Detailed Reviews
This was a wonderful stay! My wife and I were attending my 40th CCS class reunion and stayed at the inn with several other classmates. I was completely satisfied with my stay. The room was large enough for comfort and had the ammenities that you would expect in an upscale hotel at moderate prices, flat screen HDTV, fridge, microwave and a tub/shower in the bath. The room had two queen beds that were very comfortable. The staff was great. No more trips back and forth from Watertown or Calcium to Carthage for events. Thank our for a great stay and locating in Carthage.

Apparently a family just purchased this place and it's obvious that they did some major remodeling. Everything looks new and the place was very clean. The only weird thing is that the mattresses squeak very loudly if you so much as turn while in your sleep. Regardless, we were very impressed and would definitely stay here again if we're ever in the area.

We chose this place because it allows dogs and it was close enough to where we were. Upon arriving the place had a smell of stale cigarettes and bleach, an upgrade from the mothball smell of another review. We checked in, everything seemed normal. Upon further inspection if the towels could talk, they would tell a story. The dried vomit outside of our room was a nice touch to add to the experience. The bed, and the pillows had live bed bugs. We saved one in a piece of toilet paper to show the property. We packed our belongings and checked out. I stopped at the front desk, informed them of our room number, we were leaving, and why. I showed the gentleman the live bed bug we found. His reaction wasn't the best, and no refund was offered. Booking.com tried to get us a refund, but the property refused to return their call. The property refused to communicate with me as well. Below is a picture of the live bed bug we presented the property and one I found on me when I returned home, which I obviously killed, after driving 5 hours in the pouring rain, at night through the Adirondack Park.

I booked a room in advance and cancelled well within the cancellation period. The motel still charged for the room. I contacted the owner who acknowledged that I had cancelled in time for a refund but refused to refund the charge saying that I had to go to Booking.com for a refund. I did not book through Booking.com as I always book directly by phone. The owner insisted I had used the sit, but could not provide evidence. Despite 4 calls the owner refused to refund the cost of the room.

Nick we appreciate your feedback however we also take the life safety of our guests very seriously. We had received a few calls from other guests regarding smoke coming from your room. We had tried to call you several times via the in-room phone but were unable to reach you. We then approached your door, noticed the smoke and knocked several times without any answer. Upon entering the room I saw your leg on the bed and attempted to call out to you to which I received no response. At this point I was practically screaming; you then awoke startled to say the least and began screaming at me, I informed you of why we had entered your room and ensured you were ok. After which we also noticed cigarette ashes and butts within the bed and along the nightstand, I reminded you of our hotel policies of not smoking for the safety and security of all our guests including yourself. You obliged by informing me to charge it on your card. So you see sir, we are not what you call "perverts" we were just concerned for your well being.

The hotel manager told me that they are in ADA compliance, but they are not. I am not able to attach the ADA.gov website or quote the law but please visit the website to confirm.
The manager (who was the only person I spoke with at the hotel) informed me there was a king room available (which I preferred) but as soon as I mentioned a service dog he stated the only room he could offer was a double queen that was “pet friendly”. My attempt at trying to educate him that a service dog is not a “pet” went in vain due to the fact he would not listen, but continually spoke over me and kept referencing their “policy” which was that we would be restricted to a “pet” room. Per ADA law, guests with disabilities MUST be provided the same opportunity to reserve ANY AVAILABLE ROOM AND MAY NOT BE RESTRICTED TO “PET-FRIENDLY” ROOMS. Clearly a violation of ADA law and poor customer service. I am especially disappointed as the hotel claims to be “military friendly” and I am a disabled veteran. I obtained my service dog through Southeastern Guide Dogs which is why I am so aware of the laws surrounding this issue.

Dear sir; this is now the second time we are responding to this review as you removed your previous review so our response would be deleted as well. I'm sure you are re-reviewing the property as we had positive reviews come in after your review. As I clearly stated in our previous response to you that if you look at all of our online websites and places to book that we do not offer any King room type rooms. This hotel is made up of ONLY two queen bed rooms all non-smoking. We do however have a 2 long term rooms for guests looking at staying for longer than 2-3 weeks at a time. We are not in violation of any laws as we offered you a room and gave you every opportunity to book, you choose to not book and call us liars as we would not give you a King room that we do not even have available. Also we mentioned in our previous response that we have had many service animals stay at the property most of whom were traveling with military vets. I find it quite peculiar that you now mention you are a disabled veteran when initially you had mentioned you were a doctor... in any case a room was offered to you even after you failed to answer either of our questions; Is this animal needed because of a disability? What work or tasks has the animal been trained to do? I take it very personally that you are choosing to attack our family owned and operated hotel in such a manner when all we have ever done is go above and beyond for all of our military veterans and guests alike. I would also like to mention that after you kept berating my staff and myself over the phone and began to threaten us with a phone call from an attorney I still asked you kindly if you would like to book a room or not/ with no response from you other than more screaming and name calling I hung up the phone. (Just because we run our own business does not mean you can treat us like non-humans) We also posted a segment from the ADA website on our previous review to show we were in compliance. We could almost construe this as slander against our hotel since you are making false claims but for now I hope everyone reads our response.

We love staying at the Pleasant Night Inn. I, and many of my other out-of-town family members stayed there for several days for a memorial service for my father. Our family reunion in Carthage every year also makes it necessary to reserve many rooms for that long weekend in July. The owners have always been accommodating to our needs and frequent comings and goings. Every year I notice newer and updated features to the hotel. Pleasant Night Inn is clean, comfortable, and the owners are lovely. I think it's great that they run the establishment and live there as well. They can easily check and make sure all is "ship shape" for their guests. Can't wait to see them again next July.

I stayed at this hotel in April 2016. It is not "Pleasant" . My main concern is that the front entry doors are not locked at night. The owners live on premises so are sleeping at night and are not watching the premises from the front desk. Because I was not safe. It is dangerous. When I questioned the owner, he just laughed at me. This is the only hotel where I have stayed where the security at the front door or desk does not exist.

Good Afternoon Jim, I do recall our conversation and apologize if you believe I was laughing at you. I believe we spoke late in the evening around 2 or 3 a.m. in the lobby of the hotel as I came from the managers quarters after seeing you on the video camera system to see if you needed assistance. You questioned the integrity of your safety in relations to the full glass lobby doors not having a key card reader which you believed should auto lock upon closing. I advised you that we take the safety and security of our guests very seriously and commented that we have never had any issues with safety or security of guests since taking over the property back in 2013. I also discussed with you the implications of such a system on our handicap guests which you were not pleased to hear. I also stated that your belief of 'having an extra 5 seconds' to know if someone broke into the lobby doors is quite flawed. I did not appreciate when you laughed as I explained that my family also stays in the hotel which includes my 2 1/2 year old daughter and 4 month old son whose safety I take very seriously. I did however appreciate the long conversation about safety in America and how it relates to travel, however I hope you understand that not everywhere you go is an unsafe area and the people within those communities do not live in fear of someone just walking into their establishment with the intent to do harm. I also pointed out that the Police station is within a minute walk and located right behind the hotel in which you were still adamant that the security was lacking. After having our discussion I decided to contact your group leader to ensure that we provided nothing less than safe clean and comfortable stay to which they apologized and informed me that each other attendee not only felt safe but enjoyed a comfortable stay.

We stayed 5 nights while visiting family members stationed at Fort Drum. The room was clean and so was the bathroom. We met Keni, the owner/manger, his wife and 6 weeks daughter. They and the staff were very pleasant, I guess the name of the hotel fits perfect.
We might go up there for another visit next April, and if we do, we will stay at the Pleasant Night Inn again.
