Hotel's Favourite
I reserved two rooms on points and arrived from AKL at 630am with my family of 4. I knew we were very early and had expected we wouldn’t be able to check in.
We were greeted by Front desk manager Anna (sp?). She initially told us we could store our luggage and use the gym to change our clothes. After a few minutes m, she came back and said she was able to get two rooms for us to check into immediately. It was greatly appreciated. After that, check in was quick. My Diamond status was recognized and was offered free continental breakfast.
We were given rooms 109 and 111 which are connecting. The rooms were well appointed and very stylish. Everything was modern from climate control to all the outlets available (including wireless charging areas on nightstands). Don’t worry if you don’t have an adapter here!
The mattress is very comfortable, but I didn’t like the pillows. They made my neck hurt.
Bath products are Crabtree and Evelyn and the water pressure is great.
We did use room service one night and it was delivered within 30 minutes. The crispy Korean chicken was quite good. Breakfast in the restaurant is also good. $20 for continental and $30 for full. Standard options available. All the staff in the morning were friendly and welcoming.
The location is about 25-30 mins from AKL, and south of CBD. It’s a good spot to base out of if you are exploring area south of Auckland. There are McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Sushi, and convenience store all across the street (5-10 min walk). This is not a place to stay if you are looking to explore CBD or are looking for a lot retail and food within walking distance. But for us, it was just fine.
The entire property is new and there is a great modern style to it. All the staff were courteous and welcoming. I would stay here again and recommend it to others.

it felt like I had hit the trifecta straight away at DoubleTree By Hilton Karaka. check-in with Caitlin was a breeze, she didn’t hesitate seeking out my Hilton Honors account information & efficiently me booked into a King Quest Room which included breakfast. I was asked if I needed any assistance to collect my belongings (which I kindly turned down) upon returning to the foyer / reception area I was given a scrummy warm cookie, such a nice unexpected touch. the guest room was impeccably appointed (albeit no bath tub) but a very generously sized shower with a large drencher above. the bed & multiple pillows was super comfortable, it was a warm room so i turned the air-con on which wasn't noisy in the slightest. the outdoor heated (27 degrees) pool was fabulous, the bar over the weekend is open to enjoy a beverage poolside, fantastic changing room facilities & a well appointed gym (machines, free weights etc) available for use. the breakfast (NZD$25) was outstanding, a great selection of foods available including freshly made omelettes on request, they also had a seperate GF area. i didn't get the opportunity to try the dinner service however did order room service the raw fish was outstanding.

We arrived in Auckland from Queenstown, NZ on a Saturday and did not have a hotel reservation. We sat at the airport for over an hour looking for a hotel. It seems that Auckland was very busy that weekend. We finally found Doubletree by Hilton Karaka. We had no idea where Karaka was but it ended up being a great choice, 15 miles south of the airport, 22 miles south of Auckland. The hotel is in a more rural area associated with thoroughbred horse studs, dairy farming and sheep farming and thoroughbred yearling sales. The hotel is just off of SH1 so a direct route to/from Auckland and the airport. We arrived late afternoon. This is a beautiful, fairly new and expensive hotel with all of the modern amenities. Our room was large with a king size bed, dresser, small table, small fridge and a small bench that could double as a child's bed. It had a built in phone charger in the nightstands and all necessary modern electronic connections. The bathroom had a very large shower and all amenities (it was a handicap room on the ground floor). The hotel has a pool, gym, meeting space, a bar and a pricey restaurant, but there was a McD's across the street for something quick and less expensive. Their is a pool and the grounds are lovely. We enjoyed our stay in this quiet area south of Auckland.

My family opted for this new hotel as a staycation alternative to the Cordis in the city that we usually book. However we decided to cut our stay short a night during this Anzac weekend since the hotel wasn’t what we expected for a warm relaxing get away. For a heated pool, it was too cold for us to swim in and missed indoor outdoor flow to the pool with it being very separate and gated away in a drafty area which lacked ambiance and greenery. The shower only trickled in the room, we were told on arrival that the restaurant was fully booked to outside guests so couldn’t even enjoy a family evening meal together. There was an awful smell throughout the corridors on the 2nd floor, the main light stopped working and there was no sky tv in the room. I should have gone with my initial impressions when the staff were rude over the phone and didn’t get back to me with my enquiry, which meant I booked online and not over the phone. When we spoke with hotel management about our disappointments, they didn’t really seem to care about sending us away with a good impression, merely one that is good enough but nothing to write home about. Let’s see if they can get things right in time once they are through the teething problems but I won’t be back to see if that happens as for the price of this hotel, we would rather go back to our usual favourites.

We live nearby so we went to have dinner - arrived early for a drink or two but what a disappointment... We waited 15min for a menu, finally got a broken one, could not taste any alcohol in our cocktails, but the worst part is the health and safety: the staff there don't wear mask properly and for some of them they don't wear mask at all.
I wanted to talk to the manager and see if they have any explanation, i was told he will come shortly, and 10 min later was told he went home... It was 7pm, the restaurant was full but the manager is gone home..?
Well, we did the same, we left without having dinner because we felt this place is not safe at all.

The physical facilities at this hotel are great. The rooms are very comfortable and well appointed. And very quiet in spite of being right beside the motorway.
However, other than the fabulous Kev at the door, the rest of the service is not good enough for this hotel. We were a small group (6 adults and 1 child) and ate at the restaurant twice. The first time we were seated at a table far too large for our group, and in an exposed walkway rather than the restaurant. We could not hear each other talk as a result and often had to get up and walk over to the other side of the table to have a conversation. We asked to be moved and were told there were no other tables, when we could clearly see tables that were big enough and remained vacant for the duration of our dinner. Our order was only taken after we flagged down a server. And there appeared to be no coordination servers as when our meals were bought out we were asked who had ordered what. The food itself was excellent, as were the cocktails.
At breakfast the next day we were again told there were no tables that could accommodate us. We had to point out the table set for six that could easily accommodate a child as well. We were also not offered espresso coffee and this did not appear to be available. When we had almost finished breakfast one of the servers overheard us lamenting about the lack of coffee and mentioned we could order this. Like the breakfast food, the coffee was excellent when we received it.
I would recommend eating off site until the service has been addressed.

This hotel is amazing and brand new. The queen queen room was very large with smart space usage to include table and 2 chairs, cubby for shoes, closet, water kettle, mini refrigerator, plenty of plugs and charging options…and the shower and bathroom are FABULOUS! The location is beautiful. The rooms were very quiet. The hotel restaurant was good (be sure to make reservations in advance). The pool was great and the workout building was wonderful too. I definitely recommend this property!

+1
We stayed one night on the ground floor for a "staycation". The hotel has only recently opened and is very fresh, lovely calming decor, rooms well appointed and although not particularly large, they are roomy enough for two. Check-in was very quick and efficient and staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel is situated on nicely landscaped grounds and there is plenty of free parking. Conveniently located 20 km's from the airport and 34 km's from the CBD, the vibe is quiet and relaxed. The pool is nicely heated and has pleasant surroundings. Breakfast the next morning was disappointing with limited selections. At the egg station my wife requested the good ol kiwi staple favourite of eggs benedict only to be told that wasn't available! Also when asked if they had tomato sauce we were told it was on order, we didn't realise there was a shortage on ketchup, the other option was tabasco! In general our stay was really enjoyable only to be slightly disappointed with the restaurant, maybe it's still early days and there needs to be a bedding down period.

Beautiful new hotel, lovely room however is let done by not having a mini bar and an extremely limited room service menu. Traveling for business by myself, I prefer to eat in my room so I can relax but they don't offer a lot of options and definitely no desserts. Won't even accommodate a drink not listed on the room service menu when there is a bar down stairs. Seem to get told no a lot at this hotel.

Hotel has a nice location right outside Auckland, only 25min drive to downtown. Amenities like Pool is great for kids and the family, hotel staff is friendly in general.
3 improvement points I have raised to the hotel:
1. This is the first Hilton Hotel I have visited where they differentiate between intercontinental breakfast and full breakfast. Full breakfast has to be paid extra 15NZD, even though you are silver, gold or diamond member. PS: This was not the case at the two other Double Tree Hilton Hotels me and the family stayed in Christchurch and Wellington.
2. Coffee like Cappuccino costs 6NZD extra, even though you are silver, gold or diamond member, why? That's the wrong end to improve the business case for the hotel the way I see it. PS: This was free of charge at the two other Double Tree Hilton Hotels me and the family stayed in Christchurch and Wellington.
3. Personal should not offer kids a hot chocolate for breakfast and then present the bill (6NZD) to the parents afterwards. It's like offering children a lollipop and then charge you for it. This is inappropriate.
I hope the Hotel will improve on this as we would like to come again (with the above being rectified)
