The Palms Hotel Fire Island has garnered acclaim for its outstanding amenities, such as private beaches and leisure equipment, and its prime location that guests find convenient. While the hotel's service is frequently lauded for its attentive staff, some travelers feel the rooms do not offer good value, pointing to high costs and space limitations. We (Two couples with two kids each) were excited to stay at the Palms Hotel based on rating and location. It’s literally THE heart of Ocean Beach. No traffic other than people and just beaches, restaurants, bars and shopping. Sign me up. After the COVID baloney we were ready to get away and away we went. With the chaos of the summer season in full swing, we did encounter a problem with our room. After contacting Jeanne at the front desk, she assured us that the issue would be resolved expeditiously. We also didn’t need to wait around. They would send someone. That’s great. I’m not here to schedule appointments to repair issues, so that was refreshing to hear that it wasn’t my problem. As we were preparing to leave, there was knock on the door, no more than 5 minutes later. It was a woman named Laura who apologized for the inconvenience and to let us know that they were on it. Really? Can I hire both of these two people??? That kind of attention to guest satisfaction is rare if not non existent. Anyway, we left, enjoyed dinner at Maquires (great place) and when we returned everything was made perfect, just as promised. That’s the way to allow us to do what we came for, relax and enjoy our vacation. Some other people that were amazing in constantly exceeding expectations were Diego and Des by helping with luggage, towels and everything you need to have a great beach day. Jill and Randi were also extremely helpful at the front desk with other questions and concerns. Also Jade from housekeeping was really helpful keeping our towels plentiful and couch turndowns and restorations easy. Overall great people made this trip easy and let us have all the fun we could create. Thank you to all mentioned. You were great.

We just returned from four nights at the palm and it was as great.they provide chairs towels umbrellas and a wagon to get it all to the beach. The young man working there was more than accommodating to bring use our beach things. He even gave us a quick tour of one of the 4 bedroom cottage which are beautiful. The housekeeping staff was very accommodating bring anything you needed including chocolates on your bed. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the Pantry for one thing, by the way is great for coffees and a BEC and a brief view of the bay. Would definitely return!

While traveling to deal with some business I had the pleasure to stay at the Palms. In these crazy times it was refreshing to see how well kept the place was. There was a particular worker Donald I believe his name was, was always ready to give assistance always courteous and always helping out with chairs ensuring things were sanitized. I'd recommend the palms to friend and family and I'll definitely be there next year.

We were very excited for our Monday through Thursday stay. We booked a cottage which looks MUCH larger online than in person. It was very tight for the # of people, esp the living areas. Also the private patio is nothing but a strip of brick in the back with a small wrought iron table. The outdoor shower does not fit a petite female at all. And while I get we have COVID going on the housekeeping was lacking. The kitchen was not stocked at all The Chelsea cottage has three bedrooms that face out to the courtyard which can be noisey at night and in the AM

On the pros side Donald was super super helpful the continental breakfast was very convenient. Renting chairs, bikes, towels was very easy and the wagon at the ferry was very helpful.

Improved cleanliness would have vastly improved our expereince.

I’d give it a big zero on rating.
This is what you get at The Palms Hotel in Ocean Beach for $1700 a night. I contacted management numerous times and had housekeeping in my room on Saturday for 3 hours straight scrubbing the floors. There was so much wrong with this establishment. Despite the deplorable conditions they refunded me a mear $500 of my $4000 dollars. This is how they clean or don’t clean during a pandemic.

We have been guest during the second half of July 2019.
I am writing only now my story because I vainly waited for Palms Hotel to address my request to be refunded the extra-charge for my stay.
Failing that I have decided to warn any future guest by sharing my story.
We book our stay directly on the phone. The initial experience was very nice and we have been treated in a friendly and professional manner.
At arrival we started to be exposed to reality. The hotel need badly refurbishment, the staff was in prevalence made by student on summer job, really nice but utterly unprofessional. Our first room was tiny with no space to move around and equipped with a very noisy air conditioning. Between our window and the next building there was less than 1 meter distance, was dark and unpleasent. Totally unacceptable considering the cost of it ($495 a night)!
We asked for an alternative accommodation that they were happy to arrange.
BUT it took about 6 hours to the hotel staff to find a solution. The initial room on offer had no working air con! After several delays and a very confusing dealing with our request they proposed for us to move into the so called BATTERY Pk suite. On paper this was substantially more expensive compare to our initially booked accommodation BUT they verbally proposed to increase our rate by 70$ A day. Still quite a sum but worth considering the improvement from our so called Mini Suite.
At check out there was again a lot of confusion in the reconciliation of the bill. The general manager was brought in and wanted to charge us for the full price of the Battery Pk Suite. She was extremely rude but we firmly refused to accept explaining that the room was offered and accepted by us for an extra 70$ a day and not at full price.
In the end we left paying what we though was correct..... Until, one day later, our credit card was charged again for more than 500 $!!!! What a scam!!!
The hotel exploited the fact that we are European with little possibility to recover our money.
The Hotel has been not responsive to our request to be repaid for the overcharge.
Now we just hope you will not repeat our mistake and avoid an overpriced, poorly run, unprofessional Hotel like this.

COVID has been tough and we can all agree! So my family and I decided to revisit fire island and the hotel we stayed out last year to get catch a break through these tough times (see my post from last year). Last year the palms hotel was amazing which is why we decided to come back. We actually agreed we wouldn’t try a new place because this hotel was so good. Well, not all good things last I guess, or the impression. This stay was absolutely horror. The room was way smaller I felt like I was staying in a closet. The toilet was not even cleaned, I did tell them about it and they said they would clean it while we were out and that didn’t happen. The blinds in the room were broken. It just looked like a room of disaster. On top of this we our room was by the storage room or one of their employees room, and we could not sleep all morning due to constant banging of the door and music from the employees. I did complain about the noise and disturbance but it did not stop. The only good thing I can mention about this hotel is Isabella! She was so helpful and tried her best to communicate information. This will be our last stay unfortunately.

Hands down the best service out there. Chuck at the Bay building was helpful and accommodating to everyone’s requests. I was really happy to see how well he interacted with everyone especially the kids using the kayak and paddle boards. He had to dive in and rescue some kids who went too far out. He loves his job and it shows.

Isabella at the front desk, the staff helping to store our bags, hand out carts, chairs and towels, again absolute perfect customer service.

Down side the beds are very hard and uncomfortable. We had our own bathroom but we did use the shared bathrooms while waiting for our room on the first day, they were clean and smelled fresh.

My girlfriends and I went for my bday staycation. We had a blast. This is the most accommodating boutique hotel I’ve ever stayed at. Everything was perfect. They serve a wonderful continental breakfast, offer fabulous beach amenities, clean towels always available at a moment’s notice, and beautiful delicious cookies brought to our room at night. I highly recommend your next stay at the beautiful Palms Hotel, Ocean Beach.

I am a smoker and of course, I feel like a lepper. The courtyard is close and has a garbage pail. I was able to smoke, put it out and throw the butt in the trash. No one gave me a hard time, except my non smoker friends.
