We stayed here 2 nights and I had no problems with the room or the pool.
Hotel staff were polite and helpful, the rooms were clean and adequate for the price. It had a microwave, fridge and relatively new A/C unit. It looks like they have been making improvements to the building itself.
Bathroom was very clean and the shower worked well. Took a bit to get the water hot but no big deal. It’s an older motel.
The pool was beautiful and clean. Well maintained.
It you are looking for modern decor, big fluffy towels and bathrobes along with coffee makers and ironing boards with irons provided in room, this motel is not for you.
If you are looking for a place with reasonable rates, clean rooms with your basic towels and washcloths a bar of soap and shampoo packets this is your place!
Close to most attractions in Saratoga Springs.
Would return again.

We decided to spend three nights in Saratoga Springs, New York. Since it was on short notice, we tried many hotels and motels, but couldn't find any vacancies. We found the Top Hill Motel on Route 9 (3290 South Broadway). Unfortunately, there was nothing "tops" about our room. Let me start by saying we did not expect anything fancy or first class. But we did not expect the room to be in the condition it was.
Upon entering the room, we noticed a slight mildew odor. I turned on the lamp on the wall near the bed, and the bulb blew out. The room was furnished with cobwebs on the ceiling, and also in the corner, complete with several dead bugs attached. This was obviously there for some time, and should have been cleaned. Later on, we tried to turn on the television with the remote, but it wouldn't budge. I turned it on manually. My wife went to the office to get a new light bulb, and batteries for the remote. The manager asked what exactly was wrong with the tv. She told him the remote probably needs batteries, and he suggested that several channels are frozen due to a satellite problem.
So now we have new batteries for the remote, but now several channels are frozen. If we could have found another motel, we would have left instantly.
Now, onto the refrigerator. Well, it was cold. That was good. It was also dirty. That was not good. The pillows on the bed were well worn, and upon taking off the pillow case, we noticed the pillows were actually stained. We understand that it is summertime, and there are lots of bugs around. But my wife did not expect to find one under the covers on her side of the bed.
The bathroom towels were among the cheapest quality we have ever used. Extremely thin. The tv on the wall rested upon a home made combination of pieces of wood nailed together, and not even painted to match the paint on the wall. The bathroom was recently renovated (compared to the rest of the room which needs attention immediately), and was large. The motel had a small pool which we did not use.
I cannot comment on other rooms, and do not want to knock the motel, but this is not the way to attract customers. The best thing is that we were out most of the day visiting attractions, and really only used the room to sleep at night. We will never go back there again. We researched other cleaner motels for our next visit, and the lesson we learned is plan well in advance, especially in this town during busy season.

i was in Saratoga a few weeks ago to attend a few concerts at spac, the location of Top Hill Motel if perfect, short walk to the park. The rooms are clean and everything is in working order. The staff was more than accommodating and friendly. Over all, it was a great time. No problems. When i return to Saratoga, i will be staying here again.

Beware! After a one night stay at the Top Hill motel, I feet compelled to warn all potential future customers of the unsanitary and disgusting conditions that I experienced during a recent trip to this establishment.

If you make the decision to stay here, expect the following conditions:

Mould on ceilings and walls; Unvacuumed and stained carpets; bugs crawling on windows; thick dust on furniture; smoke smell in non-smoking rooms; cigarette burns on the sheets and blankets.

And to top it off, the manager's parting words to us were, "You Canadiens always expect too much!"

My husband and I and a good friend stayed at this motel on September 15th. We had two rooms side-by-side. Just to give you some background, we were visiting friends in Saratoga, there was a group of us, and we chose to motel it. I am certain that I found it either through AAA or the web, and I am certain that it was given a 3 star rating. We travel a lot and this is what we usually do.

Now.....this is a filthy motel. It should not be given space on the web site. There were dead bugs, and crawling bugs on the bathroom floor. The pillows (not the pillow cases) were stained. We bring our own pillowcases, but our friend couldn't even use her pillow. The towels were the cheapest quality I have ever seen. They were small, there was only one each, and they really were for wiping yourself off after a shower, but in no way bigger enough to wrap around yourself. We asked if we would loose our deposit if we checked out and the owners wife said yes. We stayed because we were only there one night. This morning I found a bug bite on my neck that resembles what I believe to be a bed bug. I looked up the description, and unfortunately I think this is so. I have since developed another.

If there is any way that this motel could loose it's license, we would definitely contribute our experience.

You can spend $350 a night to stay in the Holiday Inn at Saratoga or $99 here. It is a basic, independent hotel that offers what it should. Beds, bathroom, towels. There is a small pool that could be kept up better. If you are headed to Saratoga for the racing meet and do not want to get robbed by hotels in the area, the Top Hill gives you what you need. The best part of the Top Hill is its location to the racetrack and its affordability during July and August.

My friends and I were attending a concert at the Saratoga performing arts center and we thought it be a good idea to stay the night so we didn't have to make the 2 hour trip back home after the concert. All the hotels near the venue were either booked or too expensive for the night. I came across top hill for its location being only a mile from the venue. The women was of indian descent and seemed nice but very soft spoken and shady. When we got into the room there were bugs everywhere and I am not talking 2 or 3 but rather a lot and they were all over the walls and who knows about the bed bugs on the beds as well. The room looked run down and for a motel of only 14 rooms you would think they would have kept it nice and clean, I mean how hard is it to upkeep 14 rooms for crying out loud. Anyway after killing a lot of bugs and seeing boogers on the walls it made me and my friends terrified to even go to sleep in a place like this. I rather have just slept in my car. also keep in mind they gave us 2 towels for 4 people staying in the room and there was 2 bugs on the towels!!! It was just absolutely disgusting and the women said that we needed to take pictures or have the manager see the bugs but you could tell she didn't care. I don't know they are even allowed to do buisness charging 145 a night. If your looking to crash the night and don't care about sleeping with bed bugs and other flying bugs on the walls then this is the place for you but I highly suggest being severely intoxicated because you won't feel them eating away at your skin all night long. Best western is located across the street Im surprised they haven't put them out of buisness yet but spend the extra money and stay there you won't be disappointed plus you get a breakfast and clean sheets and towels!

Ive stayed at top hill for four or five years, and never had a problem there, the price is right, if you want to spend 3-400 a night then go up town and leave your remarks to yourself, its a humble spot, the owners are very nice, the husband works a full time job, so maybe he might want to spend time with his family on the weekends. and his lovely wife runs the motel, so when they get to fixing that's when the will do it, I have no problem after you go the first year or two, you know what to bring with you. we bring our rolling cooler and stuff for the track, I bring snacks or what ever and they have a microwave and ref. what more do you want, When we get back we go next door to the wonderfull PJ chicken and it is good, So you people with the wise remarks and pictures take a hike somewhere else, I'll stay there OH another thing, ive gotton free comps to atlanctic city and ive had mole on the bathroom walls and found a few ants so not everywhere is perfect
