My new favourite place to stay. A stones throw to the beach, quiet and spacious and great for the family. A heated pool and tennis courts on site made it great if we didn't feel like going anywhere. Like it's own little community. Highly recommend and we will definitely be back again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this motel. Very comfortable and provided a great sleep. Our host was friendly and helpful. The weather was stormy but we felt warm and safe. We would love to return and enjoy the fantastic beach that is right across the road.
Great location, right next to the beach and very close to the main Whitianga stip. Kitchen was well stocked with everything you need. Beds were comfortable, everything was clean. TV was receiving an analogue signal, very poor quality. Internet was down our entire stay which makes life with kids pretty hard, especially since the TV was rubbish - no compensation offered. No aircon! Was surprised that all you get is one small fan in the corner of the living room. Main bedroom gets really hot in summer making it difficult to sleep. All in all, a great little motel, but with its rough edges, price didn't seem fair.
Best feature was the stunning views out to sea! Motel was very clean and had all we required. We had a few technical problems, the wall heater died and was promptly replaced with a portable one. The hot water turned cold while I was in shower due to a part failing. When reported the owners had a plumber fix it within an hour or two and also offered to move our rooms, which we declined as the problems were solved. The queen bed is in need of replacement in our unit but I believe Les and Jill are upgrading. Friendly , helpful advice on restaurants etc. Generally a good stay, thank you.
Great location and views from the unit. Clean and well equipped. Buffalo Beach is a safe swimming beach. Swimming towels and spade for our visit to Hot Water Beach were provided. Friendly helpful hosts.
Les and Jill were so helpful and attentive. The room was wonderful, clean and well appointed and equipped. It had a huge hot tub with an ocean view. Our view was spectacular. We across the street from the beach and the sandy beach was great for swimming! Les and Jill recommended Sea Cave Adventures with Ash and Shona and we were so thankful for that. Our tour with them exceeded expectations. I would highly recommend Oceanside on Buffalo Beach.
Lovely room on upper floor with good sized balcony overlooking the ocean, which was literally just across the road. Nice beach and towels provided. Parking behind hotel. Good breakfast choices, brought to room the night before but for us that is good not bad: You can eat it when you want, wrapped in a towel on the balcony with no time restrictions or worry that the buffet might already be empty. It was hot outside but no A/C wasn‘t a problem. Balcony has roof on top so no direct late afternoon/evening sun and ocean breeze is very cooling so despite heat outside, room was cool. Very friendly owners with good tips - definitely take the ferry and walk up to the Shakespeare Cliffs. Also guests get 10% discount at O‘Malleys, which was a short walk into town and did good food and beer (try the lamb rump). Definitely recommended. We would stay again …
We stayed 2 nights and it was great during the day but sound proofing is not great between suites! Outside was wonderful to walk each day and go to the beach outside the front door. The staff was lovely, did a wash, hung them to dry. There were many options for restaurants plentiful but the service was not always good. In fact it was very bad in most places.
Hot with no air conditioning or overhead fan. No door for toilet or security screening on windows or door on ground floor unit. Had to keep everything locked up at night to feel safe so no ventilation.
Good points are that they provided shovels and beach towels for going to Hot Water Beach, room was big. Not too far from town if you have a car. However, though it is refurbished, and those parts (such as bedroom) are clean, you can tell that parts of the property are still old and dirty, like under the sink next to where spare towels are kept. The toilet bowl is old and chipped at the side, the flush button is so dirty and yellow that you don’t feel like touching it. The breakfast, valued at $12, is not worth it at all. It’s a cold meal given to you the afternoon before and consists of cereal, plain bread (with spreads provided), fruit juice of your choice, yoghurt, and “fruit”, which is basically canned peaches.
