I stayed here a couple of nights and enjoyed it immensely. The guest rooms are spacious and comfortable with an ensuite bathroom and a private entrance via a patio. Guests are also welcome to use a shared sitting room. This B&B is scrupulously clean and the owner, Carol, went out of her way to ensure my stay was perfect. As well as a delicious breakfast on each morning, Carol provided me with wonderful dinners, which I appreciated very much. She is a relaxed and competent cook who is keen to cater to individual preferences! Kuaotunu Beach is just across the road from the B&B - a very clean, sandy, expansive beach (safe for swimming) - and along the road (walking distance) is the village, which includes a general store, cafe and restaurant. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and hope to return. I will definitely recommend this B&B to family and friends.

We loved our stay at Taigh Na Mara Bed and Breakfast. it was exactly what we wanted, somewhere quiet, away from the crowds and cozy. Carol was so helpful, making us picnic lunches and we enjoyed a beautiful home cooked meal with her one night. Breakfast (which was all included in the price) was all home made and / or home grown. It was literally across the road from a beautiful beach and a short walk only from the must-visit recommendation - Luke's Kitchen. We would love to come back one day.

Our travel agent recommended Taigh na Mara and we’re glad he did! Perhaps a key reason was our brief to be able to swim in the sea and it’s so easy to do so from this B&B. The lovely sandy beach is just across the road and only three minutes walk from your bedroom door. Even better our hostess Carol goes for an early evening swim most days, as do friends of hers, so there’s company in the water!
Carol was also very helpful with her local knowledge. This was especially important as our visit was at the tail end of the post-cyclone road closures. She also recommended Lukes Kitchen and the Ocean Leopard Boat tour, both of which we booked and very much enjoyed.
Carol did a load of laundry for us and wouldn’t accept more than NZ$5 (we suggested she put her price up given that’s what many a hotel would charge for a single garment!)
And then there’s the breakfast… fruit salad, muesli, and quite delicious homemade bread enhanced (if that’s possible) with scrambled eggs or a range of preserves.
As you will have gathered Carol is a great hostess and you’re assured of a very warm welcome.

Hi Hamish. Thank you so much. I'm so glad it all worked out well for you following the cyclone and we were able to put on some good weather and the beach and the peninsula could be seen in all it's glory! It was a pleasure to have Vivienne come swimming and for you both to enjoy the beach. We certainly are lucky to have such a great beach so close by. And I'm glad you enjoyed the breakfast. Thanks so much for visiting and I hope the rest of your travels go well. Kind regards, Carol

My husband and I, along with our friends, stayed with Carol just before Christmas and had a wonderful visit. Carol was very welcoming and made us feel at home immediately.

The rooms were really well presented and had everything we needed including a powerful shower, hairdryer, comfortable bed, a mini fridge, dressing gowns, torches, and tea \ coffee making facilities, with home made cookies. Carol has a lovely garden and an outdoor seating area.

We arranged in advance for an evening meal, Asian chicken followed by a lovely dessert of mini pavlovas, with most of the vegetables coming from Carol’s garden. Carol had gone to a lot of effort and the meal was really delicious. For breakfast we had homemade muesli and yogurt, eggs and bacon and toast with a huge selection of homemade and tasty jams and marmalades.

There is a lovely sandy beach just a short walk across a bridge and there is a good restaurant, Luke’s Kitchen, just a short distance away.

Carol was very attentive and an excellent host and cook. We would have no hesitation in returning again when we are next in the area. Our friends, Dave and Su, have already recommended Carol’s place to their friends who will be visiting New Zealand shortly.

We had a brief but lovely stay at Taigh Na Mara. Kuaotunu is a lovely quiet village, with a beautiful beach. We decided to stay here to be close to surfing lessons we had organized in Matarangi, but the location would have been great for exploring further away too. Carol was very welcoming and the room was spacious and comfortable for all 3 of us. We appreciated the home comforts (including some delicious cookies) along with a private access to our room. The B&B is across the road from the beach, with a nice garden and green space around it. Finally, we (myself and two teenage sons) all enjoyed the delicious breakfast.

Hard to think it was a little under a year ago we stayed with Carol. It was one of the highlights of our trip. Carol made us ectremely welcome and we had a very nice room from which we could exit in the morning for a swim at the nearby beach. Breakfast was a terrific start to our day. We tayed about three nights and used it as a base to sist the Corumundal peninsula and highlights like 'hot beach' and the gold mine forest where we saw glowworms in caves.
It was just a pity we didn't stay there for the res of the year!

Thank you so much for your review--it's hard to believe how different things were a year ago. I'm so glad you remember your visit so well and that your time in the Coromandel and at Taigh na Mara were a highlight for you. It is a great spot here for visiting all the different places around the Coromandel. We are so fortunate here that we can continue to enjoy all that the country has to offer--just missing our international visitors and friends! Thanks again--it means a lot that you have written this at this time. Best wishes, Carol

We had a lovely large room which opened out onto a patio with chairs and table. The beautiful sandy beach is just a short walk across the road within 5 mins and if you saw ten people on it was busy. Carol also makes a nice breakfasts with homemade bread and different jams. The local café and restaurant Luke's Pizzeria is about 15mins walk and nice pizzas. Whitianga is only a 20min drive away with some nice eateries. We had three relaxing days here and Carol made our stay all the more enjoyable even if the weather could have been kinder but that NZ for you!

We stayed with Carol for four nights and it was gorgeous. Beautiful spot on the Coromandel Peninsular, wild and wonderful beaches and lovely walks. The B&B is warm and comfortable. Carol does a great job - she is warm and welcoming, knowledgeable about the area and extremely perceptive about guests' interests. She is an amazing cook - we dined with her on the first night and it was delicious. Nothing was too much trouble from towels for the hot springs to gear to clean our muddy hiking boots. Really lovely experience.

Had a couple of nights at this deightful B&B tucked away in a small village. Our room was large, clean and welcoming as was Carol, our host. It was like home from home and we wished we could have stayed longer. We were across the road from a lovely sandy beach and a short walk to the shops and restaurant. Carol couldn't do enough for us and provided beach towels, sun chairs and use of her lounge. For us it was a perfect two days and so peaceful. Breakfast was excellent with homemade bread, jams etc and although we didn't have our evening meal there, Carol is happy to cook for you but you need to let her know in advance.

It was a pleasure to have you here and thanks so much for your review. The extras are easy enough to provide and can make your stay just that bit more enjoyable so I'm happy to help with these. For those like yourselves looking for a peaceful, relaxing place to stay it is a great spot--and yes, a lot of people feel that 1 or 2 days just isn't quite long enough--particularly when the weather is good. And as you note, yes dinners or platters can be provided with a little bit of notice. Thanks again, Carol

We (couple from Germany) had a two night stay at Taigh na Mara and left with a feeling that we had made a mistake in not booking for some more days.
The location is perfect for all those who look for a quiet place to relax and enjoy the nature of the Coromandel peninsula. A lovely sandy beach is just a short walk away and some more lonely beaches can be reached within 10 - 20 minutes by car.
The rooms were spacious and had everything we needed including an outdoor seating area. Carol was a very attentive and excellent host and provided a delicious breakfast with muesli, yogurt, eggs, fresh fruits and a selection of homemade and tasty jams and home-baked bread.
We would highly recommend this beautiful place and if there will be a second trip to Coromandel Carol would be the first to request accommodation.
