Stayed one night for visiting Union College. The hotel looks rundown but was conveniently located, though not in the nicest part of town. The room and bathroom were very clean and
everything worked. Plenty of clean towels and good water pressure in the shower. Fairly basic but comfortable enough.

Because of prior old reviews, I did feel concerned about safety as there didn't seem to be anyone in the front office at night. Otherwise I was given a quiet room by the manager who
seemed attentive to my request.

Stayed at the motel last minute. When checking in, the staff didn't make eye contact. The room was small, there were stains on the carpet and bedding! The room took so long to warm up. There was no iron and when we asked for one, we were told to come back in the morning! This place is so shady! Pay the extra money and go somewhere else!

This is my second time staying at this hotel in the past 10 years and have to say that the hotel itself has gotten significantly better in that time. It appears to be under different management, my room was a little smelly, but definitely clean. Kudos.

That said, the neighborhood is just NOT SAFE. Period. Schenectady, while getting better, is still a fairly "dicey" city. This hotel abuts one of the MOST DANGEROUS neighborhoods. There are definitely still people living in the hotel. There are big windows in every room near the door and there was evidence that two rooms down from mine that window had been smashed in recently (there was police tape covering the hole)

In addition, my friend booked the room and only had one key. The second day we were there, I walked up to the front desk - having never stepped foot in the office before - and asked for a key to room 275. They gave me one without hesitation - with absolutely no validation that I was who I said I was, or that I belonged in that room. That doesn't really inspire confidence. Otherwise, the service was dramatically improved.

So, I'm giving the hotel a 2 for effort. But don't be mislead. This neighborhood looks like post-apocalyptic still. Like, you might run into Snake Plissken trying to escape from it or something. That bad.

We had to go to Schenectady due to a family emergency, so really no extra money for the trip. We took a chance on this motel.Reviews said it was clean, which is what I cared about most. And it was true. The bathroom was spotless! I am a clean freak especially when traveling..I would have checked out in a heartbeat if I was at all unhappy with cleanliness. Owners were on site and friendly. Coffee in AM. no bagels or anything else, but for 47.00 per nite, so what? Some complained about neighborhood, but the Hampton Inn we have stayed in for 165 per nite is two blocks away, as is the famous Proctor Theatre. You need to search to find places to eat, Blue Ribbon (1800 State st.) is a good diner, and there is a swanky Inn in the historic district with an upscale menu...didn't find it in time to eat there. It is your average motel, has cable, but it is clean.

Last minute decision to go up the night before SUNY Albany graduation so we wouldn't have to travel in the morning. This was the only hotel left with a room available.
This place is the definition of a desperation move. It is what it is.

The hotel was a very uneasy and uncomfortable experience. The room itself only had one outlet with 2 plugs just enough for frig and alarm clock which were across the room. Alarm clock was not by the bed.Only other outlet was in the bathroom. The room was not that clean and the shower looked dirty and run down. Curtains wouldn't close all the way.The lobby had the only microwave and you have to go outside to get there, so if you wanted to heat something up by the time you got back to the room your food would be cold if you stayed in the winter. or rained on. The neighborhood was that of fighting, screaming people, parents yelling at their kids inappropriately as they got off the bus near the motel. I'm surprised I didn't hear a gun fire or hear someone got shot. They stated they have internet kind of funny it never worked with the password they gave me. Maybe they just didn't have it. If that motel represents Americas best value then that is shameful and a down right disgrace. I couldn't wait to get out of that place, it was horrible!

My family and I stayed there on 10/26 to 10/27, 2013 overnight due to a family party we attended 2 minutes away. The rooms were great. We were really shocked by how clean and neat the rooms were. The bathrooms was clean and shiny and the beds were soft and comfy. The price made us skeptical @ first but it turned out great. The location was convenient for us. The guy at the front desk was also very helpful. We will def go back the next time we visit our family out there.

On 11/8/18 I booked an airfare and hotel through Expedia.com wherein I paid $210.18 for a hotel room @America’s Best Value Inn in Schenectady N.Y--this reservation was for one person for 3 nights.. On 12/6/18 I paid an additional $50.79 to change my hotel reservation from a king bed to two double beds.

However, as soon as I saw the hotel I realized I had made a mistake. The whole atmosphere was shabby, the neighborhood bordered on alarming, and the staff were surly. The only good thing I can say about this hotel is that the room itself was adequate—it looked clean, it was made up daily, and they left the heat on (maybe because local temps were between 10=19 degrees). That said, the parking lot and stairwells etc. were strewn with debrie, there was black ice in the parking lot, and there was no in-room microwave or continental breakfast despite their online ads to the contrary that these were included. Indeed, I couldn’t even get coffee from their lobby’s coffee machine because it was “broke”. This is probably my worst hotel experience ever and I recognize my own failure to check more carefully before booking it. I was even more regretful because I booked my sister into the same hotel (we were there to visit a relative) and am sure she was very disappointed.
As previously noted, I booked the airfare and hotel via Expedia, but will not be using them again. Besides Expedia booking me on a return flight that took many hours more than necessary (a quick search showed there were earlier connecting flights another airlines that would have saved me hours at the airport), they charged me an additional $50+ to change my hotel reservation from a room with a king bed to two single bed, even though I did so over a month before my arrival. Apparently, the hotel’s online policy, which states that they honor free cancellations, did not apply.

From now on I intend to do the following (1) I will carefully review hotel recommendations from individuals whose opinions are screened; and (2) I will not book a trip to Expedia or similar websites because an nonline google search of these and similar websites make c lear that they may be helpful in comparing costs, but that an individual is better off shopping for hotels and airfares without these companies.

I made a reservation through a booking site. Called to cancel around 9 AM. A man answered and didn't speak English! He did the best he could to suggest I call back after 11 o'clock. Needless to say, I called and also reported them to the booking site. Sad, I can't imagine what it would be like if we actually stayed there.
