We had the privilege of spending 2 nights at this slice of paradise recently. It is so peaceful and relaxing. The park like grounds are awesome and so restful. To be able to sit outside and enjoy this, is so awesome. Jo, is a wonderful hostess and is so easy to talk too and is always willing to help in anyway. The continental breakfast was filling and kept you full for along time. I would recommend Flaxhaven Lodge to anyone who wanted a relaxing time or see the beautiful sites of this area.
Sometimes it pains me to give 5-star reviews because I don't want the secret to get out. However, the proprietors of Flaxhaven absolutely deserve a strong review - they run a first-class operation in every respect. My wife and I stayed here while visiting the Coromandel last March, and this remains one of the most memorable stays we've had in NZ. I absolutely would return here (happily) and would recommend it highly.
My wife booked us into the Flaxhaven Lodge for a business/pleasure trip we took to the Coromandel Peninsula in April of 2015. The drive from Auckland was spectacular especially along the coast. Flaxhaven Lodge is situated in a beautifully kept alcove a short walk from the beach. The cottage was very quite and well appointed with a comfortable bedroom, large bathroom and cozy sitting area with a sink and refrigerator. The meals prepared by John and Lee were wonderful and they were a great help with tips and local information. We especially enjoyed our visit to Hot Water Beach and crossing the river by ferry to town. We also took the Sea Leopard coastal tour which was wonderful and also visited the hot spring pools in town (nice). This is a spectacular part of New Zealand and we wished we had booked more time at Flax Haven Lodge. Bruce and Kimberly Decker Castle Rock, CO…
We have stayed here several times and are never disappointed. A lovely location, just a few minutes walk from several beaches. The cottage is lovely to stay in with privacy and comfort. The guest wing in the house is also luxurious, comfortable and private. John and Lee serve up a delightful breakfast and good hospitality. They have perfected that balance of making you feel welcome and pampered, but also giving you space to relax and enjoy your holiday. The only difficulty is having to leave!
What a great place to stay. We loved our cottage and felt very much at home. We had privacy with our own entrance and shaded patio. The cottage was spotless and catered for our every need. Having our own sitting room gave us a welcome place to relax after our days out exploring the beautiful Coramandel Peninsular. Our cottage had been serviced by the owners on our return and it looked immaculate. Lee and John made us very welcome on our arrival and offered us refreshments, which was lovely. Their hospitality during the delicious breakfast was outstanding and couldn't be faulted. We looked forward to chatting with them both during this time and found their local knowledge to be invaluable.Thank you so much to both of you.
We stayed here for two nights in early April. It is a great location for exploring the area and the accommodation couldn't be nicer. Your hosts, John and Lee, are fantastic. We stayed in the "guest wing" which is attached to the main house but really a suite with a large bedroom with King bed, small living room, 2 decks with outdoor seating on one and a spacious bathroom with open walk in shower, all very tastefully decorated and very clean. The views are of gardens and lawn and a neighbouring field with cows! It is extremely relaxing, very quiet and very dark at night. Don't miss walking to Shakespeare cliffs and then down to secret bay - an incredibly beautiful place where you are likely to be completely alone. We also walked to a restaurant 5 minutes away (very good) and the foot ferry to Whitianga and more restaurant choices is an easy 10 - 15 minute walk (bring a flashlight it is very dark). We also drove to hot water beach and Cathedral Cove - both not to be missed. Cathedral Cove is stunningly beautiful and an easy hike.…
Welcoming, generous hosts who are very knowledgeable about the area & cook great breakfasts! Its a great location from which to explore the Mercury Bay area. We arrived as guests but felt like friends when we left.
Lee and John are the best hosts you could hope for, always helpful, never in your way. Their property was built as a B&B and works very well. We like the Garden room best, more space the the others. Very well located for visiting Cooks Beach, Whitianga, and the wonderful beaches of the Coromandel Peninsula. Creative breakfasts
We started our tour around the north island at the Flaxhaven and everyplace we went after paled in comparison. So quite and relaxed, I have thought about this place every day since we left. I loved all the fruit trees and flowers. The landscaping and the garden was immaculate. The lodge is in a perfect place, just a short walk to the beach, hiking and great food. Loved it and WILL be back. Oh, and John and Lee were absolutely wonderful and unbelievably helpful and welcoming. We wanted to take them with us when we left!
Lee and John, please take a bow.....wonderful hostess/host. We were made so welcome, lots of information to the local attractions....recommended local restaurants. Even made reservations for us when required. This place was recommended to us by our son and wife on their honeymoon, all the way from the UK. Breakfast is different from day to day...freshly cut fruit salad, muffin, cereals, yoghurt, bacon eggs ,juice, coffee and tea....what more can one eat? John even loaned us 2 spades and towels for our tryst at Hot Water Beach....lived up to it's name...really hot water from the ground. To crown it all, Lee went to the garden and picked 2 apples to send us on our way...thank you, Lee If we come back to this region of NZ, we will definately return to Flaxhaven Lodge.
