NEW YORK
Our first trip here was last year at the end of June and we returned again this year at the same time. We loved our experience last year and it was just as great last year. We hike every day in the morning and in the afternoon we usually take a shorter hike, followed by kayaking on the amazing tranquil lake. The staff are so friendly and helpful. With regard to the food, it’s possible that we got lucky the days we were there. We found that our dinners in the main dining room were amazing. One night we had the prime filet, duck and coq au vin and it was all great. The following night we had the prime strip steak and coq au vin. The steaks both nights could not have been better. They were cooked perfectly and you didn’t even need a knife to cut them. They were as good as the best steaks I’ve ever eaten at any of the best steakhouses in NY. One night we had dinner at the Granary and although it was ok, it didn’t compare to the dining room. Breakfast in the dining room was incredible and lunches at the Granary were very good. The bottom line is that this resort offers great activities and meals in a very unique setting where you feel you’re in a slice of paradise with incredible views. We look forward to returning at the same every year.

Horrible service, unnecessary 1 hour wait to check in because concierge service is combined with check in/check out/ problems with the room. Staff is disingenuously cordial. Notified management in writing weeks in advance that I have asthma, and after making me wait 6 hours to check in the room was uninhabitable because the previous guests had made a fire in the fireplace, and apparently the flu wasn’t working because the room was filled with smoke. Food lousy. This was once my go to place for nature, hiking, lake swimming, personal restoration with the early Smily generation. Not the same anymore. The fifth generation is resting on its laurels, they don’t interact or care about their guests. It’s a different place .

My wife and I spent a night at Mohonk Mountain House this past weekend. It was really a fantastic escape. You are really out in the country, with no road or airplane noise. We had extremely cloudy weather (can't hold that against the place) and made the best of it. Beautiful building, with a lot of detail in very good shape. The room was nice - not too big, but big enough. It had a fireplace (for the appropriate seasons). Service was excellent. I thought the food was excellent - locally sourced (as much as possible) and well prepared and presented. My only complaint was that we had 7:45 dinner reservations, and the gym/indoor pool/spa shut down at 6 PM. It also opens at 8 AM (not enough time for workout before breakfast). We didn't realize that when we set our reservation times. Gym was nice otherwise. Great hiking trails and so peaceful and tranquil.

As a Californian, I just stumbled across this place thanks to a well-traveled friend on Facebook. After more than five years on my bucket list, we finally made it, and SO glad we did! It was the highlight of our New England/New York trip. Though certainly a splurge, the setting cannot be beat. Simply spectacular! The food, accommodations and activities were top-notch as well. Beautiful and so clean! Would highly recommend the Rock Scramble and The Lemon Squeeze if you've got an active family that's up for a crazy climbing adventure. Though it's hardly around the corner for our family, we'd go back in a New York Minute!!

Lovely place, but by no means worth the $1600+ we were charged a night. It is by no means a bad place, just over priced. The staff is friendly. Everyone we spoke to was very helpful and kind. House keeping was wonderful, and the rooms are very clean and charming. You maybe charged like you are staying in the Four Seasons, but the rooms are more b&b charming. The rooms that have a balcony are nice, with cute rocking chairs and amazing views. Do not expect large rooms, luxurious bathrooms, modern mattress, or a television. The carpets in the common areas/hallway need replacing, very stained and musty. The activities are fun, and the mountains are gorgeous. BUT— most activities are weather dependent. If you get multiple days of bad weather, there go the activities. But on a sunny day the options are endless. Very family friendly! Everyone in our group took part in something and had a good time. The hiking trails were absolutely the best part of this stay, but those are free to anyone. The hotel offers a convenient location to the trails, but this isn’t worth the nightly charge to me. The Indoor pool is nice if you do happen to get rain. There is an indoor game room, but it is only slightly larger then a closet and smells very musty. There was a broken arcade game and three other table games. The food service was fine and attentive. The food quality is “good conference/hotel” food at best… over seasoned, a bit predictable, and not an elegant or upscale dining experience. The reservation system is totally understandable in Covid times, but it does take some of the fun away/relaxed vacation vibe. There a few dining options on property, which is nice to have some options. The bbq spot is really cute, but weather dependent. So all in all, Yes, food and *some* activities are included in a nights stay, but Mohonk Mountain by no means adds up to $1600 a night. I think once a hotel charges a certain amount, as a customer, you just expect perfection. This is a beautiful, historic spot. The hospitality is wonderful. It would be up to each traveler if the food and activities justify the cost. When travel was much more limited, we booked this so we would have to deal with out of state quarantine rules. Now that we have our vaccine, and more travel options have opened back up, for me personally, this is just too much to charge for what you get.
