We staying here for 2 nights on our short holiday trip and I will give an honest review of our experience Location: very handy and a short drive to the city, beaches and restaurants Room: very clean and tidy with large bathroom, however we experienced having rat above our bed scratching and making noise all of our first night which make us stay awake most of the night and the hall way have kids running around at 7 in the morning which added to our tiredness. The room have AC that’s works really well and keep us comfortable. We told the reception team about our experience of rat and they are very apologetic and action it on the next morning by going up the ceiling and try their best to eliminate the rats but unfortunately they still there on our second night. It is unfortunate that we experience that but PLEASE DO NOT let our experience stop you from staying here as the room itself isn’t that bad and we talk to other people around us they couldn’t hear the scratch noise as it was just above our room only. If it wasn’t the rats issue I would be more than happy to give this place a 5 stars rating for sure.

We came to stay at Aotearoa Lodge for the whitianga festival and had a great stay here, it was very clean, the beds were comfy and linen was very nice. To top it all off the service was honestly the best I have ever had, the gentleman who hosted us was so nice and seemed very passionate about his job. The room we had was so big and had a massive deck. Such good value for money will stay here again and will be recommending to all friends and family. Would suit family’s well as there is lots of room for the kids to play outside.

Good 3 night stay on the outskirts of Whitianga - not really within walking distance of Whitianga shops but you can walk to Buffalo Beach if you want to. Had all the basic necessities in the room (fridge and tea making), comfortable bed, decent bathroom and shower and then a communal kitchen/lounge. We just borrowed bowls from the kitchen each morning then had our cereal in our room. Nice deck to sit on in the late afternoon though we kept tripping over the step walking back into the room as it’s the same colour as the deck and only a few centimetres higher. Really friendly and welcoming owner who lives on site with his nice family. Thanks! :-)

Had a nights stay here was wonderful. Spotless room, bed was amazingly comfortable, kitchen had an oven, of which we could cook a full roast dinner. The lovely manager and his family on site were a delight. It was a bit of a walk into the town at night, but definately do able. Would love to stay again soon.

Lovely welcome and shown to our room. Room clean and tidy. Large room and bathroom. We did have ants in the room on the surface near to a he mirror. This property is outside of the town and you do need transport unless you have the time and energy for a long walk. There is a communal lounge and communal outside areas. Unfortunately the electric went down on the morning of departure; no fault of the hotel. Breakfast was not as it should have been because of the lack of electricity. Cereal, fruit etc. Did manage to get a coffee though.

Booked an en suite room which was as described. Good sized with tea/coffee facility, fridge etc .En suite good with plenty towels. Room looked out onto well maintained garden.quiet and peaceful. T V service a bit limited (Sky upgrade would be good) Staff welcoming and friendly, continental breakfast included in price and full breakfast available at an extra cost. A wee bit out of town, so taxi/uber or drive to centre . overall a pleasurable stay.

Great place for our three night stay. A polite helpful welcome, and a great room, with king/queen bed, sofa, kitchenette and bathroom. All very good. A 10 minute walk to the beach and then another 15 minutes to the wharf. And of course the dog was very welcome for $10 extra per night. All good.

Very quiet this time of year, basic room, the fridge froze everything in it overnight, the person at reception was ok but not much information given. The place is too far from town. Bed was good, it’s a clean place but if you want to experience the area stay at hahei beach or Whitianga central

We received a friendly welcome and were shown to a large room complete with sofa, table, and chairs. There was a kitchenette behind sliding doors, a good size bathroom with plenty of shelves plus a good sized shower with moveable shower head. There was a decking area with chairs outside the room giving on to lawns and trees. The free wifi is ok but we found that repeated logons were required and had to request new access voucher codes to continue receiving the services. The location does let it down slightly as it is further away than the advertised 5 minute stroll to Buffalo Beach. Racecourse road and the main road to the beach front do not have pavements, only grass verges, so great care should be taken if attempting to walk into the centre especially at night. We settled for having to drive to the restaurants.

This accommodation is run by a lovely young couple, is kept spotlessly clean and has pleasant rooms with very comfortable beds. Some of the rooms only have tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge, but there is a communal kitchen for anyone who wants to make a meal. There are two nice grocery stores a short drive away. For those with breakfast included in their rate, the continental breakfast is quite decent. WiFi is good and each room is given a voucher for 1 GB. The motel is a short drive out of town so may not suit people who want to be within walking distance of restaurants, but for us, because we used Whitianga mostly as a base for exploring the Coromandel, it was perfect.
