This property is a good accommodation option available when visiting the historic town of Schenectady, NY. Good rooms with a view of a scenic river walk, outdoor lounge beside the river, ballroom and convention space, plus clean and smoke free casino.

There were a few oddities that if fixed, could make this property the best available option around the area.

1. Room service is not available…yes, you can order from Dukes but you have to pickup your food at the front desk (or pick it up yourself).
2. Kids cannot walk to the restaurant because they cannot set foot on the casino floor…Never heard of this in any US casino I’ve stayed at. This is not convenient when you are arriving in the evening with a hungry family.
3. You have to show ID each time you enter the casino (even when you are clearly over 50)…You not only just need to show ID, it’s scanned by guard checkpoints. This seems excessive and is more than what airport TSA requires.
4. Fix the bar so that good beer can flow… Hazy IPA was not available apparently for weeks due to a known problem with the keg lines.
5. Add good coffee. The current coffee shop looks great and the pastries tasty, but complement it with a decent cup (and it doesn’t have to be Starbucks).
6. Don’t allow housekeeping to linger and chat outside rooms for no reason. It’s unprofessional and you can hear it from inside your room.
7. Have a service elevator dedicated to housekeeping so elevators can remain for guest only. We entered an elevator and shortly after entering, the back elevator door opened for housekeeping.
8. Cater to tourists too…I totally get making the local gamblers happy, but tourist have $$ that they want to spend. Better to make it easy for them to spend it in your hotel than elsewhere.

It seems Schenectady is making a comeback from years of depression. I think it would make sense for its best hotel to try and be part of that comeback effort and story.

We generally stay there when visiting family nearby for various holidays and we ALWAYS have the same issue.

The showers in all their rooms have a fancy glass wall that ONLY goes half way across the edge of the shower (instead of having shower door(s)). The problem is that the shower floor isn't slanted enough so that the water goes back down to the front and drains out but instead spills out onto the bathroom floor constantly (as well as any water splashing off of you).

The staff obviously knows about this issue as the shower floor matt towel is always rolled up right at the edge of that ledge when we check in/room is cleaned to block the water but that just gets soaked and the water spills out onto the floor. You end up having to waste towels by laying them down to soak up the water that goes all over the bathroom.

Otherwise the hotel is very nice for what and where it is. The rugs are remarkably clean for being in upstate NY since you need to go in through the casino or lobby to get to them (and most of the salt/snow/etc has already come off your shoes).

The campy furniture was cute when it first opened but is getting a bit dated. Having a Starbucks in the lobby now is also a nice bonus over the other nearby options though.

Very dissatisfied because when you stay at an expensive hotel you expect to have a coffee maker in your room. At the least there should be free coffee for guests in the lobby, The only coffee available is at the far end of the Casino. You have to have your ID to get into the casino. This is a very long walk. The hotel does not even offer its guests free coffee, you pay a premium cost at the Casino's restaurant.
The only ice machines are on the first floor. The bartender at the lobby bar couldn't even tell me where the ice machine was. Luckily another employee was walking by, she offered to get me ice.

Regardless of other reviews you see below, I had the worst experience at the Landing Hotel. I've stayed there at least 25 times because of the convenience, and have experienced multiple issues at this hotel. There are no microwaves or coffee stations in the rooms like other hotels, but most of the issues have been with customer service. They just don't care about their guests. My stay at their hotel yesterday was the last straw. My room wasn't clean. There were crumbs all over the nightstand where the last guest was probably eating in bed. How do I know that the sheets were even changed if they couldn't even wipe down the nightstand? I spent all night at the casino spending a lot, a lot of money. I am a premier black card player (top 400 of the casino) and asked if I could have a late check-out. It was foggy and rainy outside and had no sleep. Since it was 7:30am and check out is early at 11am, I asked if I could have a late check-out so I could be safer at driving home. I received a flat NO. It was a reasonable request. There was no apology and no respect from the front desk clerk. I don't need this kind of treatment. Oh, and if you think you are going to be a valued guest at the breakfast buffet (which is horribly greasy and not good at all), forget about it. A worker (Marie) will be rude and openly complains about guests in front of other guests (so unprofessional and low class)! That buffet is closed at 10:30am or just before no matter what! About a month ago, I saw her get in another guest's face because he wanted get something off of the breakfast bar while she was closing it. He stood there with a look of disbelief at how rude she was. I previously stayed at the Meadows and think I am going to switch back. They treat their guests well. They know me by name, they shuttle me back and forth to the casino from the hotel. Their rooms are all large, have microwaves, coffee stations, and a good breakfast buffet. If their hotel is full, they set me up in a nearby hotel free of charge. There is no comparison in the respect given to guests between these hotels. I am sending a LOUD message to the Landing Hotel and Rivers Casino and will look at reaching out to the General Manager. Treat your guests right, or we will take our money and go elsewhere!

The room was nice but that's all you get. No coffee pot, no room service, the restaurant had no availability and we were forced to eat at the cafeteria, which was garbage. No spa. No breakfast. Zero amenities, not at all what I signed up for when I booked this night away with my bridesmaid. I spent over $300 for a room which was supposed to be a relaxing night away. Adding insult to injury, the hotel charged my card for over $300 THREE TIMES for one night, then charged it for over $400 TWICE, which adds up to $2K of unauthorized charges on my credit card, which I now have to deal with. When I called the hotel, their response was that it's not their problem. I asked to speak to a manager, who they assured me was standing right there, then the manager declined to get on the phone. Instead, their response was to call back in the morning and speak to the general manager. ????

Stayed one night. Reasonable price but we’ll see how fast they remove the deposit off of my credit card.

Pros: VERY CLEAN room. Brand new. Room temperature was comfortable. I didn’t care about a view so we overlooked the parking garage. Parking was not a problem. Front desk was easy to find and staff was nice and professional. Lounge area looked nice. Non smoking hotel, which was perfect.

Cons:

1. Mattress was too hard. The open shower concept was weird (although no water got on the floor). I don’t care about no coffee maker in the room but courtesy bottled water would have been nice. Couldn’t check out remotely so I needed to go to the desk to get a receipt.

2. Hotel guests should NOT need to be carded to either enter the casino or go to the food court. Showing your room key should suffice.

If I get comp rooms through the rewards card I may come back. We’ll see.

I drove in Saturday evening to find a crowded parking ramp with an altercation going on. I waited in my car till a cruising hotel security car broke up the screaming match. Dragged my suitcase thru the ramp to the elevator and down to the lobby thru a maze, with the casino handy but the hotel lobby further away.
As others have said, room was clean, comfy, and new. Mine looked across at a wall...ask for a harbor view. You have to walk thru the casino to get to the restaurants. No bottled water in room, no coffee.
Staff didn't have masks. I had no desire to navigate the crowd at the casino so back to my car to try to find a restaurant in the dark in a strange city. Front desk had no suggestions other than casino restaurants.
Events center for conference was OK...smallish breakout rooms but nice outdoor patio and, finally, a water view. Buffet line was long. Conference sit-down dinner was very good, but no coffee was served until all the plates were cleared! Didn't come until after the desert! And, no masks worn by staff.
I wouldn't stay here again, just too much of a hassle unless your primary purpose is to go to the casino. That's clearly the point of the complex.

This is my second time staying at this hotel. Previous time was fine. No complaints . This time our room smelled like cleanser or febreeze or some kind of chemical perfume odor. Called front desk. They did offer to go room to room trying to find one that doesn’t have this odor but sounded really put out about it. Decided not to have them do that. I am really unhappy with their attitude and customer service. Will not be staying here again

Hello… we just left today. The hotel itself was nice, but not luxurious from our perspective. I would stay there again when in Schenectady, but I might consider somewhere in Albany and settle for a longer drive in. I’m not a gambler, so that means nothing to me.

The staff at check-in was very nice. The room was nice, clean and comfortable… decor is a little interesting. The staff in the casino is quite different and when you try to charge to your room for dinner or drinks, it is quite an ordeal. Watched the staff sit and play on their phones behind the bar taking to each other while guests were trying to get their attention. One guest asked for help with a slot machine, but the bartender said “just wait they will come”… then proceeded to say “what the f&*k am I supposed to do”…. Really??

With over 3 million flyer miles, I have never seen a hotel who allows only $50/day to be charged to your room.. ridiculously stupid. They have your credit card on file, so why be different here and no where else in the world - literally?? Maybe it is the clientele they get (a little rough), but I can’t imagine why they would want to make sales to guests difficult.

Overall, it was a fine experience. Would consider again, but may look for something nicer in Albany.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We appreciate the feedback and do apologize if you experienced anything but excellent guest service. Additionally, we only take a $50 incidental hold on your credit card upon check-in, but you may charge any amount you want to your room. We do not restrict you to only charging $50 and apologize if that wasn't explained to you in detail. We do hope you chose to stay with us the next time you're in town and hope to see you soon.

Would you say the harbor view/ river is worth the extra cost? Otherwise what are your views of?
Answer from Ryan C
The rooms with the harbor-view rooms are the more desirable views for sure. The other responses to your question are partially correct. The deluxe and standard view rooms do vie the rear area of the hotel, which is partially the rooftop and partially the parking areas. You can book a harbor-view room even if you are not a rush rewards member. Those rooms are available for sale for all guests. We hope to see you sometime soon!
