Small cottage right on Lake Flower looked great in the pictures. Customer service was nonexistant. Broken promises about many things too numerous to list. Run-down, dank, dated & dirty cabin with no parking. No working wireless, teeny-weeny tv and bed. Buyer beware! Very disappointed.

So I need to start this off with 2 things, one: we've stayed here two other times and never had any problems, and two: I spent a majority of my childhood at my own grandmother's lake front cottages, so I'm NOT expecting the Ritz Carlton...however, I'm expecting the owner to take pride in her cottages!
Upon arrival, there was no one to be seen, driveway plowed, but none of the sidewalks shoveled. Being here before, the cottages are usually occupied, this time they weren't. This made me feel uneasy from the get go... we called 3 different phone numbers only to get "mail boxes full" or no answer at all. I found a business card on the porch of the main house, and naturally Denise answered her real estate cell phone....but none of the other phones (the website included). She then was 'clearly annoyed'... we found our cottage, the lights and heat were on, this is when it became apparent how run down the cottages are...
Now mind you you are paying a $150 cleaning fee for your stay. Keep that in mind as you're reading this;
There are absolutely no fire extinguishers or smoke alarms, only half the light bulbs in the entire cottage work... There are 6 of us as adults that came to this cottage for the Winter carnival. My husband and I bragged this place up to our friends due to having amazing experiences back in 2012 and 2013... 4 out of the 6 of us are all business owners who are experienced in real estate.
The oven did not work, but the stove top did, the toilet is going to fall through the floor, you can see the rotting boards, under the kitchen sink is rotting wood, the spiral staircase needs to be tightened up, there were towels and what appeared to be clean sheets, although one of our beds didn't even have the sheets on it, we found them in the corner of the room on the floor...
Liking natural daylight, I opened up the drapes to find the screen from the door off the tracks and leaning... The fan in the bedroom was absolutely filthy and there were pine needles on the floor....
When my husband tried to adjust the heat and the cottage the flame to the fireplace went out completely. Thankfully due to his experience with our own properties, he and our friend were able to figure out the fireplace which was poorly wired and got it running again.
We called Denise to talk to her about the fact the heat had shut off, and it was getting cold quickly, being is only 13゚ outside. She basically told my husband that they can "mess with any of the dials under the fireplace" and left it at that, didn't offer to come out and help, didn't try to explain anything over the phone, just hold him to "mess with the dials".....
We were staying at the tamarack by the Lake, you cannot take your car down the air so if you're disabled or have an elderly person with you it could be challenging. The path was not lighted at all, and nothing on our deck had been shoveled..
We understand we're here for the Winter experience, but there is a strict policy about taking your shoes off in the cottage. They should be worrying about the outside as much as they worry about the inside which clearly had not been vacuumed..

We are incredibly disappointed and will never stay here again. It's sad, we've been here to other times and absolutely loved it. But the care and compassion for not only their property but the people that stay here is incredibly clear... As a business owner I would be ashamed!! For what we paid to stay here for the 3 days 2 nights, on top of the "cleaning fee", I personally would never encourage anyone to set foot on this property it's a waste of money.
The only reason I gave it 2 stars was the fact that the cottage is adorable and is the perfect location to see that ice castle and fireworks.

My now fiancé rented Cedar cottage for a surprise weekend getaway for our anniversary. The cabin itself was nice. It was clean and very pretty. That's really all the place has going for it. My fiancé was told that check in was at 2:00, we got to the office around 2:15 and no one was there! No one was answering the phone, we tried the owner's cell phone, she didn't answer! 45 minutes later she finally calls us back and apologizes because she forgot about us! We were told to head down the the cabin and she would have the landlord meet us there with the keys. We didn't get the keys for 3 MORE HOURS! My fiancé had planned on walking around Lake Placid before our dinner reservations but we couldn't do that because we had to sit around and wait for the keys! It was one thing to make a mistake, but once she realized it she should have made us a priority. It was just a horrible experience all around.

We rented Saddleback cabin from Dec 30, 2020-Jan 3, 2021. There are many, many problems with Adirondack Vacations (also known as Harbor Hill Cottages). I wish I had read real reviews (NOT the "testimonials" on the website). I never would have booked this place.

First, the website misrepresented the number of bedrooms and type of dwelling. Do not believe the website. The photos and information misrepresent the property. Shockingly, it did not have the number of bedrooms posted on website!

Second, the website leads the viewer to believe that Saddleback is a single unit cabin. This is not so. In fact, there is an apartment in the house with additional tenants downstairs. Given COVID, we specifically selected the Saddleback cabin because we did not feel comfortable sharing lodging with others. Not only this, but noise carries in the house, so imagine music late into the night and the barking dog...

The hot tub is shared with the other tenants in this cabin, which was never indicated in any way on the website. Obviously we were not going to share a hot tub with anyone outside of our group given COVID, so this amenity was unavailable to us. The hot tub wouldn't have been usable anyway as it was not clean and the temperature setting was locked at a low setting.

There were so many problems! The driveway was not cleared of snow and was treacherous. There are extension cords throughout the house; it surely is not up to fire code. (I would never stay here with young children.) The massive stone fireplace featured in the photos does not function! You might note the stack of wood and irons by the fireplace in the website photos and assumed this meant it is a functioning fireplace. No, it does not function. Instead there is a strange insert that is dangerous to ignite and does not emit any heat.

I hope that this review is helpful to others. We were so disappointed in the Saddleback Cabin of Adirondack Vacations. The manager is Denise Bujold. To be clear, we are talking about the rental at One Harbor Hill Lane, Saranac Lake, NY 12983.

There are so many beautiful trails in the region and it's a shame that this place is such a scam.

This place is horrible. Stay away from it. Moldy, smelly, old, not clean, noisy, yes noisy from the road across the water. Booked a stay, had to leave do to smell and mold, no refund. Lost about $700, live and learn. I will respond to any requests. I don't like to have to write a report like this, but its necessary.

This review is the worst and longest I have ever written on TripAdvisor. I fear I will appear like "one of those people" writing reviews for issues that should have been addressed during stay. But the nature of Harbor Hills reservation policy makes you stuck with your mistake.

We stayed in the Algonquin Cabin. First (and last) time I book anything without looking at TripAdvisor. The location, Saranac Lake and Lake Placid is beautiful, and has a lot to offer. I grabbed the place because I believed it would be as nice as other places we have stayed in the Adirondacks over the years, judging by description and cost.

The cabin faces a busy road, right across the lake (Lake Flower). We live in Brooklyn, we are used to noise. But did not expect it in a log cabin in the Adirondacks.

The cabin smelled moldy. I realized after a day that the shower curtain had distinct mold smell. There was evidence of mold in the seams of the shower stall. We left the bathroom window open, even when the temperature dropped below freezing.
We did not inform the owner of this situation. I am quite certain she is aware of it.

She demands 50% non-refundable down payment, by money order or check, remainder by money order, check, or cash.

She required a credit card number for the reservation. We found out after she "accepted" our reservation via email, that she only allows payment by credit card with an additional 3% fee.

I cannot help but think this disincentive for credit card payment is purposeful. After we arrived, we did not find the owner for almost 24 hours. If we had used a credit card, we would have left the property to find other accommodations, and disputed the charge.

We had made a 50% non-refundable deposit by check, which had already been cashed. We had no choice but to pay the remainder, or leave and lose $650.00. The payment policy seems to insure that guests have no recourse.

Bath soap is not provided. The owner gave us 2 sample sized bars after we asked, but made a point of telling us it is not provided. Paper products are provided as a "courtesy" until you go shopping and buy your own. The owner reluctantly gave us a started roll of paper towels for the kitchen after we asked. She suggested we use the hand soap in the shower, moving it back and forth as needed.

The television was about the size of a laptop screen.

The bed and pillows were like rocks. My husband asked for a better pillow. The owner told us to take a pillow out of one of the bed shams. She also suggested we enter one of the empty cabins (?!?!?) and take a pillow from there. She never answered her phone or returned calls.

The fireplace was dirty. The mat on the bathroom floor was filthy. The inside of the oven was filthy. All the surfaces in the kitchen, knobs, window blind, etc. were greasy.

There is a hot tub on a deck attached to the side of the cabin. it appeared to have not been used in a decade.

The only bright spot was a staff member (the only one we saw) Bill, who was very friendly, courteous and helped us with firewood.

I have discarded clothing and toiletries that I could not get the mold smell out of after returning home.. I have NEVER experienced that before. We have stayed in log cabin rentals for 16 years in the Adirondacks, have gone camping and stayed in tents and lean-tos. This odor is the worst I have encountered.

At $259.00 per night, paper products and bath soap are not a "courtesy"

This is by no means a $259.00 per night accommodation.

We stayed here last year. I'm pretty sure at the time there was only one review on Trip Advisor and it was a great review. I don't know what they saw that we missed!! It looked on line as if this place was exactly what we had been searching for. Peace and quiet in a cottage on the lake! Far from the truth... across the lake you could hear and see all the traffic. The website makes you think you will have an amazing time. We stayed at Baker Cottage for four nights! I am actually embarrassed to have been so fooled and to have actually stayed there. We should have left immediately. The cottage (referred to as honeymoon cottage!!!) was just old, musty, and didn't feel clean enough to get comfortable there. The bathroom was so small and stuffy. The shower curtain was stained with mold. It was a gross stall shower. We ate out for every meal because I just couldn't deal with the kitchen appliances and utensils. The parking area for this cottage is down a very steep, unpaved driveway. Of course we managed to roll into a tree and dent our car trying to maneuver it to get out. We did go to the office twice but there was never anyone around. We left a check for the balance due and headed home. I was just glad it was over! Enough money thrown out the window. I would like to forget that we ever stayed there.

Very misleading ad online. For $275 a night I would never recommend this location to anyone! Hot tub? Yes... 78 degrees!!! We thought we had our own cottege but we were in the basement suite of the owners residence. Smelled of animals (cats or dogs). Daughter had to hang outside due to allergies w animals. Very dark needs a ton more of outside lighting. Owner sent young daughter down to show us another place to stay on the property. We unloaded then reloaded all of our luggage and coolers. Was told by owner she would refund ALL of our money $600, 25 mins later I was given back $525 and was told by Denise the owner that she keeps $75 for cancelations!! Hope she enjoyed the dinner we supplied for her and her family! We traveled 5.5 hrs to get here and ended up at the Best Western in saranac lake! Amen!
I would never recommend harbor hill to anyone!

My now-husband and I stayed here a while ago, and I wrote a review on Tripadvisor, which has now disappeared, and I'm not sure why?? In any case, this place is TERRIBLE - we stayed in one of the "cabins" down by the water -- the cabins are about 10 ft away from each other, moldy, and run down. Not to mention LOUD -- there is a highway across the pond from the cabins, and it is LOUD all day/night long. The hot tub was moldy, and we had to throw our bathing suits away because we could not get the smell of mold out of them. The fireplace didn't work, and when we tried to leave early, we were told we would forfeit our last two days stay. We had a lawyer friend write a letter; we received our refund. STAY AWAY from this place -- from the two most recent reviews, it looks like it hasn't changed at all. I wonder how they maintain their business license?? I would also like to know where my review went!!

I could go through the list of things that were completely unacceptable on this property but the thing that is shocking is the misrepresentation of the cabins. First, this property is inaccessible for individuals with physical limitations. The road to the cabins is narrow & very steep. You need not only 4 wheel drive but F-1 driving skills.

As soon as we entered we drove down next to the cabin. We were informed immediately by maintenance that the hot tub was not working. Within 10 minutes we found that the toilet, yes the toilet, was not working. Maintenance looked at it, tried to fix it & left. It stayed like this until the next morning when we cut short our stay by several days.

Tried to find a site manager, none in sight.

We have stayed in wonderful hotels/inns/lodges all over the world. The utter lack of care for this facility is stunning. Not just the cabin we were in but the grounds. The ‘sandy beach’ is several wheelbarrows of sand, the boats are a joke, the road across from from the lake is visible & very busy. The shower & bathroom were dark & an exposed hot water tank is so close to the shower you can reach out & touch it. A non-functional hot tub from another cabin was plopped on the grounds near our cabin.

I blame myself for booking this without reading the reviews first.
