitable and welcoming. The warm cookies and fresh fruit (apples and oranges) and coffee, tea, and infused water are a nice touch. The room was new and clean with a comfortable bed and fluffy white linens. It had a big flat screen TV. Pretty chaise lounge and neat modular seats that are portable. I moved one into the bathroom to sit for hair drying.

The ONLY thing that bothers me with every Hampton Inn I've stayed in is the individual AC/heating unit in each room. It's not modern central air. Instead each room has a ductless unit under the window that is controlled by the room occupant using an individual wall thermosat. Everytime it turns on adjusting to the thermostat, the blower fan makes a noise which awakes me all night long -- not restful.

We are always glad to see our guests enjoying their time here with us. With regard to the AC/heating unit and the noises it was making during the night, we apologize that is caused you disturbances and inadequate rest. If any of our guests are experiencing an inconvenience, our maintenance staff would be more than happy to come up and have a look at the problem. A comfortable, quiet stay is our top priority for all our guests. We hope to see you again very soon.

Let me just say that this place has the makings of a great tourist class hotel. The staff is very friendly and helpful. (Kudos to Jeff and Sean) The rooms are stylish, super clean and well maintained, (loved the barnyard bathroom door and curved shower rod). The hotel is located in a good location close to the Ridge Hill Mall, which is easily accessible by the free shuttle service (tell you about that later). Also, it accepts food delivery from various eateries. However, there are still a few missing pieces of the puzzle.
First, my room did not have a Hilton CleanStay Room seal. So, although it looked clean, there was no way to verify that the room hadn't been accessed since its last cleaning. Furthermore, there are no safes in any of the rooms. So, don't bring any valuables and you'll have to lock up your laptops/electronics in your suitcases.
Second, the pool is not open (sorry kids) and the free shuttle is not operating. This is disappointing since it is not listed anywhere on their website that the free shuttle service is not in operation.
Third, even though restrictions have been lifted, they are still not serving hot breakfast items. However, what they are offering is abundant and enough to stave off hunger.
Lastly, a $50/night hold was placed on my credit card. This caught me a little off guard because the amount is not listed anywhere on their webpage.
Nonetheless, in spite of these minor details, this is still a good tourist hotel. When they restore the free shuttle service, open the pool and expand the breakfast service, this hotel will be even better.

This places is a sham!
1. The pool is not open and has been closed for quite some time now. It cannot be
due to the COVID restrictions, since those were lifted on June 25th. Also, the
pool at the Hyatt Place is open daily.

2. The rooms are only cleaned upon request. In fact, you have to make a request
for maid services a day in advance. We stayed two nights and our room was
never cleaned the entire time because no one informed us about the policy when
we checked in.

3. There is no free shuttle service to the railroad as listed on the website. It would
have been nice if it took us to the Ridge Hill Mall for free. So, if you don't have a
car, be prepared to pay for Uber or Lyft.

4. A $50 per night hold will be placed on your credit card. This is outrageous! The
Hyatt Place (which is a better class hotel in my book) only charges $15/night.
Just imagine if you stayed for 7 nights, then a $350 hold on would be placed on
your credit card. Then you have to wait to get that back.

5. Okay, two positive things: there rooms are clean and the staff is friendly.

Great place to stay, is quiet everything was super clean everyone was very attentive always asking if i need anything. I’m not a city guy and if i have to comeback to NY i will stay here again for sure. The only thing that i would change is the indoor pool for an outdoor one but i guess weather is not helping.

Guests were unrecognizable by staff after the initial check in. Unless guests approached the desk, staff didn't get to know their guests to help make their stay more comfortable. Also, if you like the heavy odor of vicks vaporub on your pillow all night long and the banging of doors throughout the night, please feel free to stay here

Room was not serviced because "You did not ask." When it was serviced the following day, housekeeping apparently took the TV controller. Went to desk to complain and was told someone would bring a new one to the room. After waiting for about 15 minutes, we went back to the desk and were told, "Oh, here it is." Service left us 2 facecloths, 1 hand towel, and 5 bath towels for 2 people. The paper cups were not replenished.

Desk chair was badly stained; something had been removed from the wall (presumably a picture) and the holes had not been patched.

The eggs served at breakfast were terrible, although the sausages and potatoes were fine. One morning the only muffins available were covered with nuts, so inedible for those with nut allergies.

For rooms that cost about $300 a night, this is not acceptable. There are numerous hotels in this part of Westchester County - I will not stay at this hotel again.

Visited this location, while taking the children to LEGO Discovery center, and did some shopping. We checked in around 4pm , “Jeff” was the employee was very friendly, acknowledged us as “Diamond Members “ he gave the kids 2 packs of nuts with chocolate. They had hot coffee and tea close to the elevator, which was nice , but no fresh baked cookies that the kids love . Our room was clean, and spacious . Plenty of parking especially for Diamond elite. Breakfast was a bit off , items weren’t fully stocked , breakfast pastry’s were still a bit cold/frozen , the fresh fruit was empty, bananas were still green. Employees were no where to be seen , seems like they were all hiding out behind the door in the kitchen . But over all not a big deal , quick snack to go was ok , but for other guest might be a problem. Overall the property was clean and safe ,we will return next time .

I just started staying in Hilton hotels last year, and this is the first time I've stayed at a Hampton Inn (all the others have been either Embassy Suites or Home2 Suites). I had nothing but raves for the Home2 Suites and Embassy Suites, but was disappointed in the Hampton Inn. I paid extra to get a studio room with a microwave and refrigerator, and the refrigerator didn't work (as I found out the next morning when I went to retrieve some beverages I had put there).

I was hoping for a top floor room, but none were available, and unfortunately, there was a party going on in the room above me that lasted until well past 1 a.m., and there was a lot of loud noise, so I couldn't get to sleep. I suppose that isn't exactly the hotel's fault, but a better-constructed hotel might be able to buffer these kind of room noises. The toiletries were average, the furnishings were nothing to write home about, and overall, I felt it wasn't worth the $180+ (with fees and taxes) I ended up paying.

Perhaps this is the best hotel in the area, but if so, that's pretty sad.
