I stayed at Tara plage for four days. I loved the place for it's uniqueness and location, which is away from the hustle bustle of the town and the noise. It's an idle place to stay if you want a relaxed holiday.
The lobe falls is also easily accessible on foot in max 30 min through the beautiful path by the shore of the sea.
It is well located away from the town so the taxi usually cost 1500 FCFA and above and i would also recommend to buy in advance the essentials i.e good stock of beer if you are a budget traveler.
The staff is quite helpful and will try their best to make your stay memorable.
The rooms are very moderate but the location and also the price compensates everything.
I fell in love with the place at the very moment when i got there.

The location is beautiful at the beginning of the nice long Tara Beach. It is possible to arrive in about 30 min walking on the beach at Ilomba restaurant and resort and in 45 min at the waterfalls "chutes de la lobe".
This hotel is isolated and nothing is available a part from what is served in the restaurant. The food is simple but not great and not at all cheap. The hotel is frequented by local tourists especially in the weekend and the beach animated by the children of the neighbourhood.
The staff can be either very nice either unpleasant depending on whom.

Great little hotel. Not 'nice' per say, but a good little sufficient beach place. Less expensive than all surrounding hotels. Lacks nothing. Door opens right onto beach. We got a room with 2 double beds (with mosquito nets) that opened right onto the beach for $40. There are nice beach chairs. The place has a really good restaurant too--a little pricey for volunteers but not bad for most people. Staff is really attentive and nice and most speak a little English.
The place is about 30 minutes walk by beach to the Lobe water falls. The only drawback in my opinion is that the place is a little outside town and it's hard (and maybe a bit sketchy) to catch a moto after dark--not a problem though if you do your in town stuff during the day and wanna stay put in the evening.

Because of the sporadic air-conditioning and hot water, the ant infestations, the threadbare towels, the broken toilet seats and overall run-down appearance of the accommodation – Tara Plage just isn’t going to be for everyone. If you want comfort, elegance, luxury; don’t come here.

But if you are prepared to rough it slightly and aren’t scared by giant red crabs scuttling under the dinner tables, you will find Tara Plage an infinitely lovely place to stay.

I had never been to Africa before and Kribi was louder, brighter and even more chaotic than I could have imagined. It is a holiday resort where rich Cameroonians escape for the weekend, but it is also a functioning West African town with a market, dusty streets and teenagers zooming around on motorbikes. Adventurous travellers in search of ‘authenticity’ will find it here but thankfully Tara Plage is located a little outside of the centre enabling it to seem like a haven of peace after the hubbub of the main street.

Tara Plage occupies its own stretch of beach; palm trees lining the shoreline with silky sands sloping down to the warm sea. Paths of sand lead from the rooms straight onto the beach, and when I arrived I have to say it did fit in with what my idea of paradise would be.

Restaurant
The restaurant and bar on a sea front terrace, perfect for catching the balmy evening breeze. Dinner orders are taken in the morning so they have time to go to the market and collect the ingredients fresh. Meat, fish and chicken cooked slowly to perfection and served with your choice of sauce and chips or rice. They are the friendly types here and whilst they don’t have a vast selection behind the bar, they are happy for you to buy your own drink in town and store in it in their fridges.

Rooms
The rooms are ensuite and very basic with a bed and a solitary rail to hang your clothes on. They don’t all have air conditioning, but make sure you bag one that does as it can get very humid here. As a base to sleep in, get changed in, to shelter from the heat - it served its purpose perfectly.

Overall
French is the national language so communication could sometimes be tricky but the staff are universally good natured (they do live on a beach after all) and willing to help. The vibe here is relaxed and families, couples and groups of travellers all slotted together here quite easily.

I didn’t want to leave. I would say that the Tara Plage is probably the best place to stay in Kribi, the hotels further towards town are all next to each other and don’t have the same sense of isolation that Tara Plage manages – due to the fact that it has its own little cove. I’d recommend Tara Plage as a good, solid budget option with excellent food and location.

I spent two nights here and, being the top of the rainy season, it was quite empty and a bit nostalgic to walk on the amazing beach with almost no one around.
The hotel is quite basic and comparing to other parts of Cameroon a bit overpriced for the quality. I mean with 15.000cfa (the price of the simplest room) you can get something better in general but you'd keep in mind that this is Kribi which is one of the touristic place of Cameroon.
Overall the stay was good, most of all the location literally on the beach and you could hear the waves while going to sleep. The staff is nice even if a bit too "formal". I prefer much more informality. Here it seems they normally liaise with local Cameroonian people with money...so everything is pretty formal. The price for the food (which is very good) is OK. Around 2.500cfa for the breakfast and 6.000-8.000 for dinner. Surely expansive comparing to street food but the quality is much higher.
Overall it was ok even if probably not exactly what I was expecting.

The location is beautiful at the beginning of the nice long Tara Beach. You can enjoy a nice beach walk from there to "la lobé"
This hotel is isolated and nothing is available a part from what is served in the poor restaurant. The food is simple but not great and not at all cheap. If you think, you are making a good deal with booking ahead with breakfeast included than you might think again because you only get one breakfast each room.
The staff dosent helps but take your money.

My teenage daughter and I stayed at this B&B in December 2011 just before Christmas. We were returning from an earlier visit when my entire family stayed - wife with our two children. I very much liked the remoteness of it, the fact that you have over 3km of pristine sandy coastline with calming and surreal waves from the Atlantic all day and night. The journey into town takes about 15 minutes and you'll need a car or ask for a taxi. Hotel staff are friendly and cook some very delicious meals if a little bit on the pricey side. All in all, a great experience for not much cost. You can eat fresh coconut cut from the tree everyday and locals pass by each day with artefacts that you can buy at very low cost.

Andy Dufresne in Shawshank Redemption had better digs than I did. But for $30USD I got what I paid for.
Room 101 was basically a prison cell. Dimly lit by a single 25 watt bulb, the only furniture was a single bed, a timy nightstand, and an intermittent floor fan. A cinderblock half wall separated the bathroom. Really just a seatless toilet with an overhead spigot as a shower. No soap or shampoo. But I was provided a threadbare towel. In fact prison cells are better, since natural light can usually enter the room from a window and the door is secure. Room 101 rotted door frame made my lock dubious at best in making me feel safe.
Other than that, the staff was as delightful. They were there for my every need. The meals were good. Breakfast was included- coffee and bread. Fruit was extra. Bar selection was wide. And the location, location, location was wonderful. I didn’t come to Tara Plage to spend time on the room. I wanted to listen to the waves against the shore.
Which was difficult to do because the staff watched tv in a t lounge area all day. No music or tv should be the rule, just the sound of nature. Maybe with the exception of a few hours around sunset, when the bar is active. Then Makossa would be good.
Would I return to Tara Plage? If alone, absolutely. I loved the place. With my wife? No. She would ask me what crime I had committed.

Went there in February 2015. Was recommended this place and indeed, it could be one of the best locations in Kribi, except this place is currently a building site - and they do not make any mention of it when you book your stay. From what I experienced, you won't yet be eating or enjoying your drink right on the beach but more in the background, next to a building under construction. Hope you don't mind the hammer...
Staff is helpfull but feels sometimes like they just do not really care. Rooms are correct but not (from what I've seen) in front of the sea.

I stayed at this hotel 3 nights ago and it is a building site. The old restaurant has been semi demolished and they are building a new one. Work started at 7am and finished late afternoon. You are expected to eat in front of the new construction whilst work continues with noise and dust. Unable to walk barefoot to the beach due to loose nails, screws and bits of wood. The new restaurant is being built in front of the rooms, blocking the sea view.
However the rooms were acceptable. Air conditioning worked and rooms were clean. Hot and cold running water.
Food was very good.
