This is our 8th stay at this resort with our 2 girls and we remain impressed with the quality of the service and the accommodation provided by Adam and his team. We stayed in a 2 bedroom Ocean View Villa this time and noted that all the living room and dining furiniture had been upgraded. Everything was very clean and well presented and we love having a dishwasher in the kitchen area and barbecue on the balcony. That gave us great flexibility to eat in or dine out. The bedrooms are very spacious as are the bathrooms upstairs and down. The heating and open gas fire made everything cosy as we watched the changing moods of the ocean outside our floor to ceiling windows. It is also a fantastic location with the beach across the road and we even did a couple of short walks on the Cape to Cape track that also runs past the front door. Caves road is very close and easily ferried us out and about to enjoy all the great food and wine the region is famous for. Our kids also enjoyed swimming at the beach and taking some surfing lessons nearby (can also highly recommend the Yallingup surf school). Lamonts shop and fabulous restaurant (who also do takeaways) is down stairs in the same complex - a bonus! This is a fantastic place for a holiday that has something for the whole family. There is plenty of nourishment for the body and wellness for your soul - think book by the fire with a glass of wine in your hand. It is not the cheaspest accommodation in the MR region (they offer some great deals on their website), but if you are after a genuinely luxurious holiday stay in a world class location, then this is the place.

Small Luxury Hotels of the World venue which is in the northern part of the Margaret River region. We rented a two bedroom villa but there are houses and apartments and so called beach shacks as well. Villa had two levels and was luxurious and roomy. Kitchen was outstanding for self catering and there was a gas BBQ on the veranda that is better than what we have at home. The washing machine and dryer were top notch but you can dry your stuff on a small clothes line in the car port, though you have to bring your own pegs. The car port fits two vehicles and there is daily maid service where they vacuum and mop and make you beds. Even the toilet paper is quality stuff.

Although the villa was truly 5 star, it does have some idiosyncrasies. Lots of glass to ensure full sunlight available in the lounge/dining/kitchen but only privacy blinds and no shut out curtains, so your modesty can be on show. The others villas facing us were across the pool so quite far away. There are shut out curtains in the bedrooms and there are 4 air conditioners, two in the main living area and one in each bedroom.

The pool is very good but pool or beach towels are BYO. The restaurant is lovely and even has wine tasting. The beach is just across the beach.

We are planning to come back again next year.

Thank you for taking the time to post such a lovely review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your luxury experience. Thank you for your feedback regarding pegs for our outdoor cloths lines. We plan on purchasing pegs and baskets for each laundry. While we do not offer pool towels guests are most welcome to take room towels to our pool area and request additional towels to be delivered to their Villa's. It is so pleasing to read that you are already planning to return to Smiths Beach Resort and The Margaret River Region next year. You are most welcome. Kind Regards, Adam McWhirter

We arrived at 3 pm check in was great very friendly and efficient. Map of area was given for us to use.
We stayed in the beach shacks 2 bedroom.
On entering the shack you walk into a lounge area attached to a kitchen with a table for 4 people.

2 bedrooms we had to queen beds but others can come with bunks to sleep 6.

Bathroom was very tight had shower and washing machine available.

Now in the lounge you have a tv. Please be aware that this tv is just that tv. No Netflix Foxtel nothing. For the price of these units I would of expected at least basic Netflix or Foxtel. We paid $570 for 2 nights

Patio area had a bbq which we didn’t use but definitely a bonus table and chairs.
Parking for 1 car at your door.

Kitchen has oven kettle and dishes so you can self cater.

So theses are clean comfortable but I think a little expensive what u get.

I do have 1 thing I find very annoying if the unit is booked for 3 people why do u only give 2 towels. It is really very easy to check the booking and how many people and supply at least 1 towel per person. We couldn’t get another until the next day as office was closed when we realised

Location is great walk to beach.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review following your recent stay in one of our Beach Shacks. I note that you were disappointed in your in room entertainment experience. As listed in our guest compendium we offer complimentary wifi dvd/blue ray player, sound bar and 32 different TV channels made up of free to air and Foxtel. You just press the guide button and all channels are displayed. inclusive of a range of Foxtel movie channels, Sport channels, News and lifestyle channels. My apologies are extended that you were short towels in your room on arrival. I have discussed your feedback with our Executive Housekeeper. While our Reception hours are 9.00 - 5.30 daily as listed on our check in report map/information sheet and guest compendium We do have an on-site caretaker that is on-call after hours by dialing #9 from your in-room handset. Our Caretaker would have happily provided you with any additional linen and assisted with your TV channel query. I am so pleased that you found your shack clean and comfortable and enjoyed our location and beach. We do hope to welcome you back to Smiths Beach Resort on your next visit to The Margaret River Region. Kind Regards, Adam McWhirter

We stayed at the Smiths Beach Resort in March for 5 nights. Celebrating my big Birthday.

Positives: The location is great and the beach itself is few minutes’ walk.
Close to all the wineries and breweries.
Close to the Lavender Café
15 minutes to Dunsborough
Approximately 35 minutes’ drive to Margaret River Town
Staff at check in were friendly
The breakfast a Lemont was delicious.

Negative: The rooms are only cleaned once a week if you stay more than 7 nights. We stayed for 5 nights and our room wasn’t cleaned during our stay.
Price was too expensive as we paid $1466 for 5 nights , which was $293 per night so we thought that was too much per night, The reception is only have staff between 0930am- 0530pm. So if you are out all day then you have to ring after hours number.
Their website promotes no credit card fees, but when we booked we were charged credit card fees, which they had to refund.
We booked a standard Villa and we had Queen Bed, which I thought it was bit steep when you charging nearly $300 a night, we contacted the hotel manager and he said If you want king bed then you will need to pay $150 additional to upgrade to next category room. At the end we left it, as he came across rude over the phone. Next time we will stay two other resorts nearby which are cheaper.

Lemont Café the service was bad , we walked in and staff didn’t even acknowledge us then we asked is it a table service and the staff said go an order on the counter. Which is fine. I believe they are short staff and bit under the pump.

We had to ask for additional toiletries during out stay which I thought they would have replenished even if you don’t service the rooms daily.

Dear Rav S, We aim to exceed all guest expectations and my apologies are extended that you did not enjoy your overall experience. As I understand you reserved our lead in One Bedroom Beach Shack at the discounted rate of $293 per night. We market our beach shacks as sitting within the resort grounds and are part of the resort, they do not form part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World Collection. Guests booking Beach Shacks have access to all resort facilities. All lead in beach shacks are advertised as offering a queen size bed. As you would expect of a first-class resort, all bedrooms are fully equipped with linen, bedding, towels and toiletries, however rooms are not serviced daily unless requested (additional charge applies). For guests staying 7 nights or more, a mid-stay clean and linen change is included. Additional room servicing can be arranged on request or by pre-booking during the reservation process at an additional cost of $35.00 per bedroom, per service. This is detailed in the room description, in all room marketing, during reservation confirmation and pre-stay confirmation. As listed in your in-room compendium and the card in your shack bathroom you may have dialed 9 at any time to request additional toiletries. Along with majority of hotels and resorts world wide we have chosen to charge the a credit card processing fee of 1.2% to assist in covering some of the merchant fees charged. This is made clear when selecting credit card payment option during the reservation process. Rav S at the time of your guest stay our resort was operating at 90% occupancy. As such when you spoke with our Assistant Manager we were unfortunately unable to accommodate your complimentary room upgrade request. Thank you for your feedback regarding your dining experience at Lamont's Gourmet Deli/Cafe. Your feedback has been passed onto Kate Lamont the owner of Lamont's for her perusal. It is pleasing to read that you enjoyed our location, the friendliness of our reception team and your breakfast in Lamont's Gourmet Deli/Cafe. Kind Regards, Adam McWhirter

My partner and I recently stayed here for 2 nights in a "beach shack" which from my understanding is the cheapest room available. While being the cheapest available, it was still on the more expensive side but honestly it was worth every penny. Nice and clean and very spacious. Comes with its own car space dishwasher, washing machine and latge living area with its own bedroom is a rare find and giving how nice the shack was, I'd be VERY interested to see the inside of the nicer rooms. The reception staff were very friendly and welcoming and I can't imagine that we will be staying anywhere else next time we venture down south!

We stayed for 5 nights on a post New Year break and cant rate this place highly enough, family of 3 and the bunk beds would be perfect for a larger family. The shack spotless and with good kitchen facilities and brilliant for us to have a washer with a young one going through multiple outfits a day! The shower on the outside wall a particular help after walking back from the beach but could do with a little more power to help get rid of the last bits of sand. We used the BBQ everynight and so nice to be able to have family dinners outside with no pressure of being in a restaurant.

Thank you for taking the time to provide such a wonderful review of your recent stay. We are so pleased you enjoyed your beach shack. We booked a 4 night stay through Qantas hotels as they offered free breakfast daily and one free dinner.
The hotel tried to charge us $47.50 for breakfast on day one because we had cereal with berries and eggs and bacon so that was two breakfasts each apparently. We declined to pay especially as we had checked the validity/ conditions of the voucher (free breakfast) with the restaurant. We reported our incident to the hotel manager but he said he couldn’t help He did talk with her. The hotel had issued us the vouchers on arrival, no conditions before ordering. The restaurant manageress was so angry she was shaking she went for us after that recording her conditions of dining. The free dinner (2 course it stated unlike the breakfast one), the steak was cold so we sent it back and we waited an hour before we could eat in a less than half full, bare restaurant. We had a dessert but were required to pay for the vegetables which we did. The chips were reheated and brown the steak with the cold sauce was tasty in the end.
The bedroom had a nice big bed however we had a high blank wall behind the window and a window high up into the next door unit to look at. So they could look down on us so we shut the curtains. On the other side of the unit we could look down onto the other next door occupants bedroom from our kitchen upstairs. The units were not serviced apparently only weekly, during our stay. We asked and were given once fresh towels and tea bags.
The pool isn’t heated and no spa with that weather system in Yellingup, cool and wet they need it, luxury hotel I would have thought. Lovely big bath, needed cleaning which I did and then enjoyed it. The furniture and furnishings are stark and basic. The staircase to the living area was tiled slippery and steep. We enjoyed Foxtel and the couch wasn’t to bad to sit on.
Overall not luxury. WA hotels have a golden window of opportunity due to Covid closed borders to win Bali plus holiday makers to holiday here instead, why don’t you make the most of it you need repeat customers, alas we won’t be one of them.

Dear Linda, It is disappointing that you did not enjoy your overall experience at Smiths Beach Resort. We note that you reserved a discounted Qantas promotion in our lead in One Bedroom Apartment. The promotion you reserved offered you a 50% discount on accommodation tariff, complimentary Vasse Felix wine and artisan Gabriel chocolate on arrival, daily a la carte breakfast inclusive of barista coffee or juice, 2 course dinner in Lamont’s Smiths Beach and a late departure of 12 noon. For $347 per night. We note that you chose not to select the additional option of charged daily housekeeping. As standard in Australia Lamont’s complimentary breakfast is inclusive of one breakfast menu item per person and barista coffee or juice. As Lamont’s servings are large majority of guests do not require more than one menu item per person. Your breakfast was complimentary so additional items ordered above this are invoiced. I understand that this may be confusing if you are used to an buffet breakfast where you may have multiple helpings. All food & beverage at Smiths Beach Resort is owned and operated by Kate Lamont AM and the Lamont family. The “Manageress” that you spoke with regarding your breakfast concerns was Kate Lamont AM. Kates long list of achievements include Chairwoman of Tourism Western Australia, Deputy Chairwoman of Tourism Australia and Kate has been awarded the Order of Australia. Anyone that knows Kate knows that she is unflappable and it would be very unusual for her to shake when talking with a guest. On investigation I understand that the "Hotel Manager" you spoke with was one of our reception team members where you queried the options inclusive in you complimentary breakfast. I have been advised that our team member followed up with Lamont’s and yourself to confirm that one menu item per person daily was complimentary along with barista coffee and juice. Our architecturally award winning resort is designed and styled with a modern elegant them with polished concrete floors. While we understand that this may not be to your taste we do provide a suite of current images on our website to ensure that guests understand the rooms that they are reserving. We note that the polished concrete stairs were not to your liking. Had we known this we may have offered you one of our specially equipped Villa’s. Linda given that you are in the travel sector you would be very aware of the impact that COVID has had on the travel and tourism industry in WA. Smiths Beach Resort and Lamont’s are two separately owned WA family operated businesses. Once you subtract travel agent commission, the cost of free daily a la carte breakfast, two course dinner, cleaning and amenity costs the profit margin on your discounted stay leaves a very low profit margin. As the business owner I take your feedback on-board and am extremely disappointed to read that you expected more than afforded to you. I note that your feedback is in stark contrast to majority of reviews on this site and all other platforms. It would seem that Smiths Beach Resort and the Yallingup region is not to your taste. As you have referenced once travel resumes maybe Bali would be a better option for your next holiday. Adam McWhirter General Manager / Director

Wow! We stayed in a two bedroom beach house which has great views of the beach and the sunsets! It is a modern, spacious house with the living and bedrooms upstairs and all the amenities you need for a beach holiday including a gas fireplace for our winter evenings! We spent three nights and enjoyed daily breakfast in Lamont’s and a two course dinner for one of the nights, also at Lamont’s included. The food was lovely but the meals for dinner were a bit overpriced at $40+ each. There were not many dinner options nearby, so we picked up groceries in Dunsborough and ate at the house on the other nights. Smiths Beach Resort is in a great location for a beach holiday and to drive to all the nearby wineries and restaurants for lunch. A hint is to prebook restaurants for lunch as they get booked out quickly.

We stayed in one of the 2 bedroom beach shacks and while it was reasonably comfortable and quite well presented, we noticed a very unpleasant smell which we couldn’t identify or source, although it may have been caused by one or both of the air-conditioners.
So we turned them off overnight and left the garden door open to allow the place to air. Next morning, turned them back on and immediately there was that awful smell. We reported it and maintenance came round, checked the filter and said they’d have to have them serviced. You would think the cleaners would have noticed the smell!!
Each shack is slightly elevated, with three wide wooden steps up to the entrance. On our shack these steps were warped, uneven and loose, and with no handrail, could be a “fall” hazard for anyone unstable in their feet.
Whilst there, we had dinner at Lamont’s restaurant which we’d heard some good things about, but unfortunately, we found it sadly lacking.
Scallops, properly cooked make a perfect entree however these were nowhere near the mark, swimming in a watery sauce with a sprinkling of red fish roe.
The mains weren’t too bad, the wine list very limited so all in all, not a good experience.
I guess when you’re paying top dollar for your accommodation you have an expectation that you’ll get your money’s worth, and for a resort that purports to be a 5 star establishment this is certainly not the case.
We sat on the couch to watch the news with a drink in hand, and had to pull over a kitchen chair to place our glasses on as there was no occasional table.
There were no tissues, no face washer cloth and while it had a small kitchenette, there wasn’t even any salt, pepper or cooking oil.
And it’s these little things that make a difference.
We moved on to Bushy Lakes Chalets for a further 5 days at almost half the price, (and twice as good) for a far more comfortable, and much better equipped chalet.

Dear David H, Thank you for taking the time to post a review and speaking with our Assistant Hotel Manager. You are correct our lead in Beach Shacks are not 5 star. We are very clear in all advertising to advise that whilst the Beach Shacks sit within the resort grounds and are part of the resort, they do not form part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World collection. Guests booking Beach Shacks have access to all resort facilities. Our lead in Beach Shack is the more affordable lead in option. We display current images, room layout maps and virtual tours. We do this to ensure that our product is clearly marketed and to avoid any guest confusion. During COVID we increased all cleaning measures and had our air-conditioner contractors install eucalypts scented sanitizers to all of our system. Our apologies are extended that this impacted on your in room experience. Our Beach Shacks are fitted with fully equipped kitchens inclusive of salt and pepper. The salt and pepper is located in the crockery cupboard along with tea-pots. In-line with majority of accommodation providers we have chosen not to provide cooking oil. Lamont's Smiths Beach Review also offers an onsite gourmet deli offers a range of additional condiments. We offer additional amenities such as face washers, tissues, additional Appelles shampoo, conditioner and lotion in the draws of all bathrooms. Had you dialled #9 we would have been able to advise where to locate these items or arranged for any additional items you may have required. Majority of our Beach Shack product does have three steps that lead up to the entry deck. I have discussed your feedback with our maintenance team and requested that the entry steps on the Beach Shack you reserved are reviewed. It was disappointing to learn that your dining experience in Lamont's Smiths Beach fell below your expectations. Your comments have been passed onto Kate Lamont for her perusal. David I am pleased that you spoke with our Assistant Hotel Manager on the day of your departure and accepted a complimentary future stay in the five star section at Smiths Beach Resort. We look forward to redeeming ourselves on your next visit to Smiths Beach Resort. Kind Regards, Adam McWhirter

The kitchen was well equiped with everything we needed and the quality of it all wasn’t cheap junk either. I love that it had polished concrete floors too! Very thankful they give 1l bag of milk instead of those little containers you get at most hotels. The bath salts were a nice touch. It really had everything you need for a comfortable stay. There is a BBQ on the balcony which we used a few times.
Unfortunately the pool heater wasn’t working while we were there.
The beach is a few steps away and was always so quiet.
Hotel is a little pricey but very much worth every cent. You get what you pay for and more!
Will stay longer next time I’m in Western Australia!!!
We were all extremely happy we booked this hotel!

Responded 11 May 2021
Dear PeterAndJodie we take pride in offering a high level & quality of accommodation, facilities and personalized service and amenities at Smiths Beach Resort and I am delighted to hear that you had a happy & comfortable stay with us. Thank you for your feedback regarding the pool. We currently have a solar consultant that is working on a holistic approach to installing a large solar system that will produce majority of our power needs and as a by-product allow us to heat both swimming pools year round at the Resort as the pool is currently not heated. We are looking forward welcoming you back for your next visit to Western Australia. Kind regards, Steven Hofmann Resort Manager

Depends which type of accommodation you stay in. I stayed in one of the cabins, and the one I stayed in didn’t have a bath

I had no issues at all with spiders but they are everywhere in Australia, coming originally from Europe as well I know exactly where your fear is coming from, just buy a can of Mortein just in case
