Ancient house and location, beautiful views from the roof bar. Tasty breakfast and polite waitress. The room is clean and quite, the view was ok, could be better. Perfect location for a couple of nights in stone town.
Everything is beautiful... The whole hotel inside is made of dark wood, antique styled doors. The hotel is kind of tucked away in one of the alleys. Our room was unique, with beautiful darkwood wooden bed, covered with a mosquito net and with clean white bedsheets. Very clean room, aircon worked lovely. With the high humidity and being thirsty all the time you receive bottled water everyday, included. Wifi worked well and we were on the third floor. Bathroom room very clean, lovely shower and HOT water, as well as clean towels. Breakfast was good, it's a buffet with lovely fresh fruit, freshly squeezed fruit juice, bread, pancakes, jam, chocolate sauce, coffee and tee. You can order omelette, Sunnyside up or scrambled. There is also different kind of food that they serve everyday like samoosas, danish pastry, sausage and beans. On check out we also paid via card machine, they added 5% extra for card facilities, worked well, you can also pay via eft, that way you do not have to pay the 5%. Staff VERY friendly! Would go there again and again!…
I searched for a place to stay in stone town for 2 adults and 2 kids on October 2nd and booked Al Johari for the dates via airbnb. I specified 4 people ( 2 adults and 2 kids) and paid in full. Upon check in the receptionist told me to pay for an additional room as there were 4 ppl in my party. I told then that I had disclosed all that information while I was searching Airbnb and completed the booking. The lady checked my confirmation email and said it was fine . The Wi-Fi and the TV in our room never worked for the duration of our stay. We called them multiple times to fix it but they said the entering staff was on vacation. We had to come down 3 floors to the reception for Wi-Fi. At the tine of checkout their supervisor Johnson came across as very rude and said I should call air bnb and sort out my reservation details Nd pay him an additional $100 . I said he should cal Airbnb coz I am not the one with the problem . Words escalated and he threatened us by saying “this is Zanzibar, you cannot leave without paying”. He accused us of lying about the TV and Wi-Fi not working. I asked hin to walk up to thw room with Me to check and he said he didn’t have to coz he knows his hotel . My just turned 8 yr old daughter started crying . We asked hin to call the cops and the US embassy. And demanded to speak to Lillian. Exchanged words woth her as well and she said we could go. Johnson never apologised for his behaviour neither did Lillian. I would not stay here again and would not recommend it to anyone . Prior to this incident ,I had intended to say that the place is good and centrally located with has excellent breakfast . Wi-Fi and TV doesn’t work . But other than that nothing you really miss. But thw way Johnson behaved has left a bad taste in the mouth and has left a dent in an otherwise excellent vacation.…
For the first time it was hard to find the hotel, it is not near the main street. The room was just normal, nothing special, without any view. I cannot remember our room number, but I remember the loud noise from the rooftop disco bar nearby. We spent there 3 nights and we cannot sleep well. We fall a sleep on the first night around 3 am, then around 4 am and on sunday around 2 am. On the top of that, some drug consumers were shouting on street and visiting the small stand on the corner - probably a drug dealer. Once I must open the window and shout to them, but it doesn´t helped. The staff was helpful. The terminal for credit cards wasn´t working (Visa), we must pay in cash. One positive thing was the rooftop restaurant and bar. The breakfast was good also.…
the rooms was clean, the airconditioner worked, nice beautiful rooftop restaurent. but the staff, was either very very slow, or too polite. the guy at the reception needed glasses, never seen a so near sightet person. but he did he's job well. the restaurent was way to slow. yes in Africa you need patience when you order food, but more than an hour for 4 beef wraps is too long.…
