Detailed Reviews
This was our best camping spot of our whole Namibian trip. A feeling of isolation, a few camp spots spaciously spread out, clear night skies and beautiful sunsets over the desert horizon - all we need! Ablutions are simple with solar heated water and no electricity. We love "off-grid" camping and being away from the more commercial camping sites so this was perfect for us.
A short drive from the main road to the main lodge allows you to view some Oryx (Gemsbok). There are walks around the hills which we used to get in a bit of trail running in the early morning. The owners were kind enough to ask other campers if we could have the camp site closest to the ablutions as we were two couples travelling with 4 young children.
For a feeling of camping in the heart of nature, this spot is perfect.

Very quiet and isolated location accessed by a long drive from the main unpaved road, worth the effort. The rooms are basic but full-fill their purpose. They have designed a walk around the local hills that take about an hour and is well signposted and not challenging but gives a lovely overview of the surrounding area. A bar area with honesty book allows you to watch the sunset with a nice cold beer in hand. Dining is a group affair with all guest along with the owners sitting down at one table. We did feel a little uneasy as all other guest were German but we were made to fill welcome and included as the hosts mixed language so we were not left out. Food all home cooked using game from the farm and was very good.

We loved the camping in Namibia and this was our favorite campsite from the whole trip. The isolation, the 12km driveway arriving into a little Namibian jewel.
The campsites were about 3km from the lodge and were sitting out in the middle of the desert. Each separate campsite was sheltered by its own huge tree, throwing enough shadow during the midday sun. It felt like just you, the tree and the desert. Very simple but very powerful.
Also the D707 was a fanatic road through some of the most spectacular landscape we saw.

We booked 2 nights at the Little hunters rest campsite, which is located right next to the lodge. It was a really beautiful place in the middle of the nature.
Unfortunately, we couldn't stay for more than one night because there is practically no facility, no shop or fuel and we had not planned enough drinking water. The campsite is very simple, just a tree and a grill. No electricity or network. There is one common bathroom (very clean) and 2 outdoor sinks but only located at one campsite. If this one is already occupied and you park on another campsite, you need to walk a bit. I think 250N$ is a bit expensive compared to othere very well equipped campsites.
The Lodge sells practically nothing. I would recommand to go there for only one night because there is practically nothing to do in the surroundings.

A very pleasant nights stay at the charming chalets on this beautiful farm. We had a lovely walk into the hills around the farmhouse and then enjoyed sundowners quietly watching a breath taking sunset. Thorsten and Linn were gracious hosts and the farmstyle meal enjoyed around their dining room table was delicious. And when the lights were turned out the night sky lit up with a myriad stars that you can only see when so far away from cities and towns - a magical experience.

So maybe I should have started doing this review first to have put me in a better mood for the last one I did. However this is a desert lodge we spend two nights here one camping on our own the other in the lodge with the older couple owners, as the kids that usually run the place were on holidays and frankly it was a pleasure. They are not hot on massive luxuries and the rooms were too hot, but with a few small additional technology changes this place will become (I think) a must on anyone's list, there's no fancy 4x4 tours but you are close enough to go out for that, for an overnight stay it's good. Food, company, facilities are average and the open honesty bar idea is great. The rest is,,, great. Keep going guys and if you ever want to fit a solar plant for air/con or starlink Wi-Fi for everyone to run Jacuzzi and other Fab things, drop me a line and I will send me and the lads with a container full of upgrades willingly and come stay and set it all up.

I spent only one night there, but I would have stayed two.
Our chalet was very nice and well-finished.
We received fantastic hospitality by Linn and Thorsten; they are not just the owners of this small lodge but also people that really enjoy their job and spending time with guests. It was a pleasure to have dinner and breakfast talking with them and a nice German family.
Oryx fillet was delicious and pudding for dessert as well. Very good the egg salad for breakfast.
We enjoyed their Botanic Trail, a quite short walk among rocks and plants and we enjoyed the sunset from the nearby deck. The landscape around is amazing.
I saw one of the best night skyes ever seen in my life.

The Tiras area is stunning. Journey getting here from Luderitz once you pass Aus one of our trip highlights. Tip: do a quick side journey up the C13 then back to D707. The vibe/setting Namtib Desert Lodge compliments the environment beautifully. Top joint.
PS: Hey Thorsten if you are reading this. We ran into one of your mates in a Swakop pub who was a singer in a punk covers band. You never mentioned you had an annual musical get together!

My wife and I stayed for one night in this very welcoming place. The drive on the D707 is very picturesque and provides some foreshadowing to the beauty of the area. Our bungalow was basic but very comfortable. This place for us was all about the incredible hospitality of the hosts. They were a fountain of good conversation over the communal dinner and made us feel at home. The meals were excellent. There's a very nice spot on a hill for sundowners that provides panoramic views. Everything is very friendly and relaxed. It was a perfect place to break our drive and enjoy the hospitality and views.

We spent an afternoon and one night at this stunning desert property that gives the distinct feel of a B & B but with separate cottage style accommodation’s. We wished we had booked for two nights to truly appreciate the quaintness of the property and also completely take in the beauty and atmosphere of this unique property.
The lodge is operated by Lynn and Thorsten who are second generation to his parents who originally emigrated from Germany while taking on a huge risk on a much storied ranch.
Breakfast and dinner is a communal affair with everyone from family to guests seated at a long communal table while dinning family style on homemade food in a candle / lamp lit ambience. While this set up may not suit everyone, it is an excellent way to learn more of the lodge and ranch operations from Lynn and Thorsten and to meet up and get to know some of the other guests many of whom are interesting repeat visitors to the ranch and also of German descent.
After dinner a walk up to the lounge area under the clear pollution free sky will amaze even if Astronomy is not your thing – it is also a lovely quiet spot to enjoy a night cap at the end the day.
The lodge and cottages are carefully and thoughtfully decorated in an eclectic Namibian design that features a range of colorful decorations from antiques to interesting and befitting nick knacks. There are plenty of seating areas inside and outside the lodge and a weak internet signal is available in the main lodge for a reasonable fee. A short hike up the hillside and there is a lounging / honor bar which is very reasonably priced and a great spot to start a hike or just sit back with a book during the day and then at the end of the day a cocktail or two while watching the sun set.
The cottages are semi private with a lovely front porch, spacious rooms, and a solar hot water fed washroom separated from the bedroom by a quaint courtyard. There is no heat or A/C but for our stay it was not an issue.
While we did not see much Ranch action as the sheep herd had been culled in favor of wild game due to the drought and low market prices, Thorsten and his father are a wealth of knowledge and an interesting pair to learn about the challenges of operating a ranch in the desert as well as the challenges of fiscal restraints in continuing to be an eco-property powered in part by solar.
While there is no night life, this B & B / Boutique type property delivers what they promise and more in allowing guests to stay in a family run operational ranch, along with homemade meals in a true communal family setting all the while hosted by welcoming and interesting hosts.
We only wished we had taken an extra night to be able to sit back and enjoy a morning hike followed by a relaxing afternoon with a book enjoying the serenity of this delightful oasis.
Should we ever be back in this area of Namibia this would be a top choice – Thanks again to Thorsten & Lynn and all your wonderful staffs.
